  • "Hi Gang PigHippo back reviewing eats around NM. This is our 4th visit to Scalo and our 2nd Sunday brunch. Bloody Mary Bar Excellent, Antipasta Excellent! Service normally Excellent last trip Not so good. Our server needs to learn the fine art of serving from the side of the customer and not cross in front. This was passed on to manager while I was dealing with another problem with my DEBT card. This was the first time I've ever had this issue with a local eating establishment. I spoke with the manager at Scalo they attempted to correct the problem but after 2 attempts I decide to have my bank fix it. Technology can cause issues to happen. All I have to say is any time you eat out check your bank statements. Scalo still a good place!"

  • "Bar had limited drink mixes, and drink knowledge, couldn't make pink squirrel or grasshopper, didn't have southern comfort a peach flavored whisky and suggested jack Daniel or makers mark, . Wait staff not attentive to our two top but stood at server station chatting our outside on patio. Bartenders pushed our drink requests aside to chat with friends watching videos on their i- phones. We had to request our check three times from other servers as ours kept walking past us not even making eye contact."

  • "We have always liked this restaurant. It is a staple in Albuquerque. We had been given a gift certificate so we decided to splurge for our anniversary. The service was impeccable. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. I liked it, my wife didn't. We ordered two of the special entrees. My pork chop was a little tough and my wife's hallibut was a little under cooked for her taste. Maybe it was just an off night for us or for Scalo's. All the side orders were very good and the wine was perfect. The service was wonderful and friendly. We will most certainly go back."

  • "We went to Scalo's before seeing The Addam's Family. It was great because it was down the street from Pope Joy. The food was delicious. Everyone in our party thought what they ordered was great. The service was excellent. There was a large party that showed up right before us so our food took a while to arrive but the manager came and explained and apologized. I appreciated that. We gave ourselves plenty of time so we were not late for the play. The restaurant was loud and my husband could not hear our conversation. It is difficult to find a quiet place to eat though. I would go back for the food--excellent!"

  • "Scalo's is a neighborhood favorite in Nob Hill, but I fear that the quality of the experience has declined. The server was abrupt, never welcoming us or introducing herself, the wines by the glass options were marginal, I ordered the lamb chop and received the lamb loin special without forewarning, the wine glass refill at mid-dinner took so long we finished dinner without wine. The food was delicious and the ambiance lovely with views of the neon artwork along Central Ave."

  • "I went to Scalo along with some family members to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations for 7:15 and arrived around 7:10, our table was ready at approximately 7:20. The table we had was in a high traffic area with lots of noise and passing customers. However, we asked one of the servers if we could move to the back room for a more quiet environment. They willingly moved us, and were very friendly about it. Being moved to the back room, it was harder to get the server's attention for our requests, but that is understandable. The food was out in a timely manner and the service was fantastic. They even held the cake we brought in their fridge and brought it out with a candle when we finished our dinner. Overall, Scalo is a great place!"

For an appetizer we had the "piatto di formaggi"; I forgot the artisanal cheeses we had, but it was wonderful with an apricot mostarda (perfect taste and texture). For dinner I had the "branzino". The meal was perfectly presented. The Sea Bass was cooked perfectly and was tasty - clearly it was flown in that day. The entire serving was the perfect amount - not too much, not too little, but just right. For desert I had the "Semolina Budino" which was delicious and the flavors were well balanced between the berries, semolina custard, and the fresh whipped cream. Service was perfect! They did not rush you - they let you enjoyed your stay and your meal."

  • "Made a reservation, well in advance and when we arrived on time to our reservation, we were told our table, was not ready yet and just need to be reset. Fair enough. In my mind that means, clearing table cloth, adding place settings and making sure the table is clean, that should only take about 5 MAYBE 10 mins at the most (to be generous). We waited for about 25-30 for our table to be reset, in reality, they did not have a table reserved for us, they were trying to take our reserved table and combine it to seat a bigger party that was not even there yet and from what we saw, didn't show up while we dined. When asked about it they just made excuses, and did not apologize. Great food, decent wait staff, no concept of reservation."

  • "Late lunch at a good restaurant can be a foodie's delight. We shared Scalo's spectacular antipasto plate (which we rate a 10) with half a bottle of wine. By chance it was Monday when bottles of wine are half price. Then we ordered the pasta special of the day: perfect light pasta smothered in a variety of mixed sea food with well-developed flavor and subtle garlic slivers. Reheated leftovers were an excellent appetizer before whatever we had at home for dinner with the rest of our bottle of wine."

  • "I was extremely disappointed in Scalo the evening we went. We have been many times before, but this was definitely our worst experience. We were a large party as I had planned the reservation for my husband's birthday. They were out of everything on the menu. It would have been nice if they had mentioned this before seating us. I had made the reservation in advance so they should have also been expecting that volume at the restaurant. It was a bit embarrassing to invite all of our friends out to a restaurant that couldn't provide many of the dishes offered on their menu."

  • "Wow, why do we not come here more often. The energy of Scalo is palpable. Our server, Thomas, was perfect. Just present enough but not overbearing, knowledgeable and responsive. The food selection was great and presentation and taste lived up to the menu. Our only issue was our initial table seating. It was a bit public for the intimate dinner we planned. However, the hostess was quick and professional to slide us over into a less exposed table. Delightful, wonderful and delicious. We are coming back for our next night out! Go, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "Went here to celebrate a birthday and we had a really great dinner. We were both very pleased with our dishes. I ordered the Linguni con Cozzi. The mussels were fresh and the sauce was light making for a satisfying combination. My dining partner ordered the braised short ribs. The portion was generous and the meat was tender and savory. The service was outstanding, our waitress was knowledgeable but not overbearing, she made us feel comfortable, was attentive but not annoying. I would recommend this as one of nob hills best restaurants for Italian cuisine."

It was fun sitting up next to the front window along Historic Route 66 and seeing everything that goes on at twilight along Central Avenue. Actually, everything from the soup and salad through dessert was fantastic and our waitperson was great. One of the best meals we have ever enjoyed at a restaurant anywhere in this country or Europe and that is saying a lot!"

  • "This was dinner with an old friend and we decided to spoil ourselves at Scalo. The soup -- butternut squash bisque -- was very different and very good. Main courses excellent. Dessert? Divine. We chose not to enjoy wine but Scalo has always had a great wine list. Service was exceptional; she was there when we needed her and absent when we didn't. We love the corner table on the Central Ave side by the window. I could have lingered for hours over coffee and dessert. A very nice time was had by all."

Being from out of town, it doesn't behoove us to drive 50+ miles for Scalo's famous mojitos, to find they are out of mint. The bib lettuce fig salad was outstanding as was the pasta with mussels. If you haven't been to scalo's for a while, give it a try."

  • "It was my wife's birthday and this is our special occasion place. This is where we had our first date. We love it. I think the server was Dave. He waited forever just to say hello and take a drink order to the point where I went to the bar and he still hadn't stopped by. He struggled all night and we didn't complain but other staff noticed so we got a discount and free champagne and dessert. And the food was phenomenal. We will always go back but that night and that server was poor."

The restaurant ALWAYS provides a nice balance of excellent food, fine service and reasonable prices. I am in awe of such finesse."
