Diner Reviews
  • "Food was OK not very special as was expected. Ordered wine year 2010, waiter tried to convince us twice that 2011 was all they had. But when we refused, he was able to find the 2010!!"

  • "was top-notch. Wish I'd had the kitchen staff when I was in the Army."

  • "It was our favorite restaurant in the Boston area having some stiff competition. The food was remarkable, unusual, and varied. service was excellent and loved the room."

  • "I first dined at Scampo last October with a couple of friends from Waltham. We had such a great time that I couldn't wait to come back during my next visit to Boston (this past Sunday night). I invited a few friends with the promise that they would be blown away by the Scampo experience. Suffice to say that by the end of the night, my friends were nominating me for a MacArthur "Genius Grant" for my suggestion. The staff was relaxed, professional and brilliant. Starting with our lovely Ph.D. candidate hostess, Laura and continuing with our charming and expert server, Dane, every note was pitch perfect. We feasted on the Pear Apple Pork, the Tagliata of Sirloin and the Slow Cooked Duck -- Awesome! Keep up the Great Work..."

  • "A group of us went out to dinner here a few days ago. The food was very good, but not great (except for the lobster pizza - that was great). The service was OK, but could have been better. For this much money, Scampo simply should be better. No real "Wow Factor." Maybe we got them on an off night. Very attractive dinning room, and the whole jail thing in the decorations around the room is cute."

  • "I was visiting from New York and wanted a nice place for dinner with a work colleague. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise; the food was great; we ordered too many starters because my salmon was perfectly done but I couldn't finish it. My friend's pork chop was cooked to perfection. Staff efficient and friendly. I would definitely return on my next trip to Boston."

  • "Our food was outstanding and the service was impeccable, warm and personal. As the tables filled up with patrons, the noise level increased to the point that my party (of 4) could not carry on a conversation due to the noise."

  • "Our first time at the restaurant. Sat outside - was lovely as the weather was great. Our wait person was amazing. We had naan, which is odd for an italian restaurant, but it was awsome. We had a mixture of items and shared them all. We would definately go back. Great dinner."

  • "From the beginning specialty cocktails through dessert, this restaurant knows how to DO IT ALL!! Every person living in or visiting Boston MUST go here. They will be so glad they did and will leave looking forward to their next time!"

  • "Was staying at Liberty hotel, so decided to check out Scampo baseed on positive reviews. Tandoori Scallops on white eggplant were different and very tasty. Wife had didn't like the Veg Cabonara Spaghetti - said it was too salty, but enjoyed the Pea Tendrils. As noted in other reviews, the brick walls make the acoustics challenging. Service was very attentive. When I made the reservation, the app told me nothing was available between 6:30 and 9. There were actually plenty of empty tables during the blocked out period. That might have been an OpenTable problem, not Scampo."

  • "Great service and excellent food. Recommend for a fun and interesting venue. Nice atmosphere and accommodating staff. This is a fun place to dine while visiting the city and is in a good location. Great location from which to walk and see sites in the surrounding area. recommend the ravioli for a real treat that was so appropriate for a light summer dish. Prices fair for the dining environment."

  • "It was really unbelievably good. We had the asparagus ravioli and I practically swooned. I went again for lunch the next day and was not disappointed. Lovely burrata and greens. So, so delicious. Well done."

  • "My girlfriend and daughter and I stayed at the Liberty Hotel doe to its close proximity to the Hospital. Often times hotel restaurants are mediocre but not Scampo. we we're greeted with a warm welcome by the hostess and sat promptly. Our waiter was well informed about the menu and gave honest recommendations. We had a variety of cocktails all of which were made well or altered to our preference. (Bloody Mary needed a bit more kick). The Sunday supper is a great deal. Salad huge portion of chicken parm and stuffed shells and a dessert and all for under 40.00. It's not cheap but the quality is there and that's what matters! Lots of variety to the menu and we all found it difficult to choose from all the delicious options. I would return!!"

  • "We went to Scampo's on a friend's recommendation and it was wonderful! From my amazing cocktail, awesome pre dinner app and my dinner that was too wonderful and too big to finish we had a wonderful experience!"

  • "Took my sister there for her birthday. She is obsessed with lobster and the lobster pizza we ordered did not disappoint! The food was great in general, and very well presented. In the end they brought her a little complimentary dessert plate with happy birthday written across it. I will definitely return!"

  • "I've been to Scampo many times- never disappoints! Service is amazing, food is always fantastic and there is great energy all around. They don't push you out of your table - just let you sit until you decide to leave. Love this place!"

  • "I can not say enough good things about the food. But the wait staff is doing a huge disservice to this restaurant. Especially when you are seated outside. Beautiful location but no service. If you're a foodie sit at the bar and enjoy. Amazing food from Lydia Shier !!"

  • "We try to be adventuiresome and try something new or different, but always come back to Scampo. Love it for dinner as well, and for lunch there is no better. It remains top of the list and never disapppints, and I have dined there at least 30 times over the years and purchased many gift certificates."

  • "The menu is imagintive and every dish was delicous. Eating on the patio was lovely on a summer evening. We tried two appetizers, four main courses and two desserts -- no complaints."

  • "Nous avons diné à l'extérieur dans un charmant patio au calme avec musique d'ambiance. Cuisine délicieuse ! A faire et a refaire sans hésiter. L'hotel du restaurant mérite aussi le coup d'oeil."

  • "Beautiful rest, high ceilings, open kitchen and perfect for Alfresco dinning. The pizza is not to be missed, especially the clam and bacon pizza. The duck was crispy and deliciuos. this is the place to splurge on amazing desserts."

  • "We had a lovely time. Nice table for 2 by the windows. The staff was professional and welcoming. The waiter was wonderful, so helpful in recommendations. The portion sizes are great, not too much, we opted for a naan bread with prosciutto - delicious! Then split a mozarella and tomato salad. I had an appetizer size spaghetti vongole which was delicious, my husband had the skirt steak which he loved. The staff was efficient in clearing the table in between courses. We both had dessert and a cappuccino to end the meal. The food was just fantastic. This was our second time dining here. We had an early 5:30 reservation, the restaurant was about 2/3 full, the noise level was not an issue. I would return in a heartbeat."

  • "My husband and I selected Scampo to meet for lunch. We have enjoyed a few meals there over the years --lunch and dinner-- and, indeed, I had enjoyed a lunch there with my son just 2 months ago. Unfortunately, this meal did not meet our expectations. The primary disappointment was the food, which was simply lacking the finesse we have come to expect there. We both had the lemon sole with gnocchi and crispy kale. Sadly, the dish was so oily -- each component apparently bathed in its own pool of oil, that we couldn't come close to finishing our entrees. Our server seemed to get caught up with other tables and ordering coffee required an unusually long wait. Sadly, another disappointment as the cappuccino was lukewarm when it finally arrived. "

  • "We absolutely loved dinner at Scampo and will definitely return on our next visit to Boston. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Instead of ordering a main course, we went for 5 smaller plates and dessert. This restaurant will not dissapoint. The waiter so so nice and gave us great recommendations. It is also in a beautiful hotel with an amazing lobby. Scampo will not dissapoint!"

  • "Don't ever leave Boston. You are a creative genius, and integral to the pulse and feel and vibe of the city. The way you combine ingredients, the love you put into it...you are an inspiration. Thank you."

  • "Although a bit pricey, the food was worth every penny. There were four of us and we each had something different. The comment for every meal was outstanding. Atmosphere was very energetic, nice ambiance. If I had to say anything negative it is only that the restrooms are in a very awkward location - you have to leave the restaurant and go down a long hall - it totally changed the scene. The restaurant is in the Liberty Hotel so not sure if that has something to do with the location but this detail would not lower my rating of outstanding."

  • "We had a fantastic meal here with the most delicious mozzarella, as well as pasta dishes, succulent fish and amazing beef carpaccio. The noise level was very high because the bar sits almost center in the front of restaurant and there was a raucous private party going on in a glassed in room inside the dininghall. Our waitstaff was great and handcrafted cocktails complex and yummy. Looking forward to many more meals here."

  • "We chose Scampo's because we were staying at the hotel. Am always reluctant about hotel restaurants but this did not disappoint. We had a lemon sole Sunday night special that was so delicious. Arugula salad to start and home made spumoni dessert. We will definitely return when we stay again. Be aware that Valet parking for the restaurant is $20."

  • "Very accommodating to a challenging group with a baby and lots of moving parts. Menu surprised me with creativity and variety. Great choices for group sharing or individual entrees. Nice wine list with nice surprises. "

  • "Food was quite good and plenty of options to choose from. THe main detraction was the high noise level, which seems to be a consistent feature of Scampo. (Knowing this I had asked for a quiet table in the OpenTable reservation, to no avail.) It's difficult to carry on a conversation."

  • "As always, Scampo was wonderful. I brought two friends for a birthday lunch, both Bostonians who amazingly had never heard of Scampo. They were both very pleasantly surprised. What surprised me was that the hostess' wished my guest a happy birthday as did the wait staff. They even went out of their way to bring a plate full of the most delicious cookies as a birthday wish. The entire afternoon was most pleasant. My friends and I will definitely return."

  • "The menu was surprisingly limited at lunch and the portions small. The waiter was energetic and had some creative touches (put your menus in a pile when ready to order). "

  • "We live nearby and come to Scampo a fair amount, more for drinks than dinner. We chose it as a special occasion venue for Mother's Day. They seated us over in an empty area to start with the side closer to the courtyard looking more appealing. The waiter did a nice job but the food was borderline for a high end spot. We had the Sunday Supper which was a generous five, a soft shell crab special that was not special, and a piece of swordfish that was decent but not comparable to Legal or Atlantic Fish. I probably dropped $300 and won't be rushing back. Yawn. "
