Schlesinger's Chop HouseGraduation DiningAfter reading several reviews we choose Schlesinger's to celebrate my son's college graduation and I couldn't have been more pleased, they even accommodated a last minute change in our reservation time for a party of 11. Amy, our server did a wonderful job handling our large boisterous party. We particularly enjoyed the she crab soup and one of our party practically licked the bowl of his carrot ginger soup. The fresh mozzarella on the caprese salad was superb and several of us enjoyed the perfectly medium rare lamb chops. It is quiet, elegant, romantic, offers quality service that is there when you need it and not bothering you if you don't. You would have to go to Paris to get better food and even if you go to Maxim's you would have to be on a first name basis with their Master Chef and speak excellent French and spend some big bucks. Everything is homemade and delicious. High quality ingredients like smoked salmon and shrimp salad. Amazing desserts.... they even have a pastry chef on staff which is unusual for Newport News. Our server was on point to insure that everything was to our liking from menu selection to wine selection to dessert selection. We were celebrating an anniversary and were pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary bottle of champagne to commemorate the occasion. We chose the restaurant because I wanted oysters. Schlesinger's seemed to be the only restaurant in the area that served oysters on their menu, I was very happy and pleased with my menu selection, it was prepared exquisitely. I was a satisfied diner. Our server Katarina was very attentive. You could almost taste the food from the way that she described it. I went to Schlesinger's as a treat for my birthday lunch with some of my co workers. We were VERY impressed with the restaurant as a whole. Everything from decor, service that was impeccable, and food that was amazing. I cant wait to come back and try one of their steaks if they can make a Burger taste as good as they did. I would highly recommend the Schlesinger's burger, and the French Onion Soup. The meal and service are always special. On Saturday, the staff was especially accomodating, permitting us to interrupt our meal as we watched the end of the NCAA game. My prime rib may have been the best I have ever had. My son never fails to have the filet and lobster, especially while Dad is there. A little pricey, but well worth it. We had the table through the back by the fire place. The setting was very cozy, romantic, peaceful even. We did however have a group at the long table who were loud an boisterous but it was ok because their language nor their conversation was rude or disrespectful. They even apologized when they left.
Out waitress, Erin, was a total delight. She checked on us regularly and made some of the best recommendations. We even met the DM I believe. The food was amazing. My fiancé inhaled the entire 24oz porterhouse. I had the red pepper bisque, simply AMAZING!! We will definitely become regulars. Our server Jim was outstanding, despite a good crowd he was on top of everything. Brunch is always great at Schlesingers but Easter brunch was even better --- well worth the cost.
