  • "Besides overall being a wonderful experience, the hospitality of the staff and ownership is outstanding, a restaurant that I would highly recommend and will return often."

  • "My Fiancée and I were down in the Belmar area and decided to eat here! What a great decision that was! The restaraunt is beautiful to look at, has a great feel around it! The service was exceptional, they really knew what they were doing! And the food? Well coming from a chef, all ready, it was fabulous, appetizers through dessert was great! Will absolutely go back and I've all ready made recomendations!"

  • "Everything was good until we got our entrees, the steak was overcooked and flavorless. However, the staff were very accommodating and courteous. We will probably give it one more try"

  • "We loved the quiet romantic setting which we were looking for. The food was done to perfection. We didn't feel rushed and enjoyed our evening out. The waitress and busboy added to the ambiance with their respectful treatment of our wanting a private time together."

  • "The waiter was extremely friendly, jovial, pleasant and a pleasure to deal with. The busboy/water boy was a attentive to our every need. The food was beyond compare....hats off to the chef....I tried food I had never eaten before and I was very pleased....we will definitely be coming back..."

  • "I never imagined that such a restaurant could exist on Rt 35! My wife and I reserved an 'alcove' for dining. It was quiet and super romantic. Our server was pleasant and found the just the right measure of attention and privacy. The food was absolutely spectacular. Appetizers, entrees and dessert were equally delicious. The restaurant I've been to in a long time."

  • "Scarborough Fair has great ambiance, a cordial and attentive staff, but the food left much to be desired. We went on a quiet weekday night and had our choice of the alcove seating options, which was a key reason we went there for a nice birthday dinner. The meal started off with a tasty amuse bouche, courtesy of the chef, so our expectations were high. However, the lobster bisque appetizer was served too hot, and it was lacking any lobster, or lobster flavor. A scallop entree was also flavorless. The filet magnon was OK, but a bit peppery. The best course was a shared dark chocolate desert. I doubt if we will return."

  • "It was a very nice experience for my first time at the restaurant. I found the wild-caught salmon bisque quite delicious. The wild boar sausage was also good, but a little over-cooked. The sole francaise was very good. A couple glasses of the sauvignon blanc went well with these courses. The wine list is well-balanced and compliments the food. The food may not be over-imaginative or sophisticated, but it was a very solid and tasty experience. I'd say the food is 4 stars, just."

  • "From the moment we walked in and the half-dead hostess barely greeted us to the horrible bar and waiter service this was a disaster. At one point a second waiter came to us and asked for our order, we explained we had a waiter and she then told us she was helping him. From the moment they presented our entrees, no one ever checked on us other than the bus boy - who was the most attentive of all! 30 minutes after our entree plates were removed, I had to track down the waiter for our bill, never mind asking us if we wanted coffee or dessert! Truly a disappointment."

  • "With this restaurant. It is our go-to place for special occasions or whenever we just want to feel special. The menu is diverse - beef, seafood, poultry and vegetarian. They have a well appointed, but reasonably priced wine list. The food is well prepared and wonderfully presented. Every seat feels like a private corner in this establishment. The staff is Uber-attentive, without being overbearing. We came for a 6:00 reservation, left at 9 and never felt rushed. Highly recommended, especially if there is someone you want to impress with your good taste."

  • "We booked this place expecting a romantic experience based on being ranked in Opentable's top 10 romantic restaurants and being billed as the most romantic restaurant in New Jersey. The setting and ambiance lends itself to be a romantic spot right away as your park. We booked the dining alcove and it was intimate and private. There are only six from my count s you should ask for it when you reserve. The service was warm and friendly. The food was very good but nothing surprising. The calamari was a big serving but the tuna was in the small side. We had the specials - oxtail with risotto and the veal porterhouse. Both meats were cooked wonderfully. The risotto was ok. The apple pie dessert was good."

  • "Being a manager of another restaurant I cannot help but to notice performance errors. The waiter was impersonable and stayed to business conversation, nothing friendly, and that was at a very low volume. We had to wait too long after being seated for him to approach the table. He didn't greet us, nor tell us his name. We had to ask about the specials. Even though the restaurant was not busy, he seemed to be not able to concentrate on more than one table at a time, as we had to wait for drink refills and for plates to be cleared although he passed us while taking care of other tables numerous times. He never checked on us after serving the food. It was a special occasion, and I do not know if the waiter knew, but he never mentioned it."

  • "We went the day after Valentine's. It was hideously decorated. A merry-go-round hanging with hearts from the ceiling in the room we were seated. Menu looked good but execution was lacking. I had the lobster bisque, too thick and flavorless. Husband had bison sausage, was very good but cider mustard did not stick to it. I had Rack of Lamb with very little dusting of pineollis. Mustard should have been coating the lamb not plopped on. It was cooked to order, sides were inedible. Rice was cold and dry.Husband had special rack of veal ,very tender and good. Wait staff was not up to the standards I expect at a restaurant in this price range. Our server appeared to have been in the biz for a long time she made many annoying serving mistakes."

  • "After many years of passing it by......... I wish I hadn't. My husband and I Went for Valentine's Day it was wonderful. Scarborough Fair has a wonderful romantic atmosphere. It's like stumbling onto a hidden garden cottage. Soon as you enter there are many cozy tables for 2 with more hidden corners as you continue further in. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. We went from appetizers to dessert and never had a complaint anywhere along the way. This is defiantly a place we will be going back to again and again."

  • "I really want to give this place another try. Definitely needs better organizational skills, and don't stick a couple next to a group of people. Put all couples on one side of restaurant. Food was bland, risotto was rice, crunchy uncooked rice. Beautiful and romantic for sure."

  • "On arrival seriously overbooked. We were early but with a 7:30 pm reservation we were not seated until 8 20 PM in an unused alcove. However the wait staff was great and to food excellent."

  • "Great good and service. Waited 50 minutes for table and adjoining table extremely loud. Would have been appreciated if staff asked table to be considerate of others."

  • "I can't say much more than I have already said in past reviews. This is a wonderful restaurant that provides a wonderful dining experience with spectacular service. I am never disappointed when I dine at Scarborough Fair. My wife and I dine there often. Michael always does an awesome job decorating. We happened to go this past Friday night (January 31) and it was decorated for Valentine's Day. There was definitely a romantic vibe in the air. If you want to dine someplace with a warm atmosphere, wonderful food and drinks and a great and attentive staff, make sure you dine at Scarborough Fair!"

  • "I don't know what has happened to this place, but I think it will be a long time before we go back. Service was poor, food was well below expectations. We have been there 10-15 times within the past year and not even a nod from the host, wait staff or owner."

  • "The Open Table reviewers were absolutely right when this was voted as one of the most romantic restaurants at the NJ shore. It is such a special place if you get the right seating. There are several spots in the restaurant where you are sitting alone on a platform and you feel like you are dining alone. The lighting is beautiful and the large windows overlook the property which was especially beautiful the night we were there because it was snow covered. And even though it was 15 degrees out, there was heating along the wall right under the window. Not sure if all these private areas had heat in that I saw a few people with coats on. The food was very good and plentiful. Service was very attentive. Definitely recommend this place."

  • "We've been going to this restaurant a long time. Always consistently good and a restaurant you will be happy to bring visiting out of towners because it's intimate and food is eclectic and delicious. You can always count on a lovely time."

  • "Very nice place to go for a Romantic Dinner. Our food was good, although i don't believe my husbands Grouper Dinner was fresh. He did not enjoy his meal. Just not the place to go for a fish dinner."

  • "Overall everything was good. The service was perfect even though you guys were PACKET and the food was good and of course the place is beautiful. We sat all the way on the bottom, right by the door it was FREEZING. As we started to eat we NOTICED one of the guest were staring at us. (He was just leaning on the railing facing us.) After this went on for 15-20 min. I finally yelled I hate when people stare when your eating. maybe u should expand the curtain to avoid this in the future. Then person that sat above us took off there shoes and I smelled FEET. The only thing I would say is to block that gap."

  • "We ate here for New Years Eve and I'm pretty indifferent about this place. We made a reservation for 2 and got the worst table in the restaurant. Our table was in the bar shoved against the wall. There were people coming in and out of the bar. It became very packed at one point and people's behinds we literally in our faces. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. The menu was a pre-set menu but the chef allowed me to order off the main menu. For the appetizer we had the brie almondine which was amazing! For dinner I had horseradish encrusted grouper which was good too. My boyfriend had pistachio encrusted salmon and he loved it. Overall the food was pretty good but the experience was cruddy."

  • "Scarborough Fair has become our "spot" for Christmas dinner. Even though they're one of the few restaurants open on Christmas, they don't cut corners or a limited menu, but provide full and friendly service just the same as on regular days. As always the food is great (the NY strip was exceptional) and the service friendly and efficient."

  • "I was here for the first time just two months ago, and I loved the food and atmosphere. This is a 1700s farm house which was converted. The woodwork and architecture are beautiful. We came this time with my high school girl friends. They had never been here, but loved everything about the experience. The only minus this time was our waitress. Note: she did not write anything down, We had to wait almost 15 minutes for the bread which she said was in the oven heating up, and we had to ask twice before we got it. She got one of our entrees wrong, and one of our desserts wrong. We couldn't find her to get more milk for the coffee, and by the time we did, the coffee was cold. It took at least another 10 minutes to get the new coffee and milk."

  • "New to the shore area? Don't overlook this classic castle nestled off the beaten path, drenched in charm, uniqueness, and elegance. Very romantic and relaxing atmosphere with a Vermont feel reminding me of simpler times when dining was valued beyond food chains. You must go....the duck is THE best ever I've had at the shore area!! Don't forget the escargot appetizer baked in a filo dough. Next door you'll find a cottage selling yummy chocolate in a very quaint setting. Most of all- drench your soul in a relaxing atmosphere that soothes the soul."

  • "We went for Christmas dinner. The food was fabulous but he restuarant was extremely noisy and we sat in a high traffic area. Our booth was akwardly placed against the stairs. Not convenient for Seniors who have to climb steps and then attempt to get into the booth. I assume so they set up the restaurant to accomodate as many seats as possible. There are alot of stairs and they are dangerously set up. They should remove the booths heading up the stairs. There is too much traffic while you are trying to enjoy your dinner. Not only wait staff coming back and forth but customers walking up and down the stairs too. Very distracting. The food was fabulous so I would definitely go back but I would ask to be seated at a different table."

  • "This was our first time here and it was a random choice from Open Table. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. It was our Anniversary Dinner and they remembered to greet us with a "happy anniversary" and the food was great, prices were better than expected and overall we had a wonderful experience, have already recommended it to a number of our friends. Very pleasant find!!!"

We then sat, had a few appitizers, salad, and then our meal. food came out perfect and we had a great time.
