A word from Scarpetta
In May 2008, Chef Scott Conant opened Scarpetta in the Gansevoort Market Historic District. An Italian expression that means “little shoe” -- or the shape bread takes when used to soak up a dish -- Scarpetta represents the pure pleasure of savoring a meal down to the very last taste. The restaurant’s seasonally-inspired Italian dishes offer farm-fresh ingredients and clean, earthy flavors that pay homage to Conant’s heritage and time in Italy.

  • "I love Scarpetta and have been before. It never disappoints, especially the spaghetti and the crispy chicken. What's odd though is that when we called to make reservations, they said no tables were open, but opentable had openings and we were seated with no conflict. I'm not sure what happened when calling the restaurant, but very content that I was able to get a table online. "

  • "This is the 3rd location around the country we visited. The menu is ever changing with a mix of Italian with Scott's fusion talent. I always try the octopus but the polenta is again delicious. Always get a pasta as it is house made and get a wine recommendation. "

  • "While it is correct that most American restaurants serve too much food, Scarpetta is an exception. The quantities our party of 4 received ran from ridiculously small to appropriate. I believe we should have been told by the server that an appetizer we shared was not of a size recommended for sharing. Also, after inspecting our bottle of wine, it was opened at a side table where it remained until we asked our server what happened to the wine! Finally, we were charged for a more expensive bottle of wine. When this was pointed out to the server the mistake was corrected with no question and an apology. Please make no mistake, the food was excellent. We are big fans of Scott and Chopped, and hope he will address some of the inconsistencies."

  • "I went to Scarpetta for a special dinner last month. I had heard that the food was fantastic, and, in that respect, was not disappointed. However, the staff could not have done more to rush us through our meal. I have worked in restaurants, and lived in New York for over a decade, so I am certainly no stranger to the need to turn tables over on a weekend night. That said, we were pushed through four courses in less than an hour and a half - by wait staff who removed plates and brought the next course only a 2 minutes apart, and gave us dirty looks whenever we put our forks down between bites. The food was truly spectacular, but the rushed ambiance almost entirely spoiled a delicious meal in a beautiful and special space."

  • "Server recommendations were excellent. Perfect blend of elevated comfort, informality and specialness. Super creamy polenta. Lively chicory salad. Paired well with Vermentino. Perfectly cooked branzino filet and duck breast. Chocolate dessert finished meal with big "wow" factor. This food is thoughtful, efficient and goes right to the heart and soul of the diner. There is nothing on the plate that does not belong there. Every bite is balanced, flavorful and satisfying. Next time I'll get the pasta."

  • "Had an excellent meal. Started with mushroom polenta then had Branzino. All of the food looked great, the other people dining were a mix of young groups, couples, families which made it feel like an appropriate place to go with anyone! The waiters were a bit aggressive and made us feel a bit rushed. Nonetheless, I can't wait to go back and try more!"

  • "Two stars were for the food, creative and tasty. That’s where the positive experience ended. Did the restaurant have their staff trained in Chinatown ?? First, we weren’t fast enough with our selections. Then, more wait staff than necessary hover over you refilling your water and ready to take your dish away the moment you appear to finish. Just don’t appear to finish if you haven’t or they may quickly offer to remove the partly eaten dish in front of you. (“Are you done with that?”) Three courses in slightly over an hour in a high priced restaurant is unacceptable. Don’t try to to reflect on the food, the ambiance or engage in frivolous conversation with your fellow guests. First and last visit here."

  • "Is hovering by wait staff confused with being attentive? Diners are "allotted" 90 minutes for a $200 dinner. Thereafter, the next reservation is awaiting your table. This made dinner rather unpleasant since I was with a person who was passing through NYC en route to Zurich. I had 1/2 of my entree packaged. Left without coffee/dessert. Scarpetta is, otherwise, one of my favorite dining spots."

  • "Went with two friends to an early dinner Friday night. Just enough daylight coming down though the wood beam and glass ceiling to enhance the prettiness of the dining room. Every first course we ordered-including an extra for the table-was excellent. The creamy polenta with mushrooms and truffles smelt amazing as it was served and proved to be the dish of the evening! The duck and foie gras ravioli as a entrée also excellent. I'm not sure how other diners thought the portions were too small; we were all too full to try dessert. Service spot on and at just the right speed. Very pleased overall and will return."

  • "Had dinner for the first time at Scarpetta and so glad I chose the restaurant for our dinner of 4. The bartender Mario was great, and our waiter Brad was informative and helpful. Everything Brad suggested we ordered starting from the 4 different shared starters to the meals. My guests all raved about the food and wine and it made my trip to NYC from San Francisco and my 67th birthday a very special event. BRAVO!!! Thanks to all...it will definitely be on my list for my next trip to NYC!!"

  • "Our family loves to come here. The food is ridiculously good. It is one of the few places you can get a dish of authentic spaghetti pomodoro. It tastes just as it does in Florence. Trust me. The flavors of the dishes are inventive and delicious. We are never disappointed."

  • "Everyone on Yelp recommended spaghetti and took lots of pics of it, and even NYC celebrity chef Amanda Freitag said that's a must have during an interview, so I decided to order.......even it looks so simple and basic.......I am glad that I did! The only thing I regret was I ordered it as an appetizer and shared with my friend, I wish I could have had it as a main course. Oh and the bread before the meal is spectacular too!!! I'd go back simply for the bread & Spaghetti..."

  • "We often go into the City to take out our son and his friends. We look for upscale dining, something special that they cannot afford on their own right now. We used the Zagat book for restaurants near Chelsea. The food was good, but the waiters hovered over the table giving us no privacy at all, and the entire experience was rushed along making the patrons feel herded like cattle. We arrived at 7:00 pm and were done at 8:15. (Just in time for the next group of reservations I bet) Crowded with small tables, loud and noisy and a pushy staff. They even mixed up a couple of our orders. Why would you pay top dollar for this type of experience? With all of the wonderful choices in New York City, do not waste your money here at Scarpetta."

  • "Polenta itself creamy with strong aroma of butter, mushrooms + sauce too salty and disproportionately so much sauce that it felt like consuming soup Fritto mixto: good quality but would be minimum expected from this quality of establishment Tomato and basil spaghetti: lives up to the rave reviews Capretto: tender and overall good dish but too salty again Red snapper: recommended by maitre d' and while very nice, the tenderness and overall execution cannot compete with better elsewhere like Aquavit's Service: Staff very friendly, accommodating and non pressured. HOWEVER, cadence extremely rushed and obvious they prioritized table turnover. From seating to the check our 4 course meal was all of 1 hr 15 mins. Disappointing."

Our waiter John went out of his way to make the evening special and memorable. The wine steward recommended an excellent wine. We would definitely recommend this to any of our friends visiting NYC."

  • "Everything is amazing here, but the pasta stands out the most. My cousin was visiting NYC for her birthday and she's a big foodie, so I had to take to her a good place. Scarpetta blew our expectations. The polenta was the best we've ever had, we shared the duck and foie gras ravioli, the linguini special, and the red snapper... the fish was good, but compared to the pasta... oh man. We should have ordered 3 pasta dishes and skipped the fish! Service was incredible and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Absolutely wonderful experience.. thanks so much!"

  • "Scott really? The food was amazing but we will not return due to the price. I was so dissppointed in the Wine list. Everything was hundreds of dollars over what it should be. Don't you want your customers to enjoy great wine with your wonderful food? The cheapest bottle was $130 and anything really worth drinking was $300. It breaks my heart, but the prices so overshadowed the quality of the food that my review is all about the money. Our family of 5 spent $900 on 3 apps, 5 entrees and 3 bottles of wine. The best thing food wise was the PASTA - just go for the Pasta and a GLASS of wine and you'll be great !! P.S. I have the cook book so I guess I'll be cooking myself - (I make a mean pasta) - and dipping into my cellar."
