A word from Scoma's Restaurant
Our Fisherman's Wharf seafood restaurant is steeped in a family tradition of quality and service. Still family owned and operated, Scoma’s opened in 1965, when brothers Al and Joe Scoma took over a six table coffee shop serving fishermen on the wharf. Using their mother’s recipe collection, the Scoma brothers' humble café evolved over the years becoming the quintessential San Francisco dining destination it is today.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Good quality food, however, huge portions, daunting to regular stomachs. In hindsight we would have shared dishes, especially the shrimp/crab louie. The quality of the seafood very high, and the actual "chunks' large and juicy. The vegetables not overcooked. Would go again!"

  • "We chose the restaurant for week-night dinner to celebrate my birthday. Food was good, as usual, but a loud group at an adjoining table made for an unpleasant dining experience!"

  • "I discovered Scoma's about 30 years ago on one of my many trips to SF. I had always raved about it to my wife and finally got to take her there. She to was greatly impressed. The cioppino was awesome as alway and enough to feed a small country. The halibut my wife had was equally as good. This restaurant is not cheap $$$$ but is still over 30 years later worth it"

  • "This was our first dining experience at Scomas. Good friends recommended it to us and it was beyond our expectations! The Dungenous Crab cocktail was absolutely delish! The Seafood Cioppino, one if there signature dishes was amazing. Stop by the bar and see Stephen for a Grey Goose Martini with Blue Cheese olives. Great way to start off the evening. Both service and good were exceptional. We recommended Scomas to a couple traveling with our group and they were equally impressed with the experience."

  • "Scones is always a great SF spot. Especially when the current adults have been coming since they were children! We celebrated our child's 28 th!,"

  • "I am from Colorado and when I visit SF my husband and I used to love this place. This past visit the food was fair, calamari was awful, it smelled funny, and it appears that all of the pictures on the wall are of performers that are either dead or very, very old. This place needs a fresh makeover. I am really sorry to write this, but it was disappointing."

  • "I was skeptical because Scoma's reminded me of an old-fashioned shore restaurant that locals might have fond memories of but where the food was average. I had an outstanding meal, with their prix-fixe menu, and was given outstanding service. They even packaged my leftovers to take to the airport without dripping. It is pricey, and I am not a fan of a 4% add-on for employee health (it seems to me that should be factored into their general pricing system) but the food made it worth the occasional splurge."

  • "We had our third visit to Scoma's recently while visiting San Fran. While we are not experts on fresh seafood, we have found Scoma's to be quite reliable on delivering scrumptious seafood dishes and a variety of offereings. We thought the wine list was quite nice also."

  • "Scoma's has been a favorite of ours for years. We always make a point of going every time we are in SF. This time was do do very disappointing. We had crab salads and cioppino. Incredibly expensive dishes, they were generously filled with crab and seafood, but the crab was a little mushy and the tomato base was very bland. Our waiter was nice enough, but a little rude. We won't be returning."

  • "Needed out of the house, so we took the kids (ages 10, 7, 1) to Pier 39 for a morning of fun and for lunch at Scoma's. Great service, throw back menu, but perfectly prepared food. Chowder, crab cocktail and sand dabs hit the spot for the grown-ups and the kids very much enjoyed their respective burger and grilled cheese sandwich. This is a perfect spot for locals to do the tourist thing."

  • "We enjoyed clam chowder soup, prawns and scallops alla gannon. They also surprised us with a chocolate dessert for a 69th birthday. Having a window seat added to the ambiance. It was a wonderful evening."

  • "This Restaurant hasn't changed since we ate there the last time which was 33 years ago. This restaurant is very hard to just show up and get a table you have to plan ahead and make a reservation. Scoma's is the place to eat when you are in the Bay, even traveling thru like we were. layover at SFO."

  • "We ordered the lazy man's crab chioppingo and the swordfish.. My nephew said he had never tasted better swordfish... and I've been going here just for this chioppino. I don't even bother trying to get it elsewhere anymore, as nothing measures up to Scoma's."

  • "It was the wettest day of the year, but it was Bob's birthday so off we went. Soooo nice to have Valet Parking in San Francisco on the wharf. I ordered the Crab Louie and I have never seen so much crab on one plate. The lettuce was just peeking out at the bottom. Delicious too! The Bloody Mary was just spicy enough. The seating for 6 people was a little tight until we got settled, then it was fine and very comfortable - we had the booth. All in all - a great day and great service!!"

  • "Fresh Seafood is served daily. The Halibut & Dungeness Crab were outstanding. The walls are covered with photos of famous individuals who have dined at this fine establishment. It's like stepping back in time to the 60's when life was much different than today. All of the waiters wear white coats and black ties. The service is exceptional. You will not be disappointed."

  • "Saw the reviews and booked. Was very touristy. Food wasnt great. Service was not good. Overall not a great dining experience. Would rather go somehwere else in the city."

  • "We called a week ahead of time and asked for a table with a view. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table "with a view" to come available. A rum & coke and bourbon on the rocks was over $20! Located on the pier the view was great. Our server was attentive although he messed up on the wine order. The food was very good and the portions were generous. But my fish was served with a perfunctory mix of vegetables, mostly cauliflower and broccoli, delicious but uninspired and slightly overcooked. It's a busy place and the noise level is high. It's an "old school" type of restaurant but it's a great place to have some seafood, expertly prepared, while sitting right beside the very water from which it came."

  • "Some of the freshest seafood I've ever had. Very reasonable price. Nice portions. I'll definitely be back."

  • "It brought back memories of when I was a child growing up in a Sicilian family when we would go out to eat on Saturday nights. The Glass of soda with the cherry in it, the fried calamari, the waiters in white coats. It's a great old school Italian restaurant. The food was very fresh and very tasty. We had the Scoma's mixed shellfish entree which was very delicious and the garlic bread was very very good also. The Wait staff is incredible, they are so friendly. That night our waiter was Waimann he was top notch. But to me the most delicious thing in this place is the TIRAMISU! It is the best I have had in any restaurant or bakery up and down the peninsula. You have to Scoma's or you will be sorry."

  • "Scoma's is a nice old time restaurant. We decided to go to try their Cioppino. The place sits right on the water. We ordered the Clam Chowder, Cioppino, and Garlic Crab. The chowder was very tasty and had a lot of clams. The cioppino was very good. They cracked all the crab shells so you could enjoy the crab meat without all the work. The cioppino had a nice flavor but was a little too thick for me. The garlic crab has a good flavor with the garlic and lemon. It was very fresh. This is a good place for a family to go and enjoy some fresh seafood!"

  • "My husband has wanted to eat at Scomas for years . We finally get there and we had a table so tight with only a view of rusted out fishing boats over our shoulder. The atmosphere was 1960's paneling and old outdated pictures. No good music... Nothing? Food was so average. I would recommend this place if you are in your 70's. Service is outstanding. Time to renovate Scoma's!"

  • "Scoma's restaurant is by far my favorite place to have a fish dinner. I'm not the biggest fan of fish, but I know I'll love it there. The service far exceeds what one would hope for and the drinks are good too. I highly suggest this restaurant be a must stop for visitors to San Francisco."
