A word from Scoma's Restaurant
Our Fisherman's Wharf seafood restaurant is steeped in a family tradition of quality and service. Still family owned and operated, Scoma’s opened in 1965, when brothers Al and Joe Scoma took over a six table coffee shop serving fishermen on the wharf. Using their mother’s recipe collection, the Scoma brothers' humble café evolved over the years becoming the quintessential San Francisco dining destination it is today.

We could not get a reservation until 9:15, which is late for an east coaster. The seafood combo was worth the wait. Our waiter was difficult to understand and the husband bashing women at the adjacent table were obnoxious, but the food and wine combination saved the night!

Wanted to top my husband's special birthday celebration in the city with a special dinner and this was a perfect choice. It was everything I had hoped for, excellent ambience, wine, his salmon was great, my shrimp excellent. Ray was an outstanding waiter. loved the view of the marina. We will be back!

Scoma's long in my memory. Disappointing, this trip. What I experienced from the menu: crab cakes--okay, but a more enticing sauce might have been better; Oysters Rockefeller--phoned in, to the point of tasteless: Petrale sole, okay per my wife; sand dabs--very ordinary, breaded and broiled, (I believe) a mistaken strategy for the chef, fish dry, breading obtrusive and salty to boot. Both entrees came with penne tubes and some conglomeration of squash, when I had been willing and planning to order more interesting sides--I should have. The wine, a moderately expensive California sauv. blanc, extolled by the waiter...meh. Could list ten better fish places where I live, Dallas, that notable Gulf Coast seafood Mecca.

Made a 6pm reservation a few days in advance, lucky, line was out the door when we left around 7;30. Food was great, Crab was fabulous, had it sautéed, recommended by Waitress. Oysters Rockefeller could have been better, too much moisture with the Spinach. Seared Ahi Tuna was very good.

We live 40 miles from San Francisco but when we have friends visit from out of state and want to meet in the city, Scoma's is the first place we think about. Even our grandchildren ask to go to Scoma's for the wonderful clam chowder. It has been a family favorite for many many years. I guess that says it all!

My deep fried seafood assortment was excellent. My wife tried to order a half crab salad but she was not impressed. The salad was ordinary and she expected a nice presentation but it wasn't. The rest of the meal and soup was excellent. Service was great. I'd come back but I don't think my wife will ask to go there in the future.

Booked this for our 29th anniversary. The bartenders are old school classic mixologists. They know how to mix a drink and they make sure you're satisfied with the results. The seafood is (of course) fresh off the boat. The place has a mid-20th century nautical charm. We'd go back next time we're in the SF area.

The restaurant is in a classic dockside location and has an old school, classic feel - very much like Little Italy in any larger city. The waiters, food and ambiance feels as if it has not changed in decades. We enjoyed the experience for our Wednesday night dinner. We made reservations and did not have to wait - others were waiting at least one hour. Seafood was good and properly cooked but was nothing special. The entrees were not cheap - about $40 each. As out of towners we are glad we went but are not likely to return.

We knew we had to visit Scoma's when we booked our trip to the States. We weren't disappointed! from the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. The hostess had read my booking notes and had a window table prepared for us. While we waited delicious White Cap cocktails were sipped at the friendly bar. Our table service was excellent; Ray our waiter carefully explained our options and offered helpful advice on wine selection. The wine list was superb and we thoroughly enjoyed every delicious morsel of food we ate. My highlight was the Oysters Rockerfeller starter but my husband refuses to differentiate between such yummy grub. We highly recommend and will certainly come again when we are next in San Francisco.

The restaurant hasn't changed in 20+ years as thats the last time there. The food ordered was good but plated like it came from behind the counter at a diner. Table next to us from Italy as my son speaks Italian. They didn't like their drinks or their food. The service ,Kevin, was pleasant and knowledgeable. The facility itself is dated. Really needs an overhaul. Very worn out. The outside of the restaurant was not maintained as garbage was outside the kitchen door which was open. My comment regards to the kitchen was it wouldn't have passed a city inspection without a bribe. There is no doubt that Scoma's location makes this a special place

    Hopeful
    Dined on 9/6/2014
I went with high hopes that Scoma had maintained it's reputation as a top class restaurant. Unfortunately like most older restaurants it is tired. The surroundings from when I visited in the 1990s had not changed. Not deterred I was looking forward to the seafood, which back then was in a class of it's own. I found the food common, cold and not much better then chain food. I was needless say disappointed and sad that I had to spend $250 on a meal that would have paid only $50. I am not doing this response with mean spirit but honest concern for a reputation that needs attention.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. Although a little hard to find if you are walking, it was worth the search. The "Catch of the Day" which was salmon in a saffron risotto was beautifully plated; they had a twist on their caesar dressing (which was great!); and the cioppino was hearty and delicious. Our waiter Chris was fantastic. Loved it!

So proud to bring my VIP guest here! This gracious restaurant is classic excellence of beautiful Italian cuisine. Wonderful Italian wines complement the fresh seafood. Steak and vegetarian options are great, too. Can't stop reminiscing about the fabulous wild-caught Alaskan salmon with lobster ravioli (and a luscious lobster tail on top) served with saffron cream sauce that I absolutely adored – pure perfection. Scoma's is my favorite place to eat. They have a great menu, romantic views, and the best service in the city. We were seated inside next to the dock with views of both the Transamerica Building and Coit Tower. With their assortment of pastas, whether they be on the menu or made to ask, their seafood is by far the best you can find. Whenever you sit you will be greeted by your waiter who will explain what was just brought in, insuring you understand what is fresh from the bay. Ray and Kevin are always our waiters and they are great! They always assure you what is fresh and deliver excellent customer service! Scoma's is the best and along with all of their excellence, they also have complimentary vallet parking. :)

Went there with my husband. Service was slow but we weren't in a rush. Tables are very close together. We both got the prefixe dinner menu. Crab cakes were great. I got the scallops for dinner which were overcooked. Mashed potatoes were good and the tiramisu was good. Had very high expectations and thought it ended being a pretty standard seafood place. Would try something different the next time I'm in San Fran.

Even though it was Labor Day weekend and there were a ton of people at Fishermans Wharf we had great service. Our table was ready for us when we got there. We got a window seat that I requested and just had a wonderful dinner. The wine was also excellent. This was some of the freshest seafood I have ever had. A cool place hidden in a quiet location. I can't wait to go back. We met some locals at the bar that said they have been going there for years and I can see why. The prices were also very reasonable to. YES I recommend this restaurant to everyone who goes to Fishersman Wharf. Enjoyed very much, Bob

Scoma's came highly recommended, but I felt like they just want to turn the tables around to seat more people because it is so popular. My halibut was dry and very ordinary. My husband had the seafood sauté which was very good. Our waiter did not tell us about all the specials, as I overheard another waiter mentioning other specials to diners that we were not even told about. I think Scoma's relies on their location and name, and the food is highly overrated. hVing said that, our waiter was attentive, and our wine glasses were always full! Disappointing though. Didn't meet our expectations

My husband and I went to Scoma's on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Although our table was not at a window, it was still a nice view of the boats in the dock. The resteraunt itself sits on the pier and definitely gives you a "boat" appeal inside. Wait staff was extremely attentive, constantly checking in and probably the best service we've had in San Francisco. The clam chowder and our meals were absolutely delicious (I had the lobster ravioli, my husband had the salmon with lobster ravioli). Afterwards I took some beautiful pictures from the pier. A great dining experience, will definitely return next time I'm back in the bay area.
