A word from Scopa Neighbourhood Italian
Scopa is a lively Italian-inspired neighbourhood restaurant located in the heart of the Tuxedo Park Community in Calgary. Community is at our core and we work hard to create an atmosphere where our guests are received as if going somewhere familiar, just as you would find in small town eateries all over Italy.

Chef Sheldon Guindon seeks out seasonally fresh, local ingredients and allows them to shine in boldly-flavored contemporary Italian preparations with an emphasis on simplicity. We match our culinary offerings with a hand-selected wine list, served by knowledgeable, friendly, and genuine food and wine enthusiasts.

Really, we just love to eat and drink fine things and share them with our friends.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was excellent, however, one of the meals was very heavy on the onions without having listed them in the meal ingredients. The service was exceptional and I have never had a more personable, friendly, and supportive waiter. He answered all of our questions, was attentive without being annoying and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable at our table."

  • "Thought the food was decent but have had better Italian for the price. Our group of 3 all had the specials (1 pasta, 2 risotto) so maybe regular menu items would have been better. We may try it again as it's conveniently located for us. It wasn't bad, just not overly memorable."

  • "We have been coming to this place since it was Tino's 30 Years ago, I loved that even though the place has been sold a few times, they always kept the Authentic Italian taste. That is now gone, unfortunately you will see that a lot of Italians will give it a try like we did but will not return. The food is very canadianized too modern, the menu change was to much too quick. We felt like we were at a restaurant chain right away. Loved the renos has that look if a restaurant in New York City. With that being said, I'm a Busy Real Estate Agent with my office on 4 St and 24th NW, always brought my clients for lunch there, now we'll have to to D'aguidos down the street...Sorry I'm very honest about my opinion."

  • "The food was terrific, service was fairly good, but spotty when you needed something. Large portions and great tasting."

  • "I had higher hopes when Scopa replaced Boccavino. I was disappointed with the menu selections, the pricing and the food itself. I ordered the bruschetta and Caesar salad, and was very disappointed with both. The bruschetta was on focaccia bread (way too thick and soft, was listed on menu as crustini) and needed more garlic. I did enjoy the goat cheese spread under the bruschetta, but that was the best part of it. The Caesar salad needed more dressing, and a tastier dressing at that. I was just disappointed in Scopa period."

  • "I read many negative reviews on urbanspoon about this gem but truly it was amazing! They accommodated our groups allergies so easily you would think they didn't serve anythjng else! We will be returning often!"

  • "We were fans of Boccavino's and were loking forward to the new format. We were diappaointed and will not returnt to this restaurant. For a venue billed as neighborthood italian it sure missed the mark. There is nothing neighborly about this place. Our server was friendly, when we saw him, service was slow, manager had to bring bill, food was deliverd by a server who basically dropped the dishes on the table. No bread to start the meal, no frsh pepper to add flavour, pasta on the main dish was dry, and cold. $28 main dish, while tasty, did not have any plate appeal at all. Seemd to loose interest in us after I had one overpriced glass of wine and then declined to order any more."

  • "Three of us wanted to try out this newly opened Italian restaurant. We had ordered the following for appetizers: meatballs, saffron risotto cakes and the focaccia bread. All items were very tasty and the portions were good. I would recommend all these items. For entrees two of us ordered the Spaghetti alla Carbonara and the third person ordered the Garganelli. The entrees again were good size portions and full of flavor. We ended up taking leftovers. My first choice for an entrée was the lasagna and was told that they ran out. (I found this surprising since it is an Italian restaurant and it was only 6:30 pm.) I will be coming back to Scopa for sure to try other items on the menu."

  • "Fabulous food! I had the risotto and it was delightful. My guest had the manzo and loved it. Thank you, Scopa!"

  • "I had read the reviews, and we were a bit worried about trying Scopa - but not a single bad review was correct in our opinion. The service was exceptional. The food was delicious and the prices are very fair for the quality and portion sizes. We will definitely be back."

  • "Not energetic but "loud", significantly reducing the ambiance. Large group was very loud that evening. Not a great experience. Might want to restrict number at a table, otherwise go somewhere where they offer a room."

  • "A busy place, perhaps because it's newly opened. Don't go with the crowd to avoid high noise levels and sloppy service. Food was okay but nothing special."

  • "This is our favorite place to go to!! It is in our neighborhood, so nice and close. Love the new look, the new menu, food is great! The staff are wonderful. A must go to!"

  • "Service was very slow, although there were only diners at two other tables. Server was somewhat rude when I suggested the calamari was dry & asked for a sauce. She brought humus... (with calamari??). The portions were small for the price. I was very surprised to know Scopa has the same owners as Bonterra.(One of my favourite restaurants with consistently great food). I will not return to Scopa, nor will I recommend it."

  • "Went for Father's Day and the place was packed. Took over ran hour to get our food, which was nothing special, waiters seems flustered. The host was very apologetic and comped our desserts which were delicious, but to top everything off when they came out the waiter brought us each half a cup of coffee and told us a fresh pot was brewing - very strange."

  • "I had mixed feelings about Scopa, being that they took over the space from my beloved Boccavino...but I'm always game for a new restaurant. The space is renovated nicely (I will admit, boccavino needed that), and it's a nice warm atmosphere with very polite/pro service staff (our guy was excellent). Food was good...along the same lines as most other "non chain" Italian places. A few more trendy ingredients thrown in (boar bacon, etc), but honestly nothing to justify their crazy prices. My wife had a linguine dish with scallops and shrimp ($28!). It was good, but most similar places would have been ~$10 cheaper for the same dish. I don't mind paying for great food one bit...but this wasn't worth the price of admission."

  • "My husband and I ordered a cheese/meat platter served with the water crackers, that was nice although the mortadella was a bit dried out around the edges. He ordered the salumi pizza and said it was good, not great but good. I am a carbonara lover but the dish served to me on Friday was way too salty and the pasta was undercooked. This place was recommended by a friend and I have to say I was totally disappointed. Overall it lacked the "freshness" that good italian places have."

  • "A very creative menu - everything we had was beautifully cooked and was presented with flair. My husband had the rotisserie chicken, which was tender and juicy and HUGE! I had the trout, which was an exquisite combination of flavours and textures. We were delighted with our experience and look forward to returning."

  • "From the beginning the problems started. the menu was very limited and printed so small that you could not read it anyways. The ladies want to leave immediately as they did not see anything appealed to them on the menu. When the food arrived ,the portions were so small it was unbelievable especially for the amount of money they charged. The cheese sticks were awful. The bill came and we were charged more than printed in the menu and had to be corrected. This wanna be Italian restaurant has a long ways to go to earn our business. Luckily Calgary has so many awesome italian restaurants we don't need to go back to this one."

  • "Enjoyed the new addition to the neighbourhood & enjoyed the food but it seems they've chosen to join the recent trend toward industrial design...which really means, keep it noisy so people don't hang out. Could barely carry on a conversation on a recent busy Friday night. Will not rush back."

  • "We were very pleased with everything. This was our first dinner at Scopa and it was great. I see it will just get better and better with time, as all new restaurants have a few issues at the start."

  • "I had arrived early for my dinner reservations and the table was ready. The service was great from start to finish. We started with Bruschetta and calamari which we really enjoyed. The lasagna was a good portion and sure to try again. The service was quick while we were socializing with our friends. I would return to try more dishes and recommend to my friends . The place was full and the atmosphere was vibrant. "

  • "Not many choices for our taste buds.......food was so so....barely warm too...like my food hot.......service was VERY slow.....we believe it was the kitchen as the waiter was attentive.......wine was good but on the expensive side.....won't come back again and won't recommend it,,,sorry"

  • "Great wine list, great new menu, a must go to place for Italian! The manager and the staff were all very friendly and happy to have each and every one of us there. We look forward to our next visit, and trying something else on the menu!!"

  • "the food was outstanding. I went to this restaurant when it was Boccavino's and will certainly go back. The service unfortunately was terrible. That could seriously damage your reputation."

  • "Great family restaurant and we did go as an extended family (7 people including 2 children). Very busy as Saturday night. We ordered dessert which took a long time to appear. Other than that great evening. Great Chianti wine at reasonable price $38.00"

  • "We were huge fans of the previous restaurant Boccavino before it got bought out and being renovated. We have been looking forward to the re-opening and we are not disappointed. It is much pricier than previously, but the decor has improved a lot! It makes the dining experience much more comfortable. The wine list has been expanded and even the beer choices are great. The focaccia is really tasty with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I had the linguini and they are very generous with the seafood. My husband had Manzo and the beef is very tender and it's great quality of meat. The roasted coffee beans on the tiramisu is a very nice touch. A great experience! "

  • "When I order pasta with the boar bacon, I want the bacon cooked. I was told the chef leaves it chewy, nobody likes uncooked fat. Credit it to Tim he n/c the meal. My guests had chicken piccata that had no lemon taste or flavor. Maybe just expecting Boccavino type food. "

  • "Server too friendly but not paying attention to us or our order...she was flitting all over although there were other servers. I did not get my meal at the same time as my friends. I expect the server forgot to place my order because when she took our orders she wrote nothing down and was back five minutes later to ask us again what we had all ordered. She was not very familiar with the menu ...too much talking and not enough listening. Three empty salt mills were delivered to our table and it took more that 20 minutes and 3 requests for her to produce 3 pastries which I am pretty sure were not being made on site. I realize this is a brand new restaurant but not a place I will try again for a very long time..bad first impression."

  • "This new restaurant is off to a good start with excellent service and good food. Food and wine prices are a bit high and menu does not have as much selection in the entrees as I would like to see. "

  • "We came in for dinner with low expectations given that the restaurant had just opened. Unfortunately, the experience was worse than expected. The space has been given a nice facelift but the food and service fell way short. It took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks, we didn't finish either of our meals because they just weren't tasty, and we had to prompt our server for everything we needed (another drink, side plates etc) Boccavino left big shoes to fill and I hope they are able to work out the kinks "
