A word from Scoma's Restaurant
Our Fisherman's Wharf seafood restaurant is steeped in a family tradition of quality and service. Still family owned and operated, Scoma’s opened in 1965, when brothers Al and Joe Scoma took over a six table coffee shop serving fishermen on the wharf. Using their mother’s recipe collection, the Scoma brothers' humble café evolved over the years becoming the quintessential San Francisco dining destination it is today.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I booked Scomas based on the reviews of others, I was visiting SF from the UK with a group of 5 friends. We wanted a taste of Fisherman's Wharf that wasn't touristy and with great food. We were not disappointed, the whole experience of Scomas gave us great memories of SF. Our waitress Lori was very knowledgeable about the menu offering recommendations without being pushy. We will definitely be visiting Scomas again"

  • "We ate 3 times at Scoma's during our present trip - once for lunch at Sausalito and twice for dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. Each time the food and experience were outstandingly good; we first ate at Scoma's 35 years ago and we look forward to dining there each time we visit San Francisco. A unique place, as the queues outside testify"

  • "This place is highly recommended and everyone seemed to know we were going there just by saying we were heading to pier 47. When we got there I was immediately put off by an extremely loud table next to us. I asked the waiter- who clearly was trying to get us out of there as soon as possible ( place closes at 10:30, we got there at 9:30) if there was anywhere quieter and the hostess came by basically saying that the whole place was loud. When I told her where the problem was coming from- she said they would be leaving soon- they weren't. Food was mediocre at best. I had the crab and my bf had some sort of lobster drowned in cheese meal. I would not come here again or recommend this place. "

  • "We had a great early dinner at Scomas. A nice meal and friendly staff made for a really good experience for the entire family!"

  • "The prawns with vodka sauce entree on the prix fixe dinner menu arrived with three average-size shrimp (about a 26-30/pound size) and an overwhelming amount of penne pasta. One would think, in a seafood restaurant, one would be able to see the seafood."

  • "The clam chowder was the best I've had. The lobster newburg was too rich and the flavors were not my favorite. However, the service was great."

  • "Scoma's hasn't changed in the 30 years since my last visit. Couldn't help but have the Crab Louie again, and it was just as I remembered it. A SF tradition, and worth the stop for lunch. I can't comment on the dinner menu. "

  • "Place was ok . I was expecting a better view of the bay. The food was great. The prices were on the high end so it will not make my go to often list. Overall I would recommend it."

  • "We had higher hopes for Scoma's considering we had gone to other fantastic restaurants already in SF. It is a solid old restaurant with good, tasty food, but it isn't wow! Maybe we didn't order their wow dishes! The decor I wasn't into. I felt like we were in a trailer and I really disliked the wallboard........"

  • "We had a table with a wonderful view to celebrate my wife's 75th Birthday; also the weather was good and we enjoyed seeing the near-by fishing boats. The service was excellent and timing very good. Our waitress made good suggestions on menu items and portion sizes. Other wait staff were also very friendly and efficient and one kept coming by to say happy birthday often. Added to the festivities. It's been a while since we last dined at Scoma's as we don't dine in SF at the wharf that offen."

  • "It's just magical here. Our server, Andres , had worked there for over 10 years. He was such a pro a out our requests and quite honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Always a gem of the Bay Area."

  • "Great restaurant overall. Love the food the best. The old time feel if the restaurant is great just needs some general attention to details with service and ambiance."

  • "it has been 15 years since we last had dinner here.. It was on our MUST DO list for our visit to San Francisco this weekend.. Scoma's is still Scoma's .. best Bloody Mary.. Long wait.. we had a 4:30 Reservation thanks to Open Table so our table was ready but it was early for dinner. LONG wait at bar when we left around 5:30. I think there has been a significant price jump..($75/pp) Food was good but NOT outstanding!! ??? Sand Daps were dry.. Chioppino was as if made with Spaghetti sauce but lots of fish!! Bread good.. but not as fresh typical SF Sourdough... So I would still probably return in another 10 years.. but could miss it!"

  • "The food is delicious if you like sea food this is the place to go."

  • "Good quality food, however, huge portions, daunting to regular stomachs. In hindsight we would have shared dishes, especially the shrimp/crab louie. The quality of the seafood very high, and the actual "chunks' large and juicy. The vegetables not overcooked. Would go again!"

  • "We chose the restaurant for week-night dinner to celebrate my birthday. Food was good, as usual, but a loud group at an adjoining table made for an unpleasant dining experience!"

  • "I discovered Scoma's about 30 years ago on one of my many trips to SF. I had always raved about it to my wife and finally got to take her there. She to was greatly impressed. The cioppino was awesome as alway and enough to feed a small country. The halibut my wife had was equally as good. This restaurant is not cheap $$$$ but is still over 30 years later worth it"

  • "This was our first dining experience at Scomas. Good friends recommended it to us and it was beyond our expectations! The Dungenous Crab cocktail was absolutely delish! The Seafood Cioppino, one if there signature dishes was amazing. Stop by the bar and see Stephen for a Grey Goose Martini with Blue Cheese olives. Great way to start off the evening. Both service and good were exceptional. We recommended Scomas to a couple traveling with our group and they were equally impressed with the experience."

  • "I am from Colorado and when I visit SF my husband and I used to love this place. This past visit the food was fair, calamari was awful, it smelled funny, and it appears that all of the pictures on the wall are of performers that are either dead or very, very old. This place needs a fresh makeover. I am really sorry to write this, but it was disappointing."

  • "I was skeptical because Scoma's reminded me of an old-fashioned shore restaurant that locals might have fond memories of but where the food was average. I had an outstanding meal, with their prix-fixe menu, and was given outstanding service. They even packaged my leftovers to take to the airport without dripping. It is pricey, and I am not a fan of a 4% add-on for employee health (it seems to me that should be factored into their general pricing system) but the food made it worth the occasional splurge."

  • "We had our third visit to Scoma's recently while visiting San Fran. While we are not experts on fresh seafood, we have found Scoma's to be quite reliable on delivering scrumptious seafood dishes and a variety of offereings. We thought the wine list was quite nice also."

  • "Scoma's has been a favorite of ours for years. We always make a point of going every time we are in SF. This time was do do very disappointing. We had crab salads and cioppino. Incredibly expensive dishes, they were generously filled with crab and seafood, but the crab was a little mushy and the tomato base was very bland. Our waiter was nice enough, but a little rude. We won't be returning."

  • "Needed out of the house, so we took the kids (ages 10, 7, 1) to Pier 39 for a morning of fun and for lunch at Scoma's. Great service, throw back menu, but perfectly prepared food. Chowder, crab cocktail and sand dabs hit the spot for the grown-ups and the kids very much enjoyed their respective burger and grilled cheese sandwich. This is a perfect spot for locals to do the tourist thing."

  • "This Restaurant hasn't changed since we ate there the last time which was 33 years ago. This restaurant is very hard to just show up and get a table you have to plan ahead and make a reservation. Scoma's is the place to eat when you are in the Bay, even traveling thru like we were. layover at SFO."

  • "We ordered the lazy man's crab chioppingo and the swordfish.. My nephew said he had never tasted better swordfish... and I've been going here just for this chioppino. I don't even bother trying to get it elsewhere anymore, as nothing measures up to Scoma's."

  • "It was the wettest day of the year, but it was Bob's birthday so off we went. Soooo nice to have Valet Parking in San Francisco on the wharf. I ordered the Crab Louie and I have never seen so much crab on one plate. The lettuce was just peeking out at the bottom. Delicious too! The Bloody Mary was just spicy enough. The seating for 6 people was a little tight until we got settled, then it was fine and very comfortable - we had the booth. All in all - a great day and great service!!"

  • "Fresh Seafood is served daily. The Halibut & Dungeness Crab were outstanding. The walls are covered with photos of famous individuals who have dined at this fine establishment. It's like stepping back in time to the 60's when life was much different than today. All of the waiters wear white coats and black ties. The service is exceptional. You will not be disappointed."

  • "Hard to beat the quality of the food, seafood choices and the professionalism of the waiters at Scoma's. And the view is true old San Francisco."

  • "Saw the reviews and booked. Was very touristy. Food wasnt great. Service was not good. Overall not a great dining experience. Would rather go somehwere else in the city."

  • "We called a week ahead of time and asked for a table with a view. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table "with a view" to come available. A rum & coke and bourbon on the rocks was over $20! Located on the pier the view was great. Our server was attentive although he messed up on the wine order. The food was very good and the portions were generous. But my fish was served with a perfunctory mix of vegetables, mostly cauliflower and broccoli, delicious but uninspired and slightly overcooked. It's a busy place and the noise level is high. It's an "old school" type of restaurant but it's a great place to have some seafood, expertly prepared, while sitting right beside the very water from which it came."
