A word from Scoma's Restaurant
Our Fisherman's Wharf seafood restaurant is steeped in a family tradition of quality and service. Still family owned and operated, Scoma’s opened in 1965, when brothers Al and Joe Scoma took over a six table coffee shop serving fishermen on the wharf. Using their mother’s recipe collection, the Scoma brothers' humble café evolved over the years becoming the quintessential San Francisco dining destination it is today.Continued

  • "Food was pretty good. That's the best I can say. Had to get the host's attention. Had made reservations for a table by window a month in advance. Didn't get one. But the view wasn't that great anyway. The waiter was boring and inattentive. Would not recommend."

  • "As an airline crew... I have eaten at many many great spots... But I can say this place...the food and services were Amazing!!"

  • "I always take San Francisco visitors to Scoma's if I can, and it never disappoints. The ambience is 4-star rather than 5 because the building feels small and can get quite crowded, especially near the door, so much so that it gets difficult to move around the restaurant. But many people will just enjoy that as part of the freshest-catch seafood experience. And the food and service have always been outstanding. Highly recommended."

  • "We had a fantastic meal on Saturday July 5th. The Cioppino was to die for with so much seafood all cooked perfectly. The wine and bread weren't bad either! Not our first time there and won't be our last!!!"

  • "We ate at Scoma's on 7/3/14. I had the fried calamari and pork tenderloin. First, the calamari... it was delicious. Fried calamari is my husband's favorite food so we ordered it at every restaurant we could for our 5 day trip. We tried Barbara's Fishtrap, Mezzaluna Sam's Chowder House, Princeton Fish Company (all in Half Moon Bay), and the food stand at Fisherman's Wharf. Scoma's was the best I've ever tasted. The batter was golden, crispy melt in your mouth. I will remember it forever. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was downhill. The lobster bisque was unique, and good, but the pork tenderloin was dry. Waiter did not keep my husband's soda refulled. The view atmosphere was unique, we were on a pier on the water."

  • "The best seafood in San Francisco. We make it a point to go to Scomas when we come to San Francisco."

  • "We arrived about an hour early for our reservation. They worked us in and seated us in no time. Service was great. Food was great. Would go again."

  • "The food was outstanding and the service was great. It was a lunch time special occasion for my daughter's 30th birthday and she loved it and we can't wait to go back."

  • "A special 4th of July holiday luncheon with the mother and niece of the serviceman who generously donated his heart to me was a memorable Scoma's treat. I chose a classic lobster thermidor, which was cooked to perfection with a velvety cheese and mushroom sauce, but, at my suggestion (and a bit of explanation), the ladies bravely tried dishes they had never tasted before...the "poor man's' cioppino for mama, and the penne bolognese for her granddaughter, a 13-year old whose midwestern upbringing was largely focused on hamburgers! The variety of fruits de mer in the cioppino delighted 'grandma', and the hearty richness of the bolognese sauce brought delightful approval from a previously skeptical teenager. Our experience was superb!"

  • "We had delightful evening, our waiter was very informative about some history of SF. However we are native Californians, and have been in the city for many years, but live in the suburbs. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Judy"

  • "Scomas is a nice white table cloth venue on a little Warf of its own. It's full of history and has great history and professional staff. You can come as you are it dress up and they will treat you the same."

  • "Pricey , but very good, very fresh fish, landed feet away from your table. Service friendly and attentive, clam chowder the best we have tasted yet!"

  • "Waiter (Tony) explained the menu well. Didn't finish apetizer before meal was on the table. Had a drink, apetizer and our meal and out in 45 minutes. Way too rushed! Shrimp had a slight petroleum taste. Alot of $ for a meal I didn't enjoy."

  • "Scoma's appears to be a restaurant that relies on an old tired menu rather than creating new dishes. Food from our group was mixed from very good to distinctly average. Prices are high. WAY better options in San Francisco."

  • "This is an average at best restaurant. Wait staff was not attentive. Food was average, some tables do have wonderful views but nearly everyone was shoved in the back section making it crowed, HOT and loud. This was a Saturday night so they should have been on their game. Would not recommend"

  • "It had been years since I visited Scoma's. When my good friend suggested that we dine here because it is his favorite restaurant, I was all in. The food is as scrumptious as I remembered it. The service was phenomenal and the atmosphere was relaxing. I love Scoma's!"

  • "Scomas is a delightful throwback to how dining out used to be. Crisp linens, good food and a scenic location. For lunch, it was charming but could be noisy during dinner or anytime they are full as the tables are placed tightly. Fun and tasteful, delicious food. Everything on the menu is very well done."

  • "Two words, "Crab Appetizer", OK a few more words. This place is very consistent. Service and food are fantastic. No worries if you have to wait, the bar tenders (especially Dave at the upstairs bar), serve you quickly, and pour a great drink."

  • "Every time we go to California, we eat at Scoma's for lunch. The view is nice, the service is good and the sourdough is soft and fresh. We enjoy the tradition of this classic restaurant although I couldn't say if there are better ones for the price. We got the price fix lunch which seemed like a good deal. The clam chowder was tasty. The Louis salad wasn't as good as I remember it, but there was a decent amount of shrimp and crab. The dessert was good. The restaurant is light and bright. It's old-school and plainer than today's trendier restaurants, but we still enjoyed it."

  • "Myself, my bestfriend, and my mother dined at Scoma's after a long day of touring the city and it was absolutely delicious! Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny while the food was simply incredible! We started with lobster bisque and the hot seafood sampler appetizer and each was to die for! We all shared a bottle of Illumination, a Sauvignon Blanc from Quintessa which was wonderful. For dinner we three shared two orders of their Scomas Shellfish Sauté Sec, absolutely delicious! Overall it was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal with great ambiance!"

  • "Scoma's remains a great seafood restaurant. The clam chowder to start May be the best ever. The shrimp and crab Louie was so good and the dressing was perfect. Can't wait to go back."

  • "This was an expensive restaurant and the ambience is set for a clientele that would spend money for good food and service. We received neither. We purchased a bottle of wine and the waiter splashed everything on the table. He was a robot.....get 'em in and get 'em out. He was attentive because it was his job but we really felt underappreciated. We ate at 9:00 when there was really no crowd. It certainly was not worth the price on the menu. The food was decent, but not great. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYBODY GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO."

  • "We spent our wedding anniversary at Scoma's and could not have had a more wonderful experience. Our waiter was attentive but we never felt rushed or hurried. The wine list was incredible and yet not overpriced. My husband and I both had the grilled salmon over lobster ravioli and it was the most succulent, delicious salmon I've had in a long time. If you want to have dinner pick any place, if you want to have an experience to remember eat at Scoma's. We'll be back!"

  • "Each time I go to Scoma's I remember the only real reason is because of the ease or parking. The seating process, the service, the food, the whole experience is always bland and predictable. It is most always crowded, the tables overly close. It is at the wharf, so of course, it is always pricy. The service is almost always professional, but uninspired. The plates are "here it is", the portions just adequate, and the taste and appearance without "zing". It is always just okay."

  • "With all the hype I was hearing about Scomas I expected the best food. The food was ok/good but certainly not great. To me it did not live up to my expectations."

  • "While Scoma's is famous, it may be a bit hard to find for some tourists. Fortunately, we arrived by cab and the driver drove right down to the restaurant on one of the docks on Fisherman's Wharf. As it turned out, cabbing it for four of us was an economical option. We had reservations for 7 PM and arrived at about five of. The restaurant was packed, but we were seated almost immediately. Tim, our waiter. was very helpful, answering any questions we had. His manner was professional, yet friendly. This is an expensive restaurant. It is seafood, San Francisco and renowned. So not unexpected. Everything arrived as ordered within a reasonable amount of time considering we were there at peak time. Portions are satisfying. Plate and diner are full"

  • "this restaurant was highly recommended by friends but to be perfectly honest; it was not all that great. The service was very slow and the noise factor was rather high. We could hear the conversation at the table behind us better than our own conversation! The view was great; we had a table right by the water. Crab cakes were delicious but would not recommend the Bloody Mary; it was terrible! Halibut was good. Menu was definitely overpriced for what you were served. Overall, not the best dinner we had at the Wharf. Strongly recommend reservations; we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Otherwise it would have been a much longer wait. This was the Scoma's at Fisherman's Wharf."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. I always get impeccable service and the best seafood. Nice wine list too. We had reservations but requested a window seat, the wait was only 15 minutes. This is my "go to" restaurant when I come to the City. You can depend on good food and a top notch wait staff! I'll be back........"

  • "We really enjoyed our experience - my husband and I hadn't been to the restaurant in at least 30 years and it's as good or better than when I lived in the Bay Area. Fun location in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf. All the staff were outstanding and happy to be of service - also very knowledgeable. We had the Dore-prepared sole and the Alaskan halibut. Both were outstanding - you get lots of food - so be careful and don't fill up on the bread! The sole dish was quite large - I'm so used to dover sole, this was a surprise to see how much fish was on the plate but still it had the delicate flavor and tenderness I was seeking. Don't miss this spot - enjoy!"
