That polenta was simply splendid, and the short ribs were stellar. As our second course, we split the famous spaghetti. Just extraordinary.We tried the duck breast and the roast chicken. Both very good, but I think we would try something a little more exciting next time. Finally, dessert. We split a vanilla caramel budino. We now have a new favorite dessert. It was a sublime ending to our meal. Our waiter seemed a little frantic, but the entire staff was lovely. Thank you to Chef Conant for creating such a wonderful restaurant for Los Angeles, we will definitely be returning.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMScarpettaThis was my second time at Scarpetta and while the food was just as amazing as my first visit the service was severely lacking. We did not see our server for the longest time after we first sat down. Once we did finally order I do not think we saw him again. It was just very strange because my first experience at Scarpetta included outstanding food as well as service. Of course the signature Spaghetti with Tomato and Basil is delicious but I would also recommend the Kale & Ricotta Ravioli! We did the Chef's counter in the kitchen and a 12 course tasting menu with wine pairing and mock-tail pairing for the under 21 set. It was a perfect meal. The slow patched egg on polenta is heaven, as is the truffled eggs Benedict. These are both from the made to order list, which complements the only buffet I've ever admired. They know how to treat their customers what they are paying for. I've been here two times with my girlfriend, and the our server was very friendly although not as attentive as I'd wanted them to be.
As in terms of food, I ordered Herb fetuccini Carbonara, and aged sirloin of beef. Sirloin was marvelously delicious--not chewy, but soft and juicy. The grilled end of skin with savory sauce was a great mix of tastes. Along with the beef, there were some cooked veges on top which also kept my mouth busy with various flavors. Carbonara didn't seem to have too much of "guanciale" in the mix. It had too strong of herbal flavor and floury pasta that was a bit thick.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMmm, mmm, mmm!!! My bf had the sheeps milk and swiss chard raviolo and considering its $26 price tag, it appeared to be one giant raviolo when you'd otherwise want more. However, it still was delicious. Beautiful dining space - our table had a view out in the court yard. Also had a celeb sighting - Jerry Seinfeld was nearby. Impeccable service.
