A word from Scopa Neighbourhood Italian
Scopa is a lively Italian-inspired neighbourhood restaurant located in the heart of the Tuxedo Park Community in Calgary. Community is at our core and we work hard to create an atmosphere where our guests are received as if going somewhere familiar, just as you would find in small town eateries all over Italy.

Chef Sheldon Guindon seeks out seasonally fresh, local ingredients and allows them to shine in boldly-flavored contemporary Italian preparations with an emphasis on simplicity. We match our culinary offerings with a hand-selected wine list, served by knowledgeable, friendly, and genuine food and wine enthusiasts.

Really, we just love to eat and drink fine things and share them with our friends.

Normally you have to go downtown to find great restaurants but Scopa is a bit different. High quality, delicious meals in a laid back, casual environment. We've been for lunch and dinner and love it. Will be back again for sure - maybe in a week or two!

Upon arrival, even though the restaurant was very busy, we were greeted and seated promptly to our reserved table. Ambience was warm and welcoming. Our server was helpful with the beverage and menu selections. Perfect spot for that special occasion. However, because it is so popular, it is rather noisy .... especially for the senior group.

The bottle of wine we chose was amazing. Our server suggested a few and we sampled before deciding. The bruschetta was as good as we remembered last time. I had the Risotto with prosciutto, peas and grana padano and it was very good and enjoyed it thoroughly. My husband chose the lamb and unfortunately did not enjoy it . It was overcooked. We will be back but perhaps not for the lamb. Our server was very friendly and professional however she did put the cutlery on the wrong side of the place-mat when presenting our mains.

We arrived at 6:00 on Sunday evening, there was music playing but not so loud we couldn't talk. The service was attentive, we didn't wait for water or wine service. Nice selection of decent wines at reasonable prices. We started with the green salad which was tangy & tasty. Mom had the Arctic Char; she cleaned her plate & pronounced it delicious. My husband had the veal scallops which were a bit bland, served over noodles which were strong on garlic. I had the fettucine with scallops & prawns, it was very, very good. We were all too full for dessert. We enjoyed dinner, our wine, the service & the atmosphere. Will definitely go there again.

I have been to Scopa twice and had very good food both times. Fresh ingredients, flavourful and interesting plates and really good service. Semi-Casual vibe inside. It's a little expensive, but on par with the rest of the ridiculous restaurant prices in Calgary. The quality of the food makes it worth the splurge. I will definitely be back!

Our table was ready; the waiter was attentive; the evening showed great promise and potential. Yet it became an "Only Average" evening. Main reason - Our Waiter lost interest in our table of 8. Drink orders were slow to take and even slower to deliver. Food orders were quick and efficient, but arrived cold and not to our preferences (especially the dairy allergy caution & rare steak request)! What was so difficult to understand about - No Cheese, No Milk, No Butter; please??? As for the steak, rare does not mean pink and perky; it means red and juicy.

We were looking forward to visit Scopa as sister restaurant to Bonterra. We find it more lively and more casual here. Very good ambiance, not to loud, we could hear each other well. Service was quick and very friendly, I found it too quick for our taste, at times intrusive. Food squash soup was very good and I enjoyed lasagna. Everyone at the table was complementary about their dishes.

It's nice to see Scopa in our neighbourhood! Great breads, tantalizing mains and wonderful dessert offerings. The only downside was service which was recognizably slow, even in a fun group with lots to talk about. Drinks took 20 minutes and it got worse from there. We spent most of the evening waiting...and waiting...to hear "should be up soon" and then waiting more. I'm not sure if it was the server or the whole restaurant but it's a shame because when you dine in your neighbourhood it is because you don't want to take the time to venture elsewhere...so if it takes longer than going somewhere else - that kind of defeats the purpose!

This also goes for Sam, another waiter who had served us on previous occasion. Tonight we met Alycia, the manager who made her rounds to the tables and further looked after our needs. Thank You to the staff and management. Great food each time we have been here!!

Don't get me wrong the food was good but it was so noisy I don't think I would go back as we could barely hear each other. It took a while to get service but once we did our waiter was great! Our impression was they are going for that "foody" gimmick instead of good authentic Italian cooking maybe that is why we miss Boccavino so much, we always knew what we were getting. We had the calamari, risotto balls and bruschetta to start, the mains were arctic char, ravioli and spaghetti and the Manzo (beef). What stood out were the sauces they were wonderful, what didn't stand out was the calamari (gluten free is the only way they make it) it was bland.

We randomly selected scopa from a list of new restaurants when we were looking for a different Italian place to try (having gone to Il Sogno quite a few times recently). The exterior definitely isn't too welcoming (it's a fairly stark boxy, concrete building with few windows and chain-link around the patio) but as soon as you walked through the big red door, the ambiance is great. The selection was very broad but all the items we ordered were delicious and well made. The quality and selection were in keeping with a very high end restaurant (as was the wine list), but the environment was relaxed and comfortable and prices were reasonable. Definitely plan to return.

Hi. We were last to Scopa on October 8th, and it was our third visit. The food and the service has been really good on all occasions. Our server on Oct 8th was exceptional with suggestions, wine sharing following your tasting PK earlier in the day, and promotion of an upcoming event. We were seated at the tables for two along the bench on the south wall. The server (sorry I don't recall her name) was a tall blonde woman originally from Edmonton. Sorry, that may or may not identify her but I hope the feedback gets to her manager and herself. She's a pro in a really pleasant fashion. My only minor grievance for that night particularly, is the proximity of the two tops on the long wall. They are WAY too close. The server, as slender as she is, has to be careful when turning and for the patrons it's uncomfortable to hear every word the table beside you speaks. Picking up on a conversation is one thing but having to battle for air space with your own dining partner is bad. Besides, if anyone on that wall wanted to taste their neighbours food it's within reach. Not good. There seems to be space to slide them apart even another 12 inches which would help with privacy while maintaining a cozy atmosphere and getting the maximum seats into the space. I get that it's a balance but next time we are there for two, I will hope for a high top behind the 'lounge' wall for a little separation. Otherwise, we really enjoy all of the staff we've encountered since the new opening (having been former Boccavino customers), the fare is well prepared, and the wine list is very well designed. Cheers!

Two of us went for dinner Sunday Oct 5. Semi casual kind of place, very nice/new decor. Ordered a glass of Chianti to share... We started with the chili shrimp, which looked like a magazine cover, and tasted incredible. She had the steelhead trout (tastes like salmon, since they eat krill as well), I had the rotisserie beef (not wow, but very good) ... and we shared the weekly special risotto (red beets, with nuts and crusted with pecorrino cheese). This was WOW. When you pierced the light cheese crust and scooped out a spoonful, the trapped aromas crept out and ... yeah, yum. We finished with the featured desert (don't recall what exactly, berry puree, moist cake, small plop of gelato... was yum). Portions were smaller but good

Discovered Scopa the week before and loved it. Went there this weekend to celebrate a family birthday. Unfortunately, it was disappointing overall. Two of us had the spaghetti and it was delicious just like last week. One person had the pollo and found it to be just a huge serving of less than flavorful chicken, with pesto smothered potatoes. One person had the lamb pasta and we all found it to be just a big mass of pasta smothered in pesto. It actually took away from the bits of lamb that were tender and flavorful. However, service was good; friendly and prompt. Despite being disappointing, we will probably try Scopa again based on the first outing, and hopefully it will be better.
