A word from Scalina
Jorge Perez and a trio of veterans in the restaurant industry are taking Italian cuisine to new heights with Scalina, located in the Related Group building, One Miami. Italian-born Tom Billante along with Chef Enrico, who worked as executive Chef at the well known New York restaurant Scalinatella for the past 22 years and his brother Fernando, Manager, formerly with Il Molino, NY, complete the trio. The breathtaking views from the dining room and waterfront terrace are the perfect match for the spectacular Italian cuisine. Scalina offers romantic elevated booths and tables for unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay. The rustic wood beams along the ceiling hold Murano glass chandeliers while an elegant bar greets customers as they enter. The menu has been perfected by Chef Enrico over his more than 25 years in the industry. He prides himself on serving plenty of Italian specialties, and a variety of fresh whole fish prepared simply in the European style, oven baked or grill

Scalina reviews from OpenTable diners
  • I went to Scalina on a Tuesday,

I went to Scalina on a Tuesday, so it was very quiet and intimate. My companion and I sat in a booth, which was a comfortable and somewhat romantic setting. Our dinner was everything you would expect from a 4-star restaurant. I had the salmon with sea scallops, prepared in a light saffron sauce. It came served with baby asparagus. While not imaginitively presented, it was good, basic, well-prepared food. My date had the steak ala Fernando, prepared with a pepper-corn cream sauce. Again, good, but basic. I will no doubt go back and try something more adventurous. Scalina is conveniently located, and offers valet parking at the front door. Maybe a little pricey for the experience, but no complaints. The service was top-shelf.

Scalina used to have good service. Last time we've been there, we had to beg for a waiter. When they came, they forgot to bring orders, they forgot to offer cheese after serving pasta and we didn't have dessert only because we couldn't find any waiter to order it. I hope they find their way back soon, because the food is wonderful but I really don't want to come back there for a while.

The location and views are gorgeous, but the food is mediocre st best. The fish was gelatinous and had bones in it. I couldn't even finish it.... I really hope they improve their food quality as the place is in such a beautiful location.

I am more than sure, that Scalina will not survive . It will close in few month. The service there is extremely poor, the waiters don't know what are they talking about, and they should be yanger and better looking, because they represent the restaurant, and presentation is everything in the restaurant business. A lot of things from the menu they did not have, the stake was prepared wrong, it was dry, overlooked . No, I would never recommend Scalina to anybody.

I informed the hostess that it was my wedding anniversary and we got special treatment. Complementary champagne and desserts was a plus. Food was amazing. I recommend rack of lamb which for some reason is not mentioned on the menu.

"Scale" your way up to Scalina thru a simple yet elegant foyer space. Decor seemed dated or even incompatible w/ “Italian” theme. A few chairs were “worn out”, presumably from high diner volume; yet on this Sat. night, Scalina was fairly desolate. Friendly, unpretentious staff is great, but can use more training. Mgmt was professional. FOOD: unfortunately, did not live up to expectations, particularly for this price point($$$). Although Spinach Ravioli was good, other selections were just bland and unimaginative. Did I mention they were out of calamari? My aunt Carmela from Sicily would have “gone to the mattresses” over that one. Hey Scalina,“Mamma mia whatsa-matta for you...heh”. For the love of St. Vincent...STOCK UP ON THE CALAMARI!!

Awful, the food was very poor, overpriced and two of us, four went felt unwell after eating the fish.... I would strongly advise anyone thinking of going there - NOT TO ! We go out to dinner 3 times a week and I am 43 years old, in that time I have never vocally complained about a restaurant, this time I felt that I had to warn other people....

The food was good but it was a little pricey. I don't mind spending the money if the food is amazing but for what it was it was it definetly was NOT priced appropriately. We Went on a Friday night around 9:30 and it was completely dead which was weird. The service was pretty good but If they were packed I think that might not be the case. Overall I give it a 3 because I can't find anything wrong with it specifically but I probably would not go back... It's just average in my book.

The food was delicious and the servers were very good, but this may have been because it was not busy when we were dining. My largest complaint was the restaurant is NOT kid friendly at all. Not the end of the world the restaurant has no kids menu, but when you ask for spaghetti with butter and get charged $23.00 is OUTRAGEOUS! They charged us for their "cheapest" pasta dish, not what should have been more than $8. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. I would return because it was good food and conveniently located near the Intercontinental Hotel, but would not go out of my way to return if I was not staying in the area.
