Diner Reviews
  • "My only real complaint is that the server initially forgot to enter my order so it took my entree a little long to arrive. However, as soon as she realized her mistake, she alerted a manager who ensured my food came out as quickly as possible. It wasn't a huge deal because I was hanging out with an old friend and we were in no rush, but for someone else that could have been quite the imposition. Food was yummy and both happy hour wines are well worth the 5 bucks a glass. Would return in a heart beat."

  • "I had the LBJ Mac & Cheese. Service was really fast. It was not crowded when we were there but definitely seems like a place that will be hard to get a reservation at in the future."

  • "I had a great time at Scion. Great beer list(even though two kegs had kicked), good food (the garlic herb fries were great). I would go back sometime later in the summer."

  • "Familiar with the Dupont Circle Scion, this Silver Spring setting - though much less hectic with better parking options - was a disappointment. Apparently, brunch is a new thing for them. There is no table of cut fruit and other goodies, yet. So everything is strictly off the menu. Initial server seemed to have been given an apron that day (didn't know the menu). Second server was charming but our order got mixed up. When my omelette finally arrived it was great. The brie appetizer was skimpy for two and not particularly tasty. So: they have a long way to go to measure up to Dupont Circle. Keep trying... fast."

  • "The food was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. It was a nice find on a busy Saturday night when we didn't want to wait more than an hour."

  • "We went on a Saturday night. They were not crowded. Most of the food was delicious. The croquette appetizer wasn't that great. However, the burger and the risotto were delicious! I think the place was missing a bit of charm though, but otherwise enjoyable experience."

  • "This was my second trip to Scion. The first visit was for dinner, which was excellent! The salmon was perfectly cooked and the potatoes & grilled broccoli were delish. Went back for lunch with fingers crossed and was not disappointed. It was an early lunch that lasted well past the lunch hour. Our server was cordial; and we weren't rushed out of the place even when everyone else was gone. The portbello panini was exquisite. Great selection of beers and single malt scotch. Great service & really comfortable place. SO happy we found this hidden gem."

  • "Everyone at our table was delighted with the delicious brunch entrees. Two diners went with the Lobster Hash, which came highly recommended by a friend, and they were not disappointed. The build your own omelette was nicely prepared (with several interesting meat and vegetarian filling options) and complemented by yummy thin-cut fried potatoes. Fair warning: if you get the french toast with sliced bananas, you may have others trying to snag a bite from your plate! Only challenge at this time is parking. The private garage behind the building was not open at 10 am on Sun, and the manager said the attendant there keeps a spotty schedule. A garage across the street (by NOAA) may be an option. Do check ahead what's open weekday vs. weekend."

  • "Went on a Sunday night and was happy it was not crowded at all. The food was definitely delicious. They were short staffed but the bartender who doubled as our waiter was knowledgeable and alert. Not a small feat because the bar was overflowing and busy."

  • "We went to Scion for a business lunch. The staff was friendly and easily accomodated our group of 9, even bringing out a second waitor to take our orders. The food was good. Didn't rush us out. Overall great experience."

  • "The food was very good, nice size portions, good value. The bartender was concerned that the beer my friend ordered was a bit off that night so the server brought it and a taste of an alternative. Never seen that done before!! Was glad we were early enough for happy hour since wines are a bit pricey, especially given somewhat small pours. Disappointing dessert selection, but we were pretty full anyway. Will definitely go back."

  • "The rockfish shrimp is wonderful and so is the strawberry shortcake. Mixed drink specials are fun and we've been several times, the service is always good."

  • "We went to Scion for Brunch. The menu selection was awesome. It was hard to decide what to get. The portions were just right. Our party had the crab cakes benedict, which were amazing, the lobster reuben, which was equally delicious and two really yummy omlettes. The servers and staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It was a great experience. Other than the fact that parking isn't that abundant, I will definitely return!"

  • "Scion has a great new location in Silver Spring. They had a great Saturday brunch, which is hard to find in this area. Overall, the food was tasty, appealed to a large group (including young diners), and affordable. Their pitchers of mimosas were a hit!"

  • "This was our second visit which featured a "Tap Takeover" from the Flying Dog brewery of Frederick. Excellent selection of draft beers and dinner specials confirmed our earlier conclusion that Scion knows how to please a wide range of tastes: from the hard-core beer drinker/burger eater to the teetotaler vegetarian. Well done!"

  • "My family and I chose Scion (Silver Spring) because I've enjoyed their bar before. They're menu isn't big on brunch like meals, but it gets the job done. The service was excellent even after half of the party was delayed an hour and there was a chip in the beer cup. Food was great (as always) and my parents enjoyed the craft beer."

  • "Scion is a nice addition to Silver Spring. It is a casual restaurant with good food. I requested a private area to sit in because I was meeting with a friend to discuss business and Scion was very accommodating. The owner came over to the table to make sure we were satisfied with everything. I will go back."

  • "Food is amazing. Went for Valentines and other occasions. Only critique would be - for such a high level of good taste - wait staff could look a lil more "neat" - not feeling the jeans look - and a couple pictures on the wall would be a lil more warming. However, if food is your main objective...cant go wrong. Everything I've ever ordered is great!"

  • "There seemed to be a number of discrepancies and little accommodation or understanding. The website had advertised a happy hour of 1/2 priced drafts on Sunday, but when we inquired, they said it wasn't on the website. It turned out they had just taken it down, but there was no apology. Also, on the beer menu it says that a full is 12 oz for the beers we ordered, but when the beer was served it was in a small snifter (maybe 6 oz.). This is a rather deceptive practice."

  • "The only thing that was really lacking about the restaurant was the service. However this was not the fault of the servers, when the servers were able to make it to our table they were very courteous and responded to requests promptly. What I did notice was that there were 2 servers for the entire 20+ table seating floor. It seems the management is trying to save a few bucks on servers by keeping the minimum on shift."

  • "The restaurant is dominated by an extremely noisy bar. The food is just ok. We tried the chicken yogurt and steak frites and both were just OK - nothing to rave about. The wine selection is adequate but prices are rather high for poor quality wines."

  • "This is a great place for a neighborhood hang out. We had fun. It is a bit noisy. Nice beer list."

  • "Great neighborhood gem with nice atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, efficient kitchen with outstanding creativity in food and presentation, yet extremely reasonable prices. Great soups, burgers, and small plates. Becoming increasingly popular with NOAA, FAA staffers for lunch. Nice bar area with fireplace. Unfortunately it is easily overlooked as it is not very visible from street in its location in a residential apartment building."

  • "Love this place. I wish that we could park a bit closer. I've been here twice and my food was excellent both times."

  • "The spicy yogurt chicken, although a dubious title for a dish, was delicious! I would go there again just for that. The waiter was outstanding! The bartender made us custom coctails, good thing too as the ones on the official menu were just ok. Ambience is better in the bar area, with the main restaurant seeming sparce. Ask for a booth when you go. Definitely recommended, I would go again. Average prices, three dinners, appetizers and drinks for around $100."

  • "Our appetizer and entrees arrived promptly and were yummy, and I wasn't especially bothered by a level of noise that would likely appeal more to younger customers. The problem came at the end of the meal, when we were suddenly presented with the bill without having been offered the desert menu. We waited for a long time before getting a chance to ask for the desert menu, and when it arrived found that it was quite short and had nothing we wanted. So I would recommend this restaurant only for those who aren't interested in lingering after finishing their entrees, with or without desert."

  • "Had an excellent dinner after an AFI movie. We wanted to try something new and were wonderfully pleased with the food and service. We asked for recommendations from our server and took her advice ordering the Duck confit pasta and Autumn risotto with seared scallops and were delighted with both entrees. Decor is minimalist and needs some warming touches."

  • "Food was well prepared...4 diners, 4 different entrees and all were spot on. Drinks were mediocre...the Bloody Mary prep was in adequately spicey, with no veg to speak of. Staff all very friendly, but waiter was slow with the drinks and the food despite there being only 4 occupied tables when we arrived at 1130 on a Sunday. Overall however, worth a visit. We plan on going regularly ."

  • "This was our first time here. I wish we had discovered this place sooner. Our food was excellent. I loved the decor. My husband loved the beer. It is a bit oddly located, so I hope it doesn't close anytime soon."

  • "We went for brunch. The bloody mary was spicy with a hint of cucumber and I really liked it. The steak and eggs were well done but I most enjoyed the potatoes. The service was good in spite of them being short staffed. Most stayed after eating just to talk so like us, we felt very comfortable. I live very close so I am glad they are here! We will back to check out happy hour."

  • "We'd heard lunch here was good so we decided to try it for dinner. Our server was very friendly and pointed out a few new items on the fall menu. I ordered the sweet chili shrimp with "potato and bacon hash." What came were 5 tiny, slightly overcooked shrimp on a bed of roasted potatoes tossed with bacon. The flavors didn't make sense and it was not even close to worth the $20 price tag. My dining partner had the steak frites, which he liked, but was served with flavorless stuffed tomatoes - completely out of season and poorly matched to the dish. Our cocktails were good and the fried pickles were fantastic. I'd go back for beer and pickles, and maybe a burger, but that's about it. Overpriced and poor quality. Many better options nearby."

  • "This was the second time that I dined at Scion Silver Spring. I ordered a spinich salad, and I asked for grilled chicken with it. The salad was delicious, but I thought that it was rather skimpy for an entree salad. I was still hungary when I left. Also, the decor is rather stark and utilitarian. It needs more decorating to make it a more pleasing atmosphere for dining."

  • "Love the location because I live across the street. Server was very good, even when dealing with the finicky seniors who were my guests. Food was quite good. The music was a little loud for me but most middle aged people like me would probably feel the same way and I imagine that the target population is much younger - so I'm sure the music is not an issue for them. My only complaint is that I did submit a request when I made my reservation to please acknowledge my elderly mother's birthday. When she ordered dessert I was disappointed to see a normal plate. No happy birthday written on it and no verbal recognition. What a lost opportunity to show customer appreciation at no cost!!!"
