Scarlett Begonia will always strive to have interesting, thoughtful food.
Menus change weekly with an innovative fresh look at breakfast and lunch and dinner. Cocktails and appetizers begin at 4:30pm Tuesday thru Saturday nights with full dinner service from 5:30pm to 9:00pm, with breakfast and lunch running 9am-2pm Tuesday thru Sunday. It is our goal to provide Santa Barbara with a restaurant that showcases progressive modern food, using sustainable, organic, high quality ingredients coupled with innovative cooking to be one of the most food-centric restaurants around.

  • "We had a pre-theatre party of 8, and when 2 more wanted to join, the restaurant said no problem. An hour before our reservation, the restaurant called and asked whether we wanted to sit indoors or out. On their suggestion that it was a bit breezy, we chose indoors. We had a long table against the wall, immediate and thoughtful service throughout the meal. The pappardelle with the 63 degree egg was a delicious, sensual experience. But the charcuterie appetizer with chicken liver mousse, country pork pate, and a delightfully smooth pork pate with cinnamon and cloves was the standout event of the evening. Will definitely return to this charming restaurant steps from the theatre."

  • "Strikingly presented food with surprises in the tastes. Some (like the pate) were good, others (like the soup) ho-hum and bland. Service did not make us feel special: no server exchanged more than a half-dozen words with us. Interior is pleasant but unremarkable. Wine list is short and pourings are not generous. And yet, it's pricey. In sum: worth a try, but there's better value at other high-end places in town. And please put a dinner menu on the OpenTable Menu tab."

  • "We celebrated my husbands birthday...there were 7 of us and we had a wonderful experience! The staff was overly accommodating, friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great celebration. The food was outstanding, just fantastic! A couple of days before our reservation I ordered a birthday cake, from the restaurants bakery and it was out of this world delicious, and the decorations were so clever and spot on, loved it! I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

  • "Not sure how long this restaurant has been open, but the night we were there it seemed very disorganized, and it was t even close to full. Friend had iced tea,"sorry we don't have lemon". Really? A restaurant /bar with no lemon. Then we asked for a little more bread and were told no "because we're busy, we won't have enough". On and on... Poor service, food really wasn't good. Sorry to relate all this but we were very disappointed."

  • "We had dinner here at our final night while staying 4 days in Santa Barbara and it was by far the best. I wish we had experienced lunch or dinner because the menu looked amazing. Our dinners were all excellent, fresh ingredients, creative selections and wonderfully prepared. Service was outstanding! Make reservations!"

  • "This is the second time for us at Scarlett Begonia - and it was Valentine's night. It wasn't a disappointment! The food was excellent, from the roasted port belly appetizer (and the chicken liver appetizer). Beautifully presented with unexpected flavorings. Entrees we picked were the bay scallops and the hanger steak - both delicious. Desserts of Valrhona chocolate pudding and vanilla ice cream didn't disappoint. The outside has a much nicer ambience than the inside tables. Only the service was a little rough - our server was young, lovely and somewhat inexperienced. Special note: Restaurants can suck the romance out of an evening by charging outrageous prices. Not so S.B. $55 per person was totally reasonable for the quality/amount."

  • "We had a great brunch to celebrate my brother turning 21! They have the most inventive cocktails and drinks beyond the usual mimosa's and bloody mary's. The "Liquid Breakfast" is a must try for all you bacon lovers! And the food was delicious! Shrimp and grits, lemon ricotta pancakes and maple bacon biscuits are a must! I really wanted to try everything on the menu. Reservations is highly recommended on weekends cause it's a popular spot for brunch so the wait can be long without a reservation. I wish I lived closer to SB so I can eat here more often!"

  • "We sat outside in the courtyard (with heaters & movies playing on the wall) and although it was by another restaurant's kitchen, we didn't hear much noise from it, but when we did someone was quick to tell the kitchen to quiet down, very nice! The menu was a prix fixe menu, a bit pricey (for Valentines Day) which they didn't mention when I made the reservation, but it was really great; a lot of GOOD food for the price. The food: I had the kale salad, which was divine and although I really didn't eat the bacon at the bottom, it did give the salad a nice flavor. For the main course I ordered the hangar steak and it was PERFECT!!! But the topper was their panna cotta, which was the best any of our party of four had ever had! We will be back!!"

  • "We celebrated my sister's 50th birthday last weekend for two days in Santa Barbara. Dinner at this restaurant, once we found it, was just DELISH. We had appetizers and dinners including carrot soup, roasted brussels sprouts, pork belly and more. The wait staff was wonderful and sitting in the outside patio was lovely. It was chilly out but those patio heaters will keep you WARM! We will certainly return again and will refer our friends to Scarlett Begonia :-)"

  • "The good news is, Santa Barbara has a lot of restaurants. The bad news is, many of them seem to cater to tourists. In other words, they are OK but often formulaic. Scarlett Begonia is a breath of fresh air for SB, and one of the best kept secrets in the 'foodie' end of the local restaurant scene. The menu is fairly short, but everything they do is both creative and tastes fantastic. The restaurant is not easily seen from the street, as its tucked into the inner courtyard of the Victoria Court shopping area. But for locals that know their way around downtown, and weekenders that care about a great meal, the location really isn't that heard to find. This is one of Santa Barbara's best, and worth putting on your foodie restaurant list."

  • "Several years ago, my husband and I wandered down the labryinth where Scarlett Begonia is tucked away alongside cute shops and boutiques. We were quickly seated and quickly discovered the amazingness that is Scarlett Begonia. Everything on the menu is fresh, locally sourced and in several cases housemade. Literally everything on the menu is delicious - but our favorite thing is the bacon maple scone. The rest of the menu changes often, but they always have incredible fresh squeezed juices - including an heirloom tomato juice which we enjoyed last week. Fresh is always better and they do an incredible job of preserving local ingredients. The staff is friendly and attentive. A trip to SB wouldn't be complete without a stop to Scarlette B!"

She was cheerful and was ready to answer questions and gave us good descriptions and didn't make us feel rushed. The serving sizes were moderate. The egg dishes were excellent. The lemon ricotta pancakes were very good although not quite as wonderful as I had hoped. If we visited Santa Barbara again we would return!"

  • "We had been to brunch and found the food interesting and delicious. Our first dinner was even better. The scallops were perfectly cooked with interesting touches and presentation. We also had their incredible cheeseburger which I believe is the best in town. Yes, I am a foodie and I love delicious hamburgers and this was just that. We sat outside and the setting is beautiful, quiet and romantic. We felt we might have been in Italy in our gorgeous outdoor patio."

The service was friendly and enthusiastic, but with hiccups - our main course arrived long before our cocktail pairing. The food was enjoyable, but with some hiccups - the olive oil cake for dessert was a bit dry, for instance. The cocktail pairing was a fun idea, but one of the cocktails tasted like it had been made with limeade. But, don't let these small things dissuade you from coming. The dining room is cozy and inviting, and everything adds up to a wonderful dining experience."

The menu offered a nice mix of adventurous/foodie choices and twists on the ordinary.   • "We have enjoyed Scarlett's amazing breakfast on several occasions; it is exceptional. Must start with liquid breakfast, an orange juice concoction highlighted with maple bourbon. Limon ricotta pancakes and shrimp & grits shows the diversity of the menu but the first thing to order are maple biscuits - insane. We brought a group of 15 for dinner and it was equally wonderful. We tried nearly half the menu and nothing failed to meet our elevated expectations. From the burger, to the squid, to the fried chicken to the pretzel appetizer, the food is complex and delicious. And the service is joyful. And end you dinner with a blizzard."

Observent wait staff, well prepared cocktails, uncommon menu options and a wonderful dessert selection (my wife would not share)! We arrived at 7 and reluctantly departed at 11. The atmosphere was relaxed with the impression that you can stay as long as you want, a very European concept. All four of us ordered a different appetizer, salad and main course. Two of us did order the same dessert, the "blizzard" (again, not shared). This is a great restaurant for brilliant food and an unhurried evening. On a side note, the clients told us they returned for breakfast the next day and were equally impressed."

The oysters were a little on the small side but Scarlett B really knows how to garnish and kick up the flavor. Home made warm bread served on a tree bark, was a nice touch with salted butter. The hamburger with duck egg was excellent. This was our second time there and have enjoyed it each time."
