Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time here - we liked it so much we are coming back for dinner next week for my wife's birthday."

  • "I eat here a few times a year and have never been disappointed. The pasta is indescribable, the pizza like no other (try the lobster pizza--you wouldn't think so but it's great), don't miss the mozzarella bar, the changing entrées are always a good bet, too. My husband had the suckling pig on a recent visit. Perfect and unique. Wine menu is excellent and the blood orange margarita a specialty. Prices are above average (ok, high) but at least you feel as though you are getting something special for your money. The lounge area with the high top tables can be noisy so ask for a table in a quieter part of the restaurant."

  • "I absolutely enjoy a good pizza and Scampo's aced this one. I also enjoyed having a knowledgeable and friendly waiter. - Did I mention the desserts?"

  • "We overrate, but just had to have dessert because the dinner was so delicious and we did not want to miss a thing. I would never go on a weekend because it was too loud, even on a Monday. We will be back!"

  • "we have tried to dine at Scampo three time, however due to a snow storm and an illness we haven't been able. Last Saturday we seceded and had a FANTASTIC meal with GREAT service. Will be back !!!!"

  • "All the food was wonderful (caprese salad, skirt steak, crispy duck, pasta) except for the Patrick's naan with prosciutto. I thought they had delivered the wrong naan. It looked like prosciutto but tasted like seafood. Even my daughter agreed (and we spent 3 weeks in Tuscany last spring). Perhaps it absorbed the smells of the fish and lobster used in this restaurant???"

  • "Service was so so. We were a 5 people group and asked for more bread for twice but did not bring to us any, not even a word saying anything. The food was good though."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Limited menu but good variety. Hard to get a reservation for but it seems you can sit at the bar and be served dinner as well."

  • "The perfect spot for my wife's birthday dinner. Highly recommend it. Making reservations was easy; table was ready on time; service was excellent and the food was great. And they remembered to bring out a birthday cake!"

  • "Restaurant week menu was great - portions were generous and meal seemed like a great representation of their normal food and service. Would definitely recommend and now plan to return for additional meals!"

  • "Scampo's is still one of my favorites as well as others. They are ALWAYS busy. The staff, food and service are always fantastic."

  • "Started with a Bellini which was terrific! Had a squash pasta dish which was delicious. Scones in the bread basket were amazing. Beautiful place, great food and drink and terrific service. One of my favorite places for lunch."

  • "Scampo, is a rare breed today, a good restaurant inside of a hotel. They have unique dishes prepared wonderfully. they will accommodate special requests and it is a happening place!!!"

  • "Absolutely delicious with great classy atmosphere in a beautiful hotel, must eat here!"

  • "We had a great lunch celebrating the engagement of a colleague. The staff was very nice. I called ahead to order a bottle of Prosecco and paid for it advance. They acknowledged it discreetly when we arrived, and the bottle arrived quickly. Our waitress was very nice and the food was excellent. It was restaurant week which some of us too advantage of. Everyone was happy."

  • "I visited Scampo during Dine Out Boston. It was lunch time and the restaurant did not seem very busy. However, service was super slow, the problem definitely wasn't coming from the kitchen. The menus were a problem for me. The regular lunch menu was cramped and hard to read because there was so much text crammed on one page. The Restaurant Week lunch menu looked as though it was designed by a child. Not a very professional look at all. The chairs and tables in the restaurant are incredibly run down looking and need an update. The food was very good, flavors paired well together. The cocktails, although overpriced, were also tasty. They seemed to have a solid wine list."

  • "Very nice experience; the food was excellent. The service was generally good, although at the end of the meal when my friend wanted more coffee, he virtually had to flag someone down to get a refill."

  • "Scampo is absolutely the most generous choice for restaurant week, now called Dine Out Boston. The lunch offering is stellar, and the service matches the food."

  • "The appetizers and dessert were outstanding- the pastas especially. My duck was a bit tough, but everyone else was entirely pleased with their entrees. Service was exceptional and friendly. It was lively but still quiet, being a Sunday night- but it can get pretty packed Thursday-Saturday!"

  • "I have been to Scampo numerous times and it never disappoints. I had the papperalle with pancetta and it was fabulous . I highly recommend this fun and lively restaurant"

  • "can't say enough, everything was great.our service was excellent I had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly,my friend had the lamb al forno his plate was spotless when he was done , the pasta and pizzza was out of this world, very casual and relaxing atmosphere."

  • "Set in historically interesting renovation of Charles St Jail, this appropriately named restaurant serves up imaginative food with very knowledgable wait staff. Friday evening Suckling Pig al Forno was delicious and entices me to return on a Saturday evening when Roast Lamb is the special. House made pasta - we shared the orchiette with porchetta after an appetizer of panko coated deep fried shrimp stuffed with goat cheese - excellent."

  • "Great drinks (Moscow Mule), good service and very tastey food. Veal was bit chewy, but otherwise everyone was very happy with their food. Try the lobster pizza!"

  • "I visited Scampo on a Monday evening following a long flight from Europe. The hostess graciously seated us 15 minutes early, & the pace of the meal allowed us to unwind fully. The service was excellent. I had the calamari app., my guest had a salad, both were very good. I would order the calamari again in a heartbeat. Light, flavorful sauces, really well done. The dinner portions were very large. I had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly (not overcooked as pork frequently is) & the flavors were yummy indeed. My guest had a fish special & it too was excellent. My only complaint was the noise level. The lower level space makes the acoustics a bit tough. I would highly recommend Scampo, & will be returning on future trips to Boston."

  • "I travelled to Italy 7 months ago Venice Florence and Rome. The food at Scampo brought me back to some of my favorite places in Europe! Amazing cuisine!"

  • "I enjoy Scampo, but our meal Friday was not as good as it normally is. Everything was so rich; I ordered the lemon sole thinking it would be light, but it came with lots of rich sauce and was extremely overcooked - no excuse for that in a fine restaurant like Scampo. Additionally, the waiter forgot that I had asked to substitute vegetables for the mashed potatoes. I guess they had an off night, but really, at the high prices, I expect better food and service."

  • "Great food in a fun environment. Boston location and old jail house building add to a great evening."

  • "The food, service and ambience were wonderful. I have yet to be disappointed by Lydia's creative style. I can't wait to return and try some of the other items on the menu."

  • "second time dining here and it has been consistently excellent with interesting and creative dishes. expensive but good value. not excessively loud but certainly not quiet so although it is romantic, it is energetically so and not the place to spring a marriage proposal ."
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "Ok so I am old enough to have enjoyed Lydia's food at the Bostonian. The lighting at Scampo's robbed me and my guests of fully enjoying the culmination of the career of an outstanding chef and restauranteur. What a pity I could not see the delicious bone marrow. The outstanding piece of sole on a bed of mashed with larger than life shrimp sliced with the shell still on was like eating a lobster tail except the lighting was so dark I could not see to remove the charred and delicious shell from the scampi! My poor husband never said a word and ate the shrimp shell and all! Not being able to see the food 's color and savor the expectation of the next morsel of food diminished the whole experience and defeats the purpose of fine dining."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and made a fantastic choice in dining at Scampo. The veal scallopini was to die for, and the braised lamb shank was phenominal. The polenta was cooked perfectly in all it's creamy goodness and I wish I'd ordered it for myself vs. having to share any with my husband! We plan on going back in the summer and can't wait to see their warm weather menu offerings."

  • "The food was as close to perfect as any place I have ever been. The service was impeccable. I will go back for sure."

  • "My husband and I had Valentines lunch here and it was, hands down, the best food either of us has had in a long long time. We were thrilled. This is the beginning of something."

  • "It was wonderful. I wrote that it was my granddaughter's 18th birthday and they did the rest. Everyone wished her a happy birthday and then the dessert came out with a candle and Happy Birthday in chocolate on the plate. Stunning! She felt incredibly special!"

  • "The service was incredible. Our waiter was so attentive and accommodating . The other servers, that cleaned our table, brought water were also so attentive . Overall out experience was outstanding. Food was delicious and te portion was perfect!"
