  • "I planned on eating last minute in the theater district and went on open table for reservations. I found this restaurant and was so pleasantly surprised to have a delicious meal with great ambiance. The food was fantastic and the waiter was friendly. I would definately go back there again!!"

  • "Great pre-theater choice. The food was excellent and we had a very short wait for entrees."

  • "Went here before a Broadway show. They did a great job of making sure we made it to the show on time. The atomsphere is nice, though it was pretty loud. The food was all around of poor quality. Everything was extremely salty and most of our entrees tasted as though they were made ahead and reheated. Nothing was good, some of it was downright awful. It is hard to find good food on a Friday night before a show in the Theatre district, but best to look elsewhere."

  • "This place never let's me down. The food was amazing. Our waiter Diego was excellent. You can't beat the price for what you are getting. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Attractive, quiet place for lunch before the theater. Spaghetti carbonara was so creamy and delicious. Nice find that was tasty food and convenient."

  • "Two out of eight got not so great food. The chicken palliard was rubbery and tasteless. They need to jazz up their prix fixe lunch menu! They have had the same thing on it for years! They need some specials on it! The desserts were excellent as was the service!"

  • "There are few restaurants in the therater district that actually offer good food. I am a seasoned New Yorker and have been going to this restsaurant for years. never disappointed. My date & I had homemade pasta which was excellent. Salads are great and service was exceptional."

  • "Dined at Scarlatto twice in two weeks, once on a Friday night and once on a Saturday night, both times pre theatre. Our first meal the waiter was missing most of the time. They employ many, many more bus boys than they do wait staff. Our plates were always on the verge of being cleared but if we wanted another glass of wine we had to flag down our waiter. The second night we ate here the waiter was much more attentive. The food is good but nothing special. The restaurant has a nice ambience and is not too loud. A good choice for pre dinner dining."

  • "Very solid choice for pre-theater dining. The prix fixe menu has good choices; chicken with greens is a generous and tasty portion. Other options include pasta and branzino (natch). Caesar salad is a good starter (not overly creamy). A friend had the meatball appetizer and the 2 meatballs were huge! Enough for a dinner..."

  • "We were seated at 6:50 and our waiter told us we did not have time to have the three course prix fixe. Our entree came to us in 10 minutes and we had dessert in 15. We wind up paying the same price and not having a appetizer. We won't be returning here. Every other restaurant we visit in the theater district serves us three courses within an hour."

  • "I wanted a nice meal in a pleasant atmosphere, that was handy to the Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway where I had attended a show. Scarlatta, which is just a brief walk away, fit the bill on all counts. Servers and other staff were welcoming and gracious; I loved my Linguini con Vongole; and the room had a casual elegance to it that was very comfortable. I was quite pleased overall."

  • "We had a reservation for eight and though at first I was disappointed that we had a table upstairs, which is not as attractively decked out as the downstairs, we had excellent service. The food is good and there is a pretty good wine list which our fussy group appreciated. One glitch was that my entrée was lost and it didn't get delivered until every one else had finished theirs! The waiter seemed somewhat surprised that I didn't want it then but he assured me it would be taken off the bill, which it was. Bottom line, a place has to be pretty good if everyone have a good time even when the host doesn't get fed!"

  • "Did not disappoint. Pre-theater dinner and the food was delicious. They got us in and out but we never felt like they were rushing us. Dinner was delicious! As a vegetarian, I stick to the pasta entrees and theirs were outstanding. A little noisy, but it was a Saturday night before the theater in the theater district. Everywhere is noisy! Prices very reasonable too. Highly recommend it!"

  • "This has become our per-theater restaurant of choice. We have gone there a number of times now and have never disappointed. This week we brought our friends Tom & Sue, who are also regular city visitors, for their first visit to Scarlatto's and they loved it as well. The food was excellent, the service good, but not rushed, as we were seated at 6:15 and out by just after 7:30, perfect timing for an 8:00 curtain time. We will all be back again."

  • "We had a fantastic experience dining at Scarlatto. The food was delicious, but our service was even better. I was there with my mother and my 13 year old niece (who was visiting NYC for the first time). My niece was thrilled that we had decided to go with Italian as she is a huge fan of anything Alfredo. She was so disappointed when she read the menu and discovered nothing came in an Alfredo sauce. We asked our server if it would be possible to have something special ordered. Not a problem! The chef whipped her up a nice Fettuccine Alfredo that was delicious. (My niece declared it the best she'd ever had.) It made her feel so special to have them make her something that wasn't even on the menu."

  • "Although I have visited NYC many ,many times over the last 10 years this was the first time I visited this restaurant. I'm asking myself what took me so long?! What a wonderful dining experience . Great staff, service and food . I will definitely be returning to Scarlatta when I return to NYC in 2 months. I highly recommend this establishment ."

  • "Beautiful Tuscan feel with brick wall and travertine columns. Pretty set tables with Italian striped tablecloths I remember from my childhood growing up in an Italian home. Service was very attentive. The braised octopus was outstanding. Many choices from the regular menu to the prix fix menu to the specials. Loved the parsley pesto . A must return to place. Right in the theater district."

  • "Although our 6PM reservation was made weeks in advance we were seated at the top of the stairs sandwiched between a wait station (water, silverware, etc.) and another table of 4. Main floor dining room is nicer. Waiter very friendly, but had too many tables and could not keep up. Had to skip dessert (pre-ordered on Prix-Fix) and pay check to get to show. Waiter delivered spoons, 5 mins passed, but no dessert; we asked for check instead. Appetizers & salads overpriced. Pastas & Entrees priced fairly. Beet salad very salty, Mussels good, special Mozzarella+ app nice, but $$. Bronzini, potatoes & broccoli good, but plain. Short Rib Ravioli greasy. Scalopini very lemony, but good. Steak special huge! tasty $$$. Good Italian for Times Square."

  • "Cant remember the last time I had a 3-course meal in Midtown Manhattan that included veal, salad, bread AND dessert for $30, but their pre theater menu not only fit the bill, but was delicious, too. Try the raspberry Bellini....fantastic, as were the desserts."

  • "A disappointment all around. The food was mediocre and our server was rude. Patrons were turned away before 11 p.m. in the theatre district. We'll choose a different restaurant in the future."

  • "Compared to all of the NYC Italian dining rooms / kitchens, this one is right down the middle. Good not great food, but steady and familiar. Service was fine, but not exceptional. Good for out of town families or couples on a budget before a show as this place is very reasonable compared to many other NYC restaurants. Basically, a "better" Olive Garden."

  • "We went to Scarlatto's for a pre-theater dinner. The food was good; I recommend the restaurant for that reason. However, the wait staff was abrupt and impatient as if bothered by all the people there. The waiter took a drink order, but refused to take orders for appetizers until we were ready to place our full order. When we asked questions on the menu, he had a pained looked on his face; he really did not want to spend more than seconds at our table. As for the servers and other wait staff, they were running around as quickly, practically dropping the plates onto our table. With tip, our bill for 3 was $222; we were there an hour and 15 minutes. We left a $44 tip. The wait staff should treat us as guests, not units of production."

  • "It was a mostly good experience. However, we'd hoped to enjoy a drink and conversation as dinner was prepared, but dinner came in less than 10 minutes. It really interrupted the pace of our meal experience. The noise level was a bit high too."

  • "This is one of my favorite Theater area restaurants. The food is always excellent, hot, served well, in a clean restaurant with an A rating. If you like crab cakes order the appetizer."

  • "Friends had recommended this restaurant for pre-theater. I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed. Firstly, it is way too crowded and the tables are too close for comfort. I had a reservation but they sat us upstairs right next to an emergency exit door which kept opening on its own. It was freezing and I had to keep my coat on. We requested a different table but were not given one. It was down hill from there. The bread was awful, cold and hard. My veal dish was mediocre and didn ot come with any side dishes. The servers were not very concerned with providing a high level of service or satisfaction. Perhps when one is in a hurry pre-theater, this place serves a purpose, but I will never return."

  • "The food was really delicious. Having a conscientious, capable and friendly waiter made our visit there the highlight of the evening. We were there with a couple from upstate and we couldn't have been prouder of the experience Scarlotto's afforded them. Thank you!"

  • "Beware that menu prices at the Resturant are significantly higher then what their web site says. When we called about it, the person answering the phone said that they "switch prices of all menu items on certain days" without warning."

  • "Primarily for theater district diners. Food is better than expected. During peak hours the restaurant is very noisy and crowded. Staff try to accommodate the time constraints of the diners to get to the curtain on time."
