  • "We were able to go online for reservations and when we arrived our table was ready. The service was great and the food was even better. Plenty to choose from."

  • "Birthday celebration for an old friend. Nice setup for the group, attentive, but discrete service and good food from a varied well priced menu. No doubt we'll go back again."

  • "We came for the first time for the Sunday brunch and was so looking forward to the food; however you ran out of prime rib or about half of the time that we were there and more didn't come out until after we had our dessert. Seems like this nice of a restaurant would have not had a delay. Also need to do better with keeping it warm and having the juice available. Food could have been seasoned a little bit more also."

  • "Schlesinger's service, food and ambience made it a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to return."

  • "After our last visit, we were reluctant to return, but after several positive contacts from the manager, we decided to return to celebrate my birthday. We were seated in a smaller back room which was so much better than our previous experience. My only real disappointment came when after we had enjoyed our crabcake appetizer, we were told that the prime rib I had previously ordered was in fact sold out. Odd at 7:30 on a Saturday night, but I suppose it happens. I ended up with the steak au poivre which was just okay; my husband's bone-in filet was tastier. The Chocolate Exclamation at the end of the meal did help with the disappointment over my steak, and Jennifer's great service really did improve the overall experience."

  • "My beloved and I went to Schlesinger's Chop House on a Friday evening to celebrate my birthday, and I'm glad we did. Our server, Rachel was wonderful, terry had a delicious rib eye, and I had one of the specials, the Kobe New York Strip. Both steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare, the marbled fat just melted, it was simply the best steak I remember having! Oh yeah, in addition to the food ad wine, they have one of the best stocked bars in Hampton Roads, I personally recommend the Blanton's single barrel, it represents the pinnacle of the bourbon maker's craft!"

  • "I've dined at Schlesinger's on three occasions, all for lunch. The food was exquisite; the presentation was elegant; the service was impeccable - what you would expect in the finest restaurants in major metropolitan areas. Definitely recommend!"

  • "I had booked a table for my wife's 50th birthday. Unfortunately, even though the restaurant was almost empty on that Sunday evening, they squeezed us in right next to an extremely noisy table. There was a particularly obnoxious person on that table who was not only loud but was also using abusive language. I understand that he wanted to have a good evening out but he ended up ruining it for us. The restaurant staff made no attempt to quiet him down. We will not be returning to that restaurant."

  • "being local we had free appetizers with an entrée. that really made the dinner reasonable considering the quality and quantity of the food."

  • "This is our special occassion place. My family loves the food and the service."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "This is the 3rd time there - food was OK - some items a bit disappointing and certainly below other places for Prime Rib.Sald was average. Fish special was great, service was great."

  • "I am still looking for a "go to" excellent steak house in the Newport News area and it is an epic fail - as I am saddened to say Schlesinger's is. The people working there seem disinterested and the food quality for price is not very good. Now I have to say I had high expectations and that could have affected my rating - but I certainly would not go back. Go across the green to FinSeafood which is excellent and much less pretentious."

  • "I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. The service was superb. The food was excellent!!!"

  • "Three of our party ordered the 'Prime Rib Special' of the evening. The meat appeared to be cooked to our liking . . . but OH was it tough! On top of that, the knives were too dull to cut thin slivers - to combat the chewiness! If only one of us had this opinion . . . we could pass it off as 'fussiness', or one bad portion. But, none of our dinners were of the quality one would expect at a restaurant billed as a 'Chop House'. It's a shame. The place is lovely. Fine service. Cozy bar. But, we won't go back. If we plan to spend '$200 on a special night out', we expect to get a wonderful meal. The truth is . . . we have had better $14.95 steak dinners at Texas Roadhouse."

  • "I had high expectations; however, I was a little disappointed. The appetizer (Calamari) was delicious, but the Chicken and Pasta was not good at all (especially for the price) and the waitress seemed to not want to be bothered with us. I will not recommend this place to anyone."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "I took my daughter to Schlesinger's for her 17th birthday dinner, and it was an excellent choice. We were in the area for soccer and chose the restaurant because of its excellent reviews. I will definitely return if in the area again. The service was excellent and our filets were perfectly prepared."

  • "$42 for a steak with one side and no salad seems unreasonable. Also the steak was good but not great. The atmosphere is very nice but Texas Road House has a better steak at about half the price. The only way I go back is when they offer a two for one discount. Also the scallop appetizer was way over seasoned with black pepper to the point that the scallop flavor was completely overwhelmed. At these prices, I cannot accept that kind of poor culinary execution."

  • "My sisters and I chose Schlesinger's to celebrate our mother's 82nd birthday. The ambience was marvelous - classy and quiet. The food was exceptional - from the crab cake to the prime rib sandwich. Not one of us was disappointed in what we ordered. The wait staff was likewise very professional and courteous. I travel a great deal for business, and I have dined in some of the finest restaurants in major cities. Schlesinger's provided that type of dining experience. You will not be disappointed!"

  • "This was our first visit to Schlesinger's and it was outstanding. Took my wife there for a Valentines Day dinner out and she loved it. The atmosphere was quiet and unhurried and the service was excellent. But the best part was the food. We both had Schlesinger's New York Strip steaks and they were the best ever - thick, juicy and cooked to perfection. Would recommend this place to anyone for a special night out."

  • "Great, relaxing surprise for a family celebration."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "We ordered off the special Valentine's menu. Great cut of meat, although the potatoes were a bit salty. Service was overall decent, but I felt like we always had to wait to get more water or needed something. The waitress did not really cover much of the menu, and when we ordered dessert, she did not tell us about the specials, just gave us the regular menu. If I had not recalled the special desserts, we would have been forced to order off the menu, and our options would have been limited, since the waitress also did not tell us that some of the desserts would have to be preordered."

  • "Heather was our server and she was the worse server I have had there. We went for brunch and had to get another server to take our used plates. We ran out of water and had to wait five plus minutes to get our second plate for the buffet. If this was our first time going there I would not go back."

  • "Great food, great wine, quiet booth, provided roses for all female guests, service by either a slightly new server or one that us only used on very busy occasions who was only mildly friendly and partially engaging."

  • "My wife and I have dined here several times and have never had a complaint. The service is always amazing and the food is the same. It is a little pricey but well worth it in our opinion. We will be back again. And again. And again."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "But very expensive. Two of us no appetizers, no dessert. Two entrees and a low end wine. we had a gift card for $100 and we still came out of pocket $100. would only go back for a very special occasion."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The food was so so. The She Crab soup didn't taste like She Crab Soup that I've had before being in a region that has plenty choices of this soup. The dinner over all was 1-10 a 7. I would probably go to next time to Ruth Chris' for the same price."

  • "We have been coming to Schlesinger's now for over 10 years, and have never in all those visits have had a bad experience or a less than fantastic meal. The staff is top notch, the food is memorable, the ambiance is perfect for any occasion, and the management is caring. When we entertain, we choose Schlesinger's because we know everything will be great!"

  • "My wife took me for my birthday and it was perfect! I don't generally eat beef at a restaurant because it is often tough. The steak melts in your mouth and the sides are delicious. It was a great experience."

  • "My husband ate here during Newport News restaurant week and we're not disappointed. We both had the filet meldalions and lobster tail. It was awesome! Our server, Steve, was excellent! We always look forward to our visits here! Go and enjoy!"

  • "Reservation made late so were assigned a small table in bar area; had asked for a booth - not available. Food and service was excellent - as usual. Manager apologized for seating and made special note of birthday; she also checked back during meal. "Restaurant Week" event had a special menu, but in contrast to a different restaurant, servings here were smaller than normal menu. However, they were adequate and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back and would recommend to friends."

  • "We went to Schlesinger's to celebrate two birthdays and took advantage of the Restaurant Week specials. Food was excellent and the price was very reasonable. Sat by the fireplace which added a nice ambiance. The hostess and waitress were most gracious and attentive to our needs."

  • "We had an outstanding waitress with lots of personality, the food was exceptional and we loved the ambience. I would rate it a gem for Newport News...."

  • "We wanted so badly to enjoy this, but unfortunately, we just didn't. From the time we arrived, we just weren't really feeling it. We were at Opus 9 (sister restaurant in Williamsburg) a few weeks ago, and were expecting an exceptional experience similar ours there, and it just didn't happen. Our server was mediocre, specials weren't explained, service entirely slow, etc. It was quite disappointing to sit there watching tables around us receiving the service we received, only to realize that wasn't going to be happening to us. I expect that at a local chain steakhouse, but not here. Ripped jeans, stocking caps, sneakers, etc. were also seen on several patrons. Definitely would not recommend for a special evening."

  • "This was our first visit to Schlesinger's for lunch and we loved it! Portions were wonderful (we had salads), crab cake filled with crab as advertised, desserts delicious, and coffee refreshing! The price is perfect, too, for lunch! Highly recommend any time of day!"

  • "Brunch was something my husband & I had always wanted to try. Not sure why we waited so long, the experience (food, service) was absolutely amazing. Thanks to reservations, we didn't have to wait long for a table. Brittany, our server, was very attentive and strived to ensure all of our needs were met. Albeit the brunch layout was a bit cramped, there is no denying the food quality - outstanding! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed everything and will definitely be returning!"
