A word from Scarpetta
In May 2008, Chef Scott Conant opened Scarpetta in the Gansevoort Market Historic District. An Italian expression that means “little shoe” -- or the shape bread takes when used to soak up a dish -- Scarpetta represents the pure pleasure of savoring a meal down to the very last taste. The restaurant’s seasonally-inspired Italian dishes offer farm-fresh ingredients and clean, earthy flavors that pay homage to Conant’s heritage and time in Italy.

  • "Been to Miami and New York Scarpetta, both great, but personally liked NYC better. Only glitch in our evening was our first waiter who was cocky while answering a simple menu question, and just walked away while we were in conversation with him! Anyway, we asked to have someone else wait the table (Louis) and it was perfect after. Try the spaghetti (best I ever had in North America) both Tuna apps, mushroom polenta, risotto... You can pretty much not go wrong with any menu choices!! Bon appetit!"

  • "The staff was very friendly and could recommend wines for the food. The food was excellent, we were sold already by the selection of bread the waiter brought us first. A large selection of wines to choose from. The spaghetti was amazing, best I ever had. To make something so simple taste this good is really remarkable"

  • "Scarpetta is a sure thing. Always an excellent meal with wonderful atmosphere. Service was a bit inattentive this time, but the ambiance and meal made up for it. The chocolate cake is decadent and the yellow tail appetizer is a must."

  • "Scott Conant is right-he knows pasta. the spaghetti with tomato/basil, and black taglietelle were fresh and perfectly cooked. the Stromboli was amazing and the desserts were delicious. my friend particularly loved his very unusual delicious blueberry sorbet, made in-house. prefect service as well. expensive but quality."

  • "I had always wanted to check out Scott Conant's restaurant and this place did not disappoint. For 2 of us, we ordered 1 app, 2 pastas, and 1 entree to share. They always say this guy makes the best spaghetti in America and I'd say they're right. It was phenomenal. We were adventurous and tried other things, but this was the tastiest dish. The short rib app was amazing, the Lobster Pasta was ok, and the Veal was phenomenal. The waiter really tried to sell us on the goat...he said it was one of the best dishes on the menu, but if you don't like gamey foods, don't order it. It was tender and cooked well, we just didn't like the taste. The waiter let us swap the dish out for the veal that we originally wanted at no charge."

  • "Order the polenta app- it is world class. Yellowtail with sea salt also to die for. Coconut cake dessert and chocolate molten cake are both insane. Francesco took great care if us!"

  • "Excellent service. Very good food and even better wine list."

  • "From the time we arrived until we left, the staff was very attentive. The food is delicious as always, of course, Scarpetta's signature dish, spaghetti & tomato basil was wonderful! The wine selection is outstanding and we picked a nice sauvignon blanc. For a weekday it was bustling, the bar crowded. We've been here many times and it's always a dining experience."

  • "The food was top notch. Good service and fairly priced"

  • "Prices were much higher then we expected for what seemed to be a fancy neighborhood restaurant."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "Food was great, however we had at least 7 different servers/bus-boys come to our table through the dinner and it felt very impersonal. 10 minutes didn't go by without someone interrupting us and asking if we were ok or needed anything. For a meal of that price, the fact that from start to finish we were in an out of there in an hour and a half is unnaceptable in my opinion."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Best spaghetti of all time! Bread was over the top...yum! Don't skip desert. Try several! Bought the cookbook. Can't wait to dive in and try the recipes!"

  • "We came here with visitors from out of state - the food was very good - but smallish portions. Great wine list (expensive) and wait staff were excellent."

  • "We went to Scarpettas after seeing Scott on Kelly and Michael. I wish the burrata with peaches and tomatoes was on the restaurant menu. It was not, but we still had a wonderful meal. We started with the gnochetti and the had one order of Bronzino and one order of cod, finishing with a wonderful dessert,"

  • "Get the spaghetti! It will change everything you thought you knew about the dish. The Fois gras ravioli are also a must. Don't skip dessert either."

  • "Our first time at the restaurant but not our last. We asked for a table at the front for 2 and were accommodated without any problem (reservation was at 8). The tables began to fill up after 8:30 around us. The food was delicious and hot when it needed to be (pet peeve of mine when it is lukewarm) and cold when it needed to be. Fresh, quality ingredients and very good attention to detail from our waiters. We will return!"

  • "The food was fabulous, but I found the service to be haughty and too reserve for my taste. Perhaps because I was a single woman, perhaps because I was dressed too casually (had just spent a full day sightseeing), perhaps because I choose to sit in the bar area I felt that I didn't get the care and respect I would have liked and definitely paid for. That said, make sure not to turn your nose up at the simple spaghetti with tomato sauce. Perhaps the best I have ever had."

  • "My wife and I tried Scarpetta's for the first time and we were very impressed. They start you off with bread which is fantastic, could easily be its on appetizer. It's filled with focaccia, broccoli rabe, and I think pepperoni stromboli. It's served with citrus dipping oil, eggplant spread and mascarpone. Our entrees were amazing, my wife had the roasted beet ravioli and I had the duck ravioli. I could have eaten three plates it was that good. What made the night was when I placed the reservation online, I put in the notes that I was taking my wife out for a belated anniversary dinner. They went above and beyond and gave us complimentary little chocolates with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate. Go to Scarpetta's!!"

  • "Highly recommend Scarpetta for its excellent food, friendly and professional service and elegant surroundings. Our table for 4 was seated promptly and our advance request on Opentable to sit in the back room was honored (as the tables in the front near the bar are noisy). There is also some outdoor seating for nice days. The burrata and polenta appetizers were a hit, as were the lamb bolognese and striped bass for entrees. The signature spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil was definitely worth an order, the sauce sticking to the pasta perfectly and having a bit of a zip (pepper flakes?). Prices, as least for a high-end restaurant in New York, were reasonable, we would happily return."

  • "Not for the budget-conscious, but well worth the price. Everything was excellent and I'm sure we'll be back for another special occasion."

  • "Delicious Italian food! Came here on a Friday night when my parents were visiting. Had an amazing meal. Definitely recommend the pastas and apps. We had the yellow tail, octopus and the polenta. All amazing. We followed with the spaghetti, ravioli and goat. Again great. This restaurant definitely serves great food! Only complaint is that we had a 10:30pm reservation on a Friday and the place was dying down. My parents were 15 minutes late and the host was very annoyed because 'the kitchen was closing.' Don't have a 10:30 seating if the kitchen is closing! While the host was very rude, once we were seated, the server was very nice and did not rush us."

  • "The food missed the mark for me. The pastas weren't flavoursome and combinations in the mains weren't great. Overall disappointed with the experience."

  • "What an absolutely incredible dinner! From the moment we sat down, our waiter, John, was eager to help us choose a delicious meal and inform us of everything Scarpetta has to offer. He even heard us discussing another restaurant and sent over their general manager, who had previously worked at that restaurant, to converse with us. The pastas, which are all made at Scarpetta, were so fresh and flavorful. We received some complimentary cookies and moscato for dessert! Such a pleasant experience with truly refined, exciting food. I will certainly be back!"

  • "after reading some other reviews we went there to have dinner with my husband. Lovely place, good menu. We went for the snapper and polenta for appetizers, both where good. Mains the spaghetti (since I heard it was spectacular despite being something simple) and the duck ravioli. Bitht really good, not heavy at all. Good service, extremely fast service (more than we wanted) Will definitely go back and try something else."

  • "Took my cousin from out of town out to dinner...had been to Scarpetta several times. There were 5 of us and all of our entrees were amazing. Super $$$$ though. Most shocking, a Black Russian at the bar was $17!!! More expensive then one of the signature drinks. Would def come back for a special occasion."

  • "This unassuming storefront serves some of the best seafood I have ever eaten. The servers were very efficient describing all of the items on the limited seasonal menu. They are also very quick to tell you, unprompted, what to order. I felt they had been given an incentive to push certain menu items because both servers pushed the same meals/appetizers. The octopus appetizer was very tender and delicious. The burratta mozzarella was just ok. We actually left some of it uneaten. Within seconds the entrees arrived. I ordered the Bronzino and my friend had the red snapper. Both were very clean and fresh but not very hot. Our meal was ordered, served and consumed in less than 45minutes. It is obvious they want you in and out."

  • "I was a fan of scarpetta until this time. There were a number of things that were amiss that you expect from a quality restaurant. 1. Seated next to the bar instead of the main dining room despite prior reservations. 2. Table was so small that we could barely fit anything post the bread basket, I ordered less food since I did not want to juggle plates 3. Ordered my once favorite truffled mushrooms & polenta and a market veg salad. I kid you not it came out in 3 mins flat, I like fast service but this seemed fast food 4. I always order the spaghetti here which I love, however this time the sauce lacked depth of flavor that comes from cooking it for a while and the sauce had tomato seeds, bad! Unless something changes, it's on my no-go list."

  • "As the title suggests, the food is beyond amazing. However, the service left much to be desired. After being seated, we waiting 25 minutes before anyone came to say hello (other than the nice bussers who kept refilling out water). Finally a manager happened to wander by and took a drink order. A waiter eventually appeared without apology and was helpful, though pushy. After taking our order, we never saw him again. Perhaps that was for the better, no? Luckily, we were a very patient and relaxed group out for a nice meal and Scarpetta provided that in spades. The Spare Rib and Bone Marrow Angolotti was amaxing, and the Duck Breast and Fois Gras Ravioli was divine. Hallelujah!"

  • "Food is pretty good although a bit heavy. Some of the dishes had way too much cream and butter. Love the fact that they have vegetarian menu. Service on the other hand is terrible. The wait staff we had seemed completely uninterested in being there. The people bringing the food simply would drop the food on the table and wouldn't even bother explaining the food. If tipping wasn't the expected norm as it is these days I would have given a zero tip! Bottom line I would go more often if service was better."

  • "Notwithstanding that I have been there a few times, we got the "out of towner" treatment last Sunday. We were seated in the bar. When I asked whether we could sit in the main dining room, they said that no seats were available. However, we saw plenty of three tops get seated after we were shown our table. Once we were seated, it took a while for anyone to even acknowledge us. After we ordered, our food came extremely fast in an obvious effort to move us along and, I presume, free up the table. Service was inattentive and poor. Food is good but not good enough to put up with that sort of treatment. They have definitely lost my business."

  • "I have been really looking forward to this evening and sometimes that means disappointment. Not this time. Our waiter, our table and the meal was everything I had hoped it would be. Two pasta dishes and the goat. Amazing. We bought the cookbook and will have to hide it so my wife does not make every meal with the table Stromboli. If she does, I will weigh 600 pounds."

  • "I was not sure how I was going to feel about this restaurant after reading some (not many) mixed reviews, but my mind is made up! It was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! From the hostess to the dessert it was an absolute pleasure. I had the spaghetti, it was heavenly, my niece had an incredible pasta dish made with beets and pistachios, like nothing I have ever tasted. Get the olive oil cake for dessert! Possibly the best dessert I've ever eaten. The waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant. Go, you will not be disappointed."
