In search of the best thing to put into my body, normally restaurant dining is not the thing that comes to mind. But when taking my girlfriend out for her birthday, I found this restaurant under the tag, organic & sustainable. SOLD. That's what I need to know. After clicking through the website and reading the About Us portion and seeing that healthy, organic, and season - which is the key here, was the type of dining I was looking for. The service was wonderful to top it off. Thank you!

My husband and I had breakfast here and enjoyed everything we ordered. I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was tasty and delicious. I wish I could've finished it all but it was rich. My husband (who loves meat) ordered the soft scrambled eggs thinking "how good can scrambled eggs be?" and ordered a side of sausage. To our surprise the omelette was probably the best one we've had. The gouda made it nice and creamy. Didn't even need to order the side of sausage. Although that was flavorful too. He even got a side of pancakes. These were yummy. It was like eating a cake that was hearty. And the jam that it came with complimented it well. We asked for extra jam and butter. He managed to finish all his food even though he was completely stuffed.

The ambiance is amazing. Outdoor dining at its best. Customer service was excellent, the menu changes constantly to keep up with seasonal items (which is great). The appetizers/entrees were spaced out sufficiently to give us a chance to enjoy the experience. We started with the mussels on crostini... Yummm! The Niman Ranch Cheeseburgers were delicious, (bacon jam/goat cheese/brioche) along with the homemade french fries/ketschup... Also, their homemade bread with butter was amazing. Very flavorful, and an overall great dining experience. Definitely recommended, and will done here again and again.

I tried this place for the 2nd time because I was not sure after the first. It seems overpriced--I go to a lot of expensive restaurants but this one just seems a bit too much. The food is excellent, but the service is average. The servers seemed confused over who was supposed to do what and where. There are a lot of great restaurants in SB where I have an excellent experience, so I will not be returning here.

Tucked off of State Street, this is a small restaurant with a nice outdoor patio. The menu was interesting, fresh, local. I had a terrific kale salad, and my husband loved his eggplant dish. We split the burger which came with goat cheese on top, and would have been great except that it was way too rare inside (we ordered medium). All in all a very good dinner, and we will be back.

I was there for late (10:30am)Thursday morning breakfast with my wife and daughter. I arrived about ten minutes before the rest of the party and enjoyed a quiet cup of $4. coffee. To my distraught the table across from us was vacant but dishes remained for well over half an hour before the table was made presentable for next occupant. Attempted to order "Biscuit Sampler" but it was unavailable. We did enjoy the scrambled eggs w/spinach & fingerling potatoes as well as french toast, and lemon ricotta pancakes. The waiter was pleasant but should never take one's credit card and then talk for fifteen minutes to the adjoining table before bring me the receipt.

  • Tuesdays Menu The Best

The Chef @ Scarlett Begonia goes shopping on Tuesdays at the local Farmer's Market. Whatever products capture his interest, he purchases. At the restaurant that evening, he prepares a new recipe from those products. The Farmers Market Special is a prix-fixe 3 course meal (salad, entree, dessert, & special cocktail) for a nominal $35 charge. Service is excellent. And a different movie is screened on an outside wall of the patio dining area each evening. We've enjoyed two Tuesdays at Scarlett Begonia and have decided the Farmers Market Special is a must-have meal. We'll be back.

This place is very understated. First of all if you have not had there bacon maple biscuits you have not lived. This is a morning treat. We decided to try them for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. We ate out in the courtyard and it was very pleasant. My wife start out with Cariar lime gimlet. She loved it. We next had crispy chicken wings that were very tasty. We both had their Manila clams with sausage and red? beans. Delicious, we both agreed that it is a do again dish. Great place!

We ordered olives and bread to start, and several small plates to share for dinner. People that came in after us got served. We were polite, and after 35 minutes asked 2 waiters if we could get the olives and bread to start. We asked about the wine list, the waiter offered us a taste. We wanted to order a bottle. He never came back. After 40 minutes (no not kidding) we got olives. Then 5 minutes later bread and all the small plates at once. There was no room on the table (as all came at once). The food was cold. The waiter offered to comp us the bread ($2.00). The food, other than being cold, was flavorful. Clams in broth - delicious. Vegetarians and Pescatarians, not many options for you at Scarlett Begonia.

We were in the mood for a slow brunch and Scarlett Begonia did not disappoint. We ordered a bunch of different items - the cinnamon roll was a hit, but you can skip the cold asparagus soup - and were impressed across the board. The ketchup was the only disappointment - I know they make it in-house, which had me excited, but it was a little too sweet and marinara-like for our taste. Definitely get drinks! The king's lemonade and scarlett peppernell were BEYOND.

It is a hidden location. It is in the inner courtyard of the building, so it is not visible from the street. We sat outside. We enjoyed that very much. The food was delightful. We had to ask for a description of several ingredients. The portions were the right size. We had a child with us. There really weren't any options for kids on the menu and they did not offer us a kid's menu. The service was friendly and quick. I recommend this restaurant.

We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but received outstanding service and accommodation from the moment we arrived. Fun and interesting cocktails set a delicious and relaxing tone. Though it began as a breakfast and lunch place the satisfying, seasonal and adventurous cuisine here seems to have caught on with night time diners. An ever evolving menu - featuring a prix fixe Tuesday Farmers Market dinner, uses the freshest ingredients imaginatively combined, skillfully prepared, beautiful on the plate and delicious to eat. The room is comfortable, the music is great but not dominating ; the waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive and there is also outdoor dining. Not a huge wine list, but well-chosen; also craft cocktails. The menu is not huge, but within the dishes being served on any given night Scarlett Begonia is doing some of the most creative and delicious food in town. And I haven't yet done breakfast there!

my boyfriend and I eat put 5X's a week and we have been to almost all of the restaurants in the SB area. We were disappointed with Scarlet Begonia. We had a relatively early dinner and 2X's a giant trash can was wheeled by our table...even brushing up against my arm. Why take so much trash out so early and through the restaurant? I understand that is their only way to dump trash, but waiting for the end of the night with no customers there is the way to do it. I was in the restaurant business for 22 yrs., and there is a way to do things and not do things. Their home made bread is delicious and their mussels are good. We found it very noisy and a long wait for small bites to the main course. Wine list by glass and amount was very adequate.

Came for Mother's Day after wanting to come for brunch for months and was more than happy with everything. It was a fixed menu, but the amount of choices really allowed you to try a little of everything, that is if who you're dining with is willing to share/split entrees with you. My mom had a great time and throughly enjoyed the fact that they gave all the mothers a little gift at the end. Can't wait to go back again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

We chose Scarlett Begonia for Mothers' Day lunch - a $52pp prix fixe menu starting with delicious almond, chocolate and regular croissants as the breads, then an appetizer and main course. Each appetizer and main course was a recognizable dish created in a creative manner, i.e. caesar salad, but with kale, bacon and other dressings, or eggs benedict with Scarlett Begonia's unique additions. Everyone at the table raved about the food and enjoyed the brunch immensely. We would happily return again.
