We went to Scion for Brunch. The
menu selection was awesome. It was hard to decide what to get. The portions were just right. Our party had the crab cakes benedict, which were amazing, the lobster reuben, which was equally delicious and two really yummy omlettes. The servers and staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It was a great experience. Other than the fact that parking isn't that abundant, I will definitely return!"

Scion has a great new location in
Silver Spring. They had a great Saturday brunch, which is hard to find in this area. Overall, the food was tasty, appealed to a large group (including young diners), and affordable. Their pitchers of mimosas were a hit!"

This was our second visit which
featured a "Tap Takeover" from the Flying Dog brewery of Frederick. Excellent selection of draft beers and dinner specials confirmed our earlier conclusion that Scion knows how to please a wide range of tastes: from the hard-core beer drinker/burger eater to the teetotaler vegetarian. Well done!"

My family and I chose Scion
(Silver Spring) because I've enjoyed their bar before. They're menu isn't big on brunch like meals, but it gets the job done. The service was excellent even after half of the party was delayed an hour and there was a chip in the beer cup. Food was great (as always) and my parents enjoyed the craft beer."

Scion is a nice addition to Silver
Spring. It is a casual restaurant with good food. I requested a private area to sit in because I was meeting with a friend to discuss business and Scion was very accommodating. The owner came over to the table to make sure we were satisfied with everything. I will go back."

Food is amazing. Went for
Valentines and other occasions. Only critique would be - for such a high level of good taste - wait staff could look a lil more "neat" - not feeling the jeans look - and a couple pictures on the wall would be a lil more warming. However, if food is your main objective...cant go wrong. Everything I've ever ordered is great!"

There seemed to be a number of
discrepancies and little accommodation or understanding. The website had advertised a happy hour of 1/2 priced drafts on Sunday, but when we inquired, they said it wasn't on the website. It turned out they had just taken it down, but there was no apology. Also, on the beer menu it says that a full is 12 oz for the beers we ordered, but when the beer was served it was in a small snifter (maybe 6 oz.). This is a rather deceptive practice."
Dined on 2/16/2014
The only thing that was really
lacking about the restaurant was the service. However this was not the fault of the servers, when the servers were able to make it to our table they were very courteous and responded to requests promptly. What I did notice was that there were 2 servers for the entire 20+ table seating floor. It seems the management is trying to save a few bucks on servers by keeping the minimum on shift."
Dined on 2/15/2014
The restaurant is dominated by an
extremely noisy bar. The food is just ok. We tried the chicken yogurt and steak frites and both were just OK - nothing to rave about. The wine selection is adequate but prices are rather high for poor quality wines."

This is a great place for a
neighborhood hang out. We had fun. It is a bit noisy. Nice beer list."
Dined on 2/7/2014
Great neighborhood gem with nice
atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, efficient kitchen with outstanding creativity in food and presentation, yet extremely reasonable prices. Great soups, burgers, and small plates. Becoming increasingly popular with NOAA, FAA staffers for lunch. Nice bar area with fireplace. Unfortunately it is easily overlooked as it is not very visible from street in its location in a residential apartment building."

Great food. Great service. Great

So few little local places with a
good bar and good food, but this is one of them. It is a must go!"
Dined on 1/29/2014
Love this place. I wish that we
could park a bit closer. I've been here twice and my food was excellent both times."
Dined on 1/25/2014
The spicy yogurt chicken, although
a dubious title for a dish, was delicious! I would go there again just for that. The waiter was outstanding! The bartender made us custom coctails, good thing too as the ones on the official menu were just ok. Ambience is better in the bar area, with the main restaurant seeming sparce. Ask for a booth when you go. Definitely recommended, I would go again. Average prices, three dinners, appetizers and drinks for around $100."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Our appetizer and entrees arrived
promptly and were yummy, and I wasn't especially bothered by a level of noise that would likely appeal more to younger customers. The problem came at the end of the meal, when we were suddenly presented with the bill without having been offered the desert menu. We waited for a long time before getting a chance to ask for the desert menu, and when it arrived found that it was quite short and had nothing we wanted. So I would recommend this restaurant only for those who aren't interested in lingering after finishing their entrees, with or without desert."

Had an excellent dinner after an
AFI movie. We wanted to try something new and were wonderfully pleased with the food and service. We asked for recommendations from our server and took her advice ordering the Duck confit pasta and Autumn risotto with seared scallops and were delighted with both entrees. Decor is minimalist and needs some warming touches."
Dined on 12/28/2013
Food was well prepared...4 diners,
4 different entrees and all were spot on. Drinks were mediocre...the Bloody Mary prep was in adequately spicey, with no veg to speak of. Staff all very friendly, but waiter was slow with the drinks and the food despite there being only 4 occupied tables when we arrived at 1130 on a Sunday. Overall however, worth a visit. We plan on going regularly ."

It is wonderful to have a much
classier restaurant in Silver Spring now. The location is perfect for many residents of silver spring who don't want to walk all the way down town."
Dined on 12/20/2013
The brunch was excellent. The
service was great. Nate, the server was very nice."
Dined on 11/23/2013
This was our first time here. I
wish we had discovered this place sooner. Our food was excellent. I loved the decor. My husband loved the beer. It is a bit oddly located, so I hope it doesn't close anytime soon."
Dined on 11/14/2013
We went for brunch. The bloody
mary was spicy with a hint of cucumber and I really liked it. The steak and eggs were well done but I most enjoyed the potatoes. The service was good in spite of them being short staffed. Most stayed after eating just to talk so like us, we felt very comfortable. I live very close so I am glad they are here! We will back to check out happy hour."
Dined on 11/10/2013
We'd heard lunch here was good so
we decided to try it for dinner. Our server was very friendly and pointed out a few new items on the fall menu. I ordered the sweet chili shrimp with "potato and bacon hash." What came were 5 tiny, slightly overcooked shrimp on a bed of roasted potatoes tossed with bacon. The flavors didn't make sense and it was not even close to worth the $20 price tag. My dining partner had the steak frites, which he liked, but was served with flavorless stuffed tomatoes - completely out of season and poorly matched to the dish. Our cocktails were good and the fried pickles were fantastic. I'd go back for beer and pickles, and maybe a burger, but that's about it. Overpriced and poor quality. Many better options nearby."
Dined on 11/2/2013
The service was good as was the
wine selection; but the food was pretty bad. We'd not go there again."

I was looking for a new place I
hadn't been to in Silver Spring because my parents were in town. They absolutely loved the food - everything was fresh, delicious and affordable. The menu was very creative, there is something for everyone, including vegetarian and gluten free items! We'll definitely be back!"
Dined on 9/29/2013
The ambiance was
disappointing...we had just missed happy hour so the hostess said....and shortly thereafter the place was empty. The waiter was nice...not really attentive...busy with setting up things I think. The wine he recommended was a sauvignon blanc that tasted like peach water....not good....we had asked first for the chardonay (out of it) then the pinot grigio (out of it). Both were on a short list of inexpensive wines($37 a bottle)...a friend had beer and was very happy. Waiter recommended the long (expensive) list. Food was really good....and reasonable...unlike the wines.... Lighting reminded me of plate warmers....orange and hot (no real heat) and very distracting."

Dinner was fine and the server was
very knowledgeable about the menu. However, we had 3 different people come over to the table but they could not get it right. After leaving the dessert menu, our main server never came back to take our orders! About 15 minutes later, another person just brought the check without asking if we were done. When we told her we had planned to order dessert she asked if we had ordered it (in an exasperated tone) and we explained what happened. She never apologized. This is my second time there and second customer service issue (see post re mother's 82nd bday). Although not expensive, I expect more for the price. I can easily walk to somewhere else in Silver Spring and get better service and comparable food."

Showed up for first time at this
restaurant not knowing it was 1/2 price burger night -- Tuesdays! We all went with it -- two of us not even really meat eaters but seemed to be the thing to do. YUM YUM. Meat eater proclaimed it one of best ever. Good condiments and fries. Just missed happy hour or would have been even a crazier cheap dinner. Can't judge other food but some of it coming out of kitchen looked pretty good. Pretty casual place, simple decor, but nice lively atmosphere."

This was the second time that I
dined at Scion Silver Spring. I ordered a spinich salad, and I asked for grilled chicken with it. The salad was delicious, but I thought that it was rather skimpy for an entree salad. I was still hungary when I left. Also, the decor is rather stark and utilitarian. It needs more decorating to make it a more pleasing atmosphere for dining."
Dined on 9/23/2013
Scion is new to the Silver Spring
neighborhood. I've eaten there several times at both lunch and dinner -- all excellent in terms of both food and service. Based on these experiences, we tried their new brunch offering. Food was still great, but service was inexplicably slow, given the very small number of diners. They did turn the music down at our request. Would highly recommend once they work the kinks out of the brunch kitchen."
Dined on 9/22/2013
My friend is gluten free and we
had our teenage daughters with us, so when I saw Scion described as contemporary comfort food with many vegan and GF choices, I was exctied to find something that would work for all us. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed. The salmon was dry, the ribeyes were chewy with too much fat and soaking in a wierd BBQ sauce, even the fries were so-so! To be fair, the crab cake entree did have a lot of fresh, meaty crab in it, but for the price of the entrees, we certainly expected a lot more. The best thing we had was the fried pickles. Those were great and the staff was accomodating as well. The other problem with this restaurant is that parking is really inconvenient. Will def not go back!"
Dined on 9/22/2013
We were so excited to find a
restaurant in Silver Spring with yummy gluten free options! The food was very yummy and we are looking forward to returning to try more dishes on the menu."
Dined on 9/16/2013
I really like this place and
appreciate that they've taken the risk of opening up shop in a residential area in Silver Spring, which happens to be very convenient location for me, and I suspect lots of other area residents. It's a small place, but it's nicely designed, and, most importantly, I've been there twice now and both times the food was really good. My one complaint is that though the wait stuff is both nice and very knowledgeable about the menu selections (something I always appreciate!), they seem to be overstretched. Not the end of the world, but it might take you a while to pay your bill with a credit card.. I overheard a server saying that they do brunch, and I will definitely be checking this out in the near future."
Dined on 9/15/2013
This is my second visit. While my
first was almost a disaster (in an earlier review I noted that we had a waitress who left us waiting for way too long before taking a drink order that she then forgot to place, then she kept us waiting again before taking our dinner order that she placed incorrectly), I returned because the burger was great. This visit evidenced a much improved staff. Although the waiter who assisted us admitted that it was his first night , he was attentive and did a good job. We were waited on and served in a reasonable amount of time and, we both enjoyed the burgers."
Dined on 9/11/2013
The burgers and fried pickles were
good from start to finish. Lots of beer on draft many options in the bottle. The french fries had too many seasons competing for flavor. If you're in the mood for a burger this is a good spot."
Dined on 9/8/2013
My husband and I live close to
this restaurant and were pleased to walk over and enjoy a lovely meal with our friends. We hope to have many more pleasant times at Scion in the future."
Dined on 8/31/2013
The service was a mess. The place
was only 1/3 full, but we were seated immediately next to one of the other occupied tables - a family with small kids. There was only one server running from table to table. When the food was served it was clear our appetizer orders had been forgotten as well. At least two items on the menu had been substantially changed from what was listed weeks ago; I was surprised that the menu (a printed sheet of paper) hadn't been updated to reflect those changes. The server didn't point them out until we actually ordered the risotto, and then switched when we learned of the change. The kitchen seems competent enough but the front of the house has got to tighten up."
Dined on 8/25/2013
The food was great but everybody
in our group had to shout to hear one another. They also were out of several food and dessert options by 7:00 pm on a Friday--including all their ice cream. Seems like they're still working out some kinks."
Dined on 8/24/2013
Had a good time. Food and service
was excellent. Need television in the bar. Drinks could be more liberal"
Dined on 8/18/2013
Love the location because I live
across the street. Server was very good, even when dealing with the finicky seniors who were my guests. Food was quite good. The music was a little loud for me but most middle aged people like me would probably feel the same way and I imagine that the target population is much younger - so I'm sure the music is not an issue for them. My only complaint is that I did submit a request when I made my reservation to please acknowledge my elderly mother's birthday. When she ordered dessert I was disappointed to see a normal plate. No happy birthday written on it and no verbal recognition. What a lost opportunity to show customer appreciation at no cost!!!"
