Diner Reviews
  • "First, I must laud the food. The selections were atypical and well-prepared. They appeared to bring the food out frequently in small platters, which meant everything was fresh. The oysters were outstanding, as were the mussels. The big hits at our table were the omelets and the Crème Brule French Toast! The servers were attentive. The staff handled the large crowd with ease. We were worried initially about the long line for the small food station area but that dissipated quickly. We would do this again!"

  • "I decided to book a table for Easter dinner at Scott's, since Scott's always feels like somewhere special. We had a reservation, but still had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Once seated, it was awhile before anyone came to give us water and menus. Later, we had to ask for the wine list, since we hadn't been given one. The waiter was nice and meant well, but seemed a little unpolished. He dripped the wine (not just a tiny bit) while pouring it, and didn't wipe it up, so I had to wipe it with my napkin once he left. But the food was great. I had scallops and a filet, and both were cooked perfectly. My only comment is that putting the filet on a huge pile of mashed potatoes makes it a little difficult to deal with. "

  • "HAD Easter dinner with my husband It was a little loud as there was large family groups all around us. We should have had a table in a quieter location. "

  • "We are from the Bay Area and know Scotts in San Jose and Palo Alto - happy to find this Scotts to take parents to a nice lunch the day before Easter - no crowds -- and have a great brunch. The weekend brunch menu is great and the food fantastic. There is dining outside which was great for a breezy day on the river. The food and service hit the mark. Delicious crab louie. Lots of crab and fresh crisp veggies. My parents loved it -- joined the senior club that day and got 20% off their meal. The server took care of everything. They definitely treated us like "family". Its nice to find a great place, easy parking, good food and service -- with the option to eat outside."

  • "We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation so told them we'd go to the bar. After 15 minutes in the bar no one had served us, though they were serving later arrivals. The hostess came to seat us and said the bar held off on us because they knew our table was pending. After being seated we got water and bread immediately, but it took another 5 minutes for our server and then 10 more minutes for us to get our cocktails - 30 minutes had elapsed. Of all the food ordered, the best seemed to be the fresh seafood (swordfish, shrimp, crab) while the burger and fish/chips were average. The golf cart that takes people to and from the parking lot was great. Overall we had a good evening but it's not at the top of our places to go."

  • "I had made reservations through Open table for a Friday evening to go out for Sea food as it was Good Friday, and there were no disappointments with the booking. Our hostess was nice and the service was on time with no long periods between appetizers, drinks and main meals. Overall the establishment was very professional and I enjoyed a gorgeous view from my table. "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 27th anniversary. She's from Los Angeles and I'm from Miami. We loved the jazzy, pleasant atmosphere at Scott's Seafood on the River. Often, Sacramento restaurant's are all about the food and there's nothing distinctive or extra special about spending a little money to dine out. My wife and I think Scott's Seafood on the River would be an excellent dinner venue to meet with business associates to discuss the "big deal". Our waiter, Miguel, was very friendly and not boring like at some robotic type restaurants. My wife and I had a great time. "

  • "The atmosphere is lovely, the setting is beautiful and service was great. The food was only ok though. The prawn cocktail was only partially peeled on 3 of the 5 prawns. Not the entire shell left on, just chunks of it to crunch into. Very unappetizing. You expect shell at the tail end, but not chunks of it elsewhere on the prawn. Not impressed with course #1. The lobster was very good, but the filet mignon was only ok. It was dry with little flavor (which is strange for a medium rare steak). The plate was visually appealing although I found the rest of the dinner on the plate, the wild rice pilaf, julienned carrots and green beans to be extremely bland and tasteless. "

  • "Both the special--Barramundi with orzo and the swordfish with coconut shrimp had great flavors all the way thru. Was a bit concerned over the noisy friday night bar but the dining room was just fine-able to have our own conversation and not bothered by others. Beautiful sunset view over the river."

  • "The food here was so bland it reminded me of the food I was served in the hospital after having my babies. The only highlight was the service."

  • "We had a quiet birthday lunch for 2 on the patio. It was cold outside but they had a heating lamp. Inside was nice also but it was loud and we wanted a more peaceful space. We enjoyed the food. The Caesar Salad was a little small but the prawns were excellent. Best prawns I ever had. Both salads were great for us, bread was great and coffee was excellent. We would return again. Service was beyond excellent."

  • "My wife and I come here twice a year from Stockton for special occasion dinner, (anniversary, birthday). In the past, the experience has been really good. This time, however, my wifes Herb Crusted Chicken Breast was very dry, no moisture at all. My Filet and Shrimp was flavorful, however, for a filet, there was a portion of the meat that was uneatable (either very tough fat or grissle, not usually found on a filet). We haven't decided whether to not come back, or if we do, not to order these two particular entrees."

  • "My family really likes Scott's on the River and we go there occasionally for dinner because we really enjoy the food and great service. Ttwo of us strayed from our normal menu choices (Ahi two ways, sole) for the grilled tuna special and we were not disappointed. I really like the spicy crab bisque while my kids (9 and 5) like the clam chowder. Not too many menu choices to make it confusing but plenty for good variety. The view of the grounds and the river are nice a well."

  • "Our Server Debbie was delightful as she described the culinary artwork of the resident Chef. Presentation was impeccable in that the portions relatively small size was more than compensated with an absolutely delectible flavor."

  • "The food was as good as usual. I have been there several times. The service was average at best. It was my son's birthday but no-one regonized it. Disappointed."

  • "We sat outside at sunset time overlooking the river and boats. It was fantastic! The noise on the inside was a little loud, but not unusual. The restaurant did not smell fishy like some seafood restaurants are. We loved the ambiance and the service was terrific. We substituted some things and the chef was okay with it. I highly recommend this hidden gem, unless you've heard of Scott's before or as a word of mouth."

  • "It was my 2 year anniversary and we went out for dinner. The outside seating was very amazing and romantic. It even has the option to go walking by the river and a fire pit nearby. The food was great. It did take a while to receive our food but overall great experience."

  • "Scotts Seafood at the River, Sacramento, is our favorite "special" dining spot in almost every way--as a couple or with extended family members of all ages and/or friends along. We, especially, cannot resist the Macadamia-Encrusted Halibut entrée each and every time we're there for dinner. Wine choices and mixed drinks are equally fine. Thanks!"

  • "They accomadated to my date's picky steak request (he wanted a peppercorn with whiskey dipping sauce like the cut in Vegas). It was not on the menu but they were able to make it as he wished and he loved it! They also gave him a bottle of wine and desert since it was his birthday. The waitress was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was a romantic setting with the river near the back. There was also a bon fire bit outside where you can sit and enjoy the outdoors I would definitely recommend. Especially the skirt steak, calamari ans clam chowder! Yumm!!"

  • "Gray skies somehow added a subdued, yet warm environment to our lunch time dining experience. Anniversary #48 was spent in just the way we had expected. Special quisine with delightful care and service. I thoroughly enjoyed my Halibut with Macadamia nut encrusted and rice with perfect french green beans and carrots. Coffee and flam added to the mix the fine dining . Topped off our overall experience with a bottle of sparkling wine to take with us. Will no doubt make it a future "instant replay"."

  • "I booked this restaurant for a special occasion valentines day date with my lady. When we were seated, the first thing I noticed was that no matter where you were in the restaurant, the view was so-so.... not as nice as it seems when advertised. The small portion of the river you can see from some windows was quite a ways away from the actual restaurant, which is located downstairs within a hotel. Also, the seat we were reserved and given was next to the back exit door of the restaurant. My girlfriend was positioned partially in front of one of the doors (double doors) and I was seated between a window and the door (in other words, I had a view of a restaurant wall. Food was decent though."

  • "This is consistently one of my favorite restaurants. Although the two Sacramento locations (Folsom and Sacramento on the River) are owned by different people, you always know you'll be receiving great service coupled with fantastic food. This time was a last minute "getaway" at the Westin on the Sacramento River. I LOVE that they have a great restaurant attached to the hotel so you can simply go down, enjoy a before dinner drink (perfect lemon drops!), have a fabulous meal (the lobster / mignon was delicious and cooked to perfection) with a great bottle of wine and ... walk back to your room! Scott's is always one of our first choices for special occasions and celebrations or when we want to impress out of town guests! Love it!"

  • "My wife and I went to Scott's to celebrate the 11 year anniversary of our first date which was at Scott's at Loehman's Plaza. Unfortunately that Scott's closed down a couple of years ago and we have been celebrating at Scott's on the River since then. We also go to Scott's 2 or 3 other times during the years. Westin recently took over the hotel part of the building and there were a lot of kids at Scott's and it was EXTREMELY noisy. This was at 8pm on Saturday evening and all these kids made for a much less than romantic dinner. I would suggest going elsewhere for a romantic evening on the town. Our server Caitlin was fantastic as was the food. It is good to see that that part of the evening hasn't changed a bit."

  • "I got the special of the day which was grilled mahi mahi. The fish was grilled to perfection. It actually melts in your mouth. I remember making the comment that I felt guilty chewing. Great flavor also. Phenomenal wine selection as well, had a glass of the Stag's Leap chardonnay which paired perfectly with my meal. Our server Caitlyn was awesome as well. Very friendly and personable on top of being an excellent server. The location, being right on the river, made it a very romantic for our first date. We actually took a walk along the river after dinner. Beautiful. All around excellent experience, I will be back."

  • "We were sat quickly once we arrived, but it took a good bit of time (10-15) before our server came by. About the time we were getting ready to walkout she showed up. We placed our entire order at once figuring the service would continue to be poor. Our server made more of an effort to server other tables and we were basically left alone. We had bread and an appetizer on our table before water and fountain drinks. When the food arrived I had ordered a steak which was fine except for a desperate need of salt. My spouse on the other hand had a plate of inedible food devoid of any seasoning. Luckily I was not too hungry so she was able to eat from my plate. Server never checked on us even though she was very attentive to others."

  • "We stayed at the Westin, adjoining Scott's, so it was great not to have to get in the car again to have a good dining experience. Highlight was the ahi poke appetizer. Had a bit of trouble tracking down a glass of water, but after that, service was really good and fish entree presentations tasty. But we also ate there for breakfast and the must try is the eggs benedict with crab cakes instead of the Canadian bacon and English muffin."

  • "the problem here is like all restaurants with scenic views the food and noise level and temperature take a back seat to the views. the restaurant was loud, cold, crowded (since it is beneath a hotel) and the food (while utterly excellent and expertly prepared) was served cold because there are too many patrons to manage. we were so hungry we ate it. the food was great but we cannot go back for all the other reasons. i know what they are capable of cause i used to go to the scotts at lowmans plaza which had no views but the food ambience and serivce was impecacble (sadly they closed it because it had a small floor plan) too bad for sacramento-ites"

  • "We were exciting about celebrating as a family during our stay at the Westin (for a stay-cation). Our reservation was for 7:45pm however we weren't seated until 8:10pm. The child's entrée came with our salad, however our main courses didn't come for an entire hour later. While we were eating our main course we jokingly said we should order our dessert (a scoop of ice cream for our daughter) since the main course took so long. We did go ahead and place the dessert order during main course and unfortunately it did take 30 minutes for a scoop of ice cream. We tried again the next day for breakfast and while our meals came in a timely manner, our cups of coffee didn't arrive until the meals did!"

  • "Disappointed in the food at Scott's. The only food worth it was the bread and butter! The crab louie salad was a joke - iceberg lettuce and tiny shreds of crab. The tilapia was okay, but given the whole experience, I would not go there again."
