  • "Really disappointed with the food here. Steak was so rare it was cold even though we had asked for medium. Fries were soaking in oil. How can you screw up fries??? Dessert (creme brulee) was blah. We left everything unfinished."

  • "We were in the mood for a slow brunch and Scarlett Begonia did not disappoint. We ordered a bunch of different items - the cinnamon roll was a hit, but you can skip the cold asparagus soup - and were impressed across the board. The ketchup was the only disappointment - I know they make it in-house, which had me excited, but it was a little too sweet and marinara-like for our taste. Definitely get drinks! The king's lemonade and scarlett peppernell were BEYOND."

  • "It is a hidden location. It is in the inner courtyard of the building, so it is not visible from the street. We sat outside. We enjoyed that very much. The food was delightful. We had to ask for a description of several ingredients. The portions were the right size. We had a child with us. There really weren't any options for kids on the menu and they did not offer us a kid's menu. The service was friendly and quick. I recommend this restaurant."

  • "Found this restaurant in the AAA magazine and enjoyed it. They pride themselves on fresh local ingredients and the dishes were very tasty: duck breast with lentils & mushrooms, and crème brulee with unusual flavors."

  • "We had a delicious meal at Scarlett Begonia. Everything was excellent and beautifully presented. Service great and the setting is charming and quiet. We ate on their lovely enclosed terrace and even though it was a cool evening, to heater made it very comfortable. I found the outdoor dinning area much more appealing than the interior. Couldn't have been happier!!"

  • "Visiting Santa Barbara for the weekend and after seeing its other reviews, we decided to try Scarlett Begonia. Great decision! We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but received outstanding service and accommodation from the moment we arrived. Fun and interesting cocktails set a delicious and relaxing tone. The food was superb! One of the best duck breasts I have ever had. In a quirky, hidden spot, but would return here in a heartbeat."

  • "We had brunch at Scarlett Begonia and everything was fantastic! We started with the coconut pineapple drinks which were delicious! We ordered maple bacon biscuits that were just awesome. My meal was the lemon ricotta pancakes, my favorite. I highly recommend Scarlett Begonia!!"

  • "Local food and uniquely prepared for a foodie's adventure. Both owner and chef came to meet with us and answered our questions about preparation and ingredients. Also try the cocktails prepared with farmer's market ingredients....a special treat. We will be back. "

  • "Though it began as a breakfast and lunch place the satisfying, seasonal and adventurous cuisine here seems to have caught on with night time diners. An ever evolving menu - featuring a prix fixe Tuesday Farmers Market dinner, uses the freshest ingredients imaginatively combined, skillfully prepared, beautiful on the plate and delicious to eat. The room is comfortable, the music is great but not dominating ; the waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive and there is also outdoor dining. Not a huge wine list, but well-chosen; also craft cocktails. The menu is not huge, but within the dishes being served on any given night Scarlett Begonia is doing some of the most creative and delicious food in town. And I haven't yet done breakfast there! "

  • "Hard to find, but once you are there, really relaxed patio seating, good food and friendly people."

  • "My wife and I were both impressed with the food. We had the kale salad (in season), the duck and the charcuterie. The service was a bit slow, but it was a very busy night."

  • "my boyfriend and I eat put 5X's a week and we have been to almost all of the restaurants in the SB area. We were disappointed with Scarlet Begonia. We had a relatively early dinner and 2X's a giant trash can was wheeled by our table...even brushing up against my arm. Why take so much trash out so early and through the restaurant? I understand that is their only way to dump trash, but waiting for the end of the night with no customers there is the way to do it. I was in the restaurant business for 22 yrs., and there is a way to do things and not do things. Their home made bread is delicious and their mussels are good. We found it very noisy and a long wait for small bites to the main course. Wine list by glass and amount was very adequate."

  • "We chose Scarlett Begonia for Mothers' Day lunch - a $52pp prix fixe menu starting with delicious almond, chocolate and regular croissants as the breads, then an appetizer and main course. Each appetizer and main course was a recognizable dish created in a creative manner, i.e. caesar salad, but with kale, bacon and other dressings, or eggs benedict with Scarlett Begonia's unique additions. Everyone at the table raved about the food and enjoyed the brunch immensely. We would happily return again."

  • "Came for Mother's Day after wanting to come for brunch for months and was more than happy with everything. It was a fixed menu, but the amount of choices really allowed you to try a little of everything, that is if who you're dining with is willing to share/split entrees with you. My mom had a great time and throughly enjoyed the fact that they gave all the mothers a little gift at the end. Can't wait to go back again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!"

  • "I went on Yelp to find somewhere for brunch, and what a great find! Such a hip little restaurant with AMAZING flavor and great service."

  • "I dined at the Scarlett Begonia for weekend brunch and I appreciated the unique options on the menu, a welcomed change from the classic eggs Benedict or omelette. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly."

  • "Brunch here was outstanding-the maple bacon biscuit was the best biscuit I have ever had in my life, and I'm from the south! Our group of six got to sit outside in the courtyard by the fountain and it was so quaint and peaceful. Everything we ordered was delicious. "

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Scarlett Begonia. My husband ordered the "On the Fly" 3-course farmer's market special menu, and I ordered from the menu. His meal was perfect for a foodie, with very special, innovative courses. I selected a delicious kale salad, and an entrée of duck breast that was outstanding. Both of our desserts were sinfully delicious. We added fun cocktails, and it all added up to a special dinner and one we hope to repeat soon. The service was outstanding, too."

  • "Although the food was tasty, the portions on two of the three courses were meager considering the price. I don't consider a sweet danish bread a course in itself and the two ricotta pancakes were smaller than small. The kale salad, on the other hand, was huge and delicious. I was very disappointed in the menu choices and the lack of beverages included in a fixed price that was over $100 after tip and tax."

  • "We were visiting Santa Barbara from out of state and wanted a lovely place to meet an old friend for Easter brunch. Did a search on open table to see what was available and after reading reviews online selected Scarlet Begonias. What a wonderful find. We were offered a set 2 course menu but for each course there were at least 7 offerings all most appealing and varied. The highlights: Eggs Benidict with crab cakes; Ricotta and Lemon pancakes , and pork belly in place of bacon. Can't wait to return. "

  • "The food is delicious, the setting is lovely, and staff' are friend and attentive to details! Plus they make the most amazing french fries you've ever tasted!! Crisp to perfection on the outside, creamy on the inside :)"

  • "We had a pre-theatre party of 8, and when 2 more wanted to join, the restaurant said no problem. An hour before our reservation, the restaurant called and asked whether we wanted to sit indoors or out. On their suggestion that it was a bit breezy, we chose indoors. We had a long table against the wall, immediate and thoughtful service throughout the meal. The pappardelle with the 63 degree egg was a delicious, sensual experience. But the charcuterie appetizer with chicken liver mousse, country pork pate, and a delightfully smooth pork pate with cinnamon and cloves was the standout event of the evening. Will definitely return to this charming restaurant steps from the theatre."

  • "Strikingly presented food with surprises in the tastes. Some (like the pate) were good, others (like the soup) ho-hum and bland. Service did not make us feel special: no server exchanged more than a half-dozen words with us. Interior is pleasant but unremarkable. Wine list is short and pourings are not generous. And yet, it's pricey. In sum: worth a try, but there's better value at other high-end places in town. And please put a dinner menu on the OpenTable Menu tab."

  • "We celebrated my husbands birthday...there were 7 of us and we had a wonderful experience! The staff was overly accommodating, friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great celebration. The food was outstanding, just fantastic! A couple of days before our reservation I ordered a birthday cake, from the restaurants bakery and it was out of this world delicious, and the decorations were so clever and spot on, loved it! I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

  • "Not sure how long this restaurant has been open, but the night we were there it seemed very disorganized, and it was t even close to full. Friend had iced tea,"sorry we don't have lemon". Really? A restaurant /bar with no lemon. Then we asked for a little more bread and were told no "because we're busy, we won't have enough". On and on... Poor service, food really wasn't good. Sorry to relate all this but we were very disappointed."

  • "We had dinner here at our final night while staying 4 days in Santa Barbara and it was by far the best. I wish we had experienced lunch or dinner because the menu looked amazing. Our dinners were all excellent, fresh ingredients, creative selections and wonderfully prepared. Service was outstanding! Make reservations!"

  • "We went for Valentines and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Food and service were outstanding. We even went back on Sunday for brunch with our kids. Great place."

  • "This is the second time for us at Scarlett Begonia - and it was Valentine's night. It wasn't a disappointment! The food was excellent, from the roasted port belly appetizer (and the chicken liver appetizer). Beautifully presented with unexpected flavorings. Entrees we picked were the bay scallops and the hanger steak - both delicious. Desserts of Valrhona chocolate pudding and vanilla ice cream didn't disappoint. The outside has a much nicer ambience than the inside tables. Only the service was a little rough - our server was young, lovely and somewhat inexperienced. Special note: Restaurants can suck the romance out of an evening by charging outrageous prices. Not so S.B. $55 per person was totally reasonable for the quality/amount."

  • "We had a great brunch to celebrate my brother turning 21! They have the most inventive cocktails and drinks beyond the usual mimosa's and bloody mary's. The "Liquid Breakfast" is a must try for all you bacon lovers! And the food was delicious! Shrimp and grits, lemon ricotta pancakes and maple bacon biscuits are a must! I really wanted to try everything on the menu. Reservations is highly recommended on weekends cause it's a popular spot for brunch so the wait can be long without a reservation. I wish I lived closer to SB so I can eat here more often!"

  • "We sat outside in the courtyard (with heaters & movies playing on the wall) and although it was by another restaurant's kitchen, we didn't hear much noise from it, but when we did someone was quick to tell the kitchen to quiet down, very nice! The menu was a prix fixe menu, a bit pricey (for Valentines Day) which they didn't mention when I made the reservation, but it was really great; a lot of GOOD food for the price. The food: I had the kale salad, which was divine and although I really didn't eat the bacon at the bottom, it did give the salad a nice flavor. For the main course I ordered the hangar steak and it was PERFECT!!! But the topper was their panna cotta, which was the best any of our party of four had ever had! We will be back!!"

  • "We went on Valenine's Day and had a selection of 3 courses with ample option choices. We had the Scallops and the Duck breast. Both were delicious. The staff was friendly and the timing of bringing out the next course was perfect. Thanks for this special jewel in our community."

  • "We celebrated my sister's 50th birthday last weekend for two days in Santa Barbara. Dinner at this restaurant, once we found it, was just DELISH. We had appetizers and dinners including carrot soup, roasted brussels sprouts, pork belly and more. The wait staff was wonderful and sitting in the outside patio was lovely. It was chilly out but those patio heaters will keep you WARM! We will certainly return again and will refer our friends to Scarlett Begonia :-)"

  • "Excellently prepared and innovative Cal-Med dishes that are satisfying and delicious. All the food was locally sourced and expertly prepared in a sensible way. Service was competent an attentive without being overbearing. Indoor dining room is small creating a cozy welcoming and quiet atmosphere for dining."

  • "The good news is, Santa Barbara has a lot of restaurants. The bad news is, many of them seem to cater to tourists. In other words, they are OK but often formulaic. Scarlett Begonia is a breath of fresh air for SB, and one of the best kept secrets in the 'foodie' end of the local restaurant scene. The menu is fairly short, but everything they do is both creative and tastes fantastic. The restaurant is not easily seen from the street, as its tucked into the inner courtyard of the Victoria Court shopping area. But for locals that know their way around downtown, and weekenders that care about a great meal, the location really isn't that heard to find. This is one of Santa Barbara's best, and worth putting on your foodie restaurant list."

  • "I dined at this restaurant with a co worker and we both absolutely enjoyed the ambience. The patio is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of State Street and with unique boutiques all around, it feels like a mini get away!"

  • "Have now been here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and it is always outstanding. We don't even live in Santa Barbara, but it is on our go to list whenever we are in town. No place like it. And the service rocks also."

  • "Several years ago, my husband and I wandered down the labryinth where Scarlett Begonia is tucked away alongside cute shops and boutiques. We were quickly seated and quickly discovered the amazingness that is Scarlett Begonia. Everything on the menu is fresh, locally sourced and in several cases housemade. Literally everything on the menu is delicious - but our favorite thing is the bacon maple scone. The rest of the menu changes often, but they always have incredible fresh squeezed juices - including an heirloom tomato juice which we enjoyed last week. Fresh is always better and they do an incredible job of preserving local ingredients. The staff is friendly and attentive. A trip to SB wouldn't be complete without a stop to Scarlette B!"
