A word from Sbisa's
Café Sbisa, located in the French Market area of the Vieux Carre, was founded by the Sbisa family in 1899. It was amongst many restaurant and coffee houses in the thriving port and financial district of the old French city. Today, it remains as a symbol of the past, still serving excellent New Orleans libation, as well as, classic creole cuisine.

Patrons at Sbisa will note that Chef Pedranti’s menu pays tribute to the classic creole dishes of New Orleans while giving a modern spin to the amazing southern dishes on the Gulf Coast. “Many of the great creole dishes that are found today in New Orleans restaurants began at Sbisa,” according to Pedranti. “As such, our culinary goal is to honor our historic roots with a modern disposition.”

Diner Reviews
  • "Obviously, it's a very historic restaurant, and having the big band combo play was pretty neat. Our server was great and very attentive. The food, however, was less than I had hoped. I ordered the barbecue shrimp, and was disappointed that the shrimp were still in their shell. Also, the entree was too salty - and that' coming from a confessed saltaholic."

  • "First time there since reopening. Only a block from our condo but we tend to venture out further when dining. We will definitely return and recommend to our family & friends. Very nice French Quarter atmosphere, wonderful selections on their menu and the service is what you would expect at such a restaurant."

  • "We chose this restaurant because it is owned by the same people who had operated another venue in New Orleans which we loved, but was closed by the owners to open this restaurant. As at their previous location, the food was outstanding. We had a party of 6 and all ordered appetizers and various entrees. The service as well as the food was outstanding. We highly recommend the Cajun Mac & Cheese, the Chicken and the Rabbit dishes."

  • "First of all the room was not full and we were put I the back dark corner by the kitchen door. Ordered drinks and that was a bad start. Asked for a straight up martini and it came in a glass on ice. Chopped salads were good but ridiculously large. Hubby ordered rabbit two ways, and it was only one way, but tender. My filet seemed like it had marinated in garlic juice for a week and was inedible. Carrots from Hollygrove were delicious tho. We will not be back and will not recommend this place to anyone!!"

  • "Booked a table for Sunday afternoon brunch with friends in the movie business, who were in town for Jazz Fest. There was NOBODY else in the restaurant when we arrived; not a good sign. (One in the party, made his excuse and left right away -smart move.) Menu was not anything like the Sunday Brunch Menu listed on Open Table; not even the "Lunch Menu." I ordered a burger, medium-rare; it came out very well done, dry, tasteless. French fries came out after we finished everything else. I had heard they reopened, and had hoped maybe it was like it was in the 90's; a really happening place; the "it place" for visiting movie producers, writers... Instead it was just pitiful. "

  • "The restaurant had a great vibe and history. The wait staff were very nice. The best part of the night was the band playing 20s music. The musicians even danced the dances from that time period. The food was bland and was just okay. I would go back for the entertainment but not the food."

  • "Made a reservation, but walked in to an empty restaurant from a busy, noisy street. Waited at the bar for a few minutes while the bartender dried off glasses, but did not offer my friends and I any service. Got a very strange vibe from the quiet emptiness of the place compared to everything going on in that area of the city. After a few minutes with no service, the group decided to leave rather than be the only ones there. A rather strange experience. The building was old and interesting...too bad as it seemed to have lots of potential! "

  • "we had dined at the old Cafe' Sbisa in the Spring of 2005 just before Katrina and really liked it but they had never reopened as most all of the French Qtr restaurants did. Now it's back and quite different. A live band and singing and dancing to enjoy while you dine. Food is marvelous and service is just right and quite personable. All in all a great choice for a French Qtr evening. "

  • "Ambiance is outstanding and romantic in this third-oldest restaurant in New Orleans. A dramatic two-story space focuses on a striking mural above the bar. The Hemingway was a unique well-crafted cocktail to accompany fried oyster starter in a tasty pepper sauce. The Blackened Red Fish with shrimp in a shrimp bisque sauce is an excellent example of New Orleans seafood. The generous vegetable medley of carrots, Brussels sprouts, and turnips was the perfect side-dish. This restaurant is a great New Orleans experience! "

  • "We were seated promptly but by the service kitchen door... Folding serving tray stand had to be moved by my friend for her to even be able to sit in her chair. Ordered our drinks and when the waiter brought them proceeded to tell us all of the dishes they were OUT of for the night. About one third of the menu was unavailable and it was the dishes that the good reviews had recommended. We asked for out check and left without eating. Would not recommend this restaurant for dinner even though the piano player was excellent. Maybe go on for drinks and bar music only. Our waiter was MOT friendly and was very short in his tone with is when telling us about the menu being so limited."

  • "This restaurant was selected strictly by random choice. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed delicious entrees of fish prepared perfectly. The staff was especially helpful with selections and explanations. A must on our next visit."

  • "Creole sampler pretty delicious. Short rib bourgignon amazing and drunken scallops nearly amazing. Try putting a piece on the great french bread. Goat cheese cheese cake- as you'd expect, delicious, denser and slightly drier than regular cheesecake. they played a song on request. Great gin drinks especially if you think you don't like gin- last word and french 75. Mr Jack was an excellent server."

  • "We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. But, we were seated by the kitchen door at a small table just barely for two. Needless to say, we were constantly bombarded by the staff going back and forth thru the two swinging doors constantly during our visit. We both ordered the filet, medium rare. Mine was perfect, but my wife's was pretty much medium well. We did let our waitress know, but i decide to switch steaks with my wife and eat the burnt one. I only did that because because of the holiday, the service was very slow and didnt want to wait anylonger. The meal was slow getting there, but the service was good. Disappointed that we paid $33 for a steak and it was overcooked. Love the ambience, though."

  • "We got a recommendation from our hotel to try Sbisa's and we're glad we followed it. The menu has great selections, and we can't wait to get back and try other selections. I had the red fish, which was wonderful, and my wife had scallops -- also wonderful. We'll definitely be back."

  • "I love this place. Can't wait to go back. The service was great, the food was great, my only complaint is that the restrooms are up a flight if stairs and very small."

  • "The entire dinning experience was outstanding. The wine was excellent and there was a good selection of drinks. The Arugula and Wedge salads were great. My crab cake was one of the best I had in years it had crab meat and the sauce was tasty. My short ribs were delicious. My Wife thoroughly enjoyed her Grilled Pork Chop and our Friend enjoyed her Blackened Red Fish. The desserts were worth breaking your diet. The service was extremely pleasant and helpful. There was also a god selection of unique back ground music The building has a rustic charm and the paints by George Dureau add a lot of character."

  • "This was once our favorite restaurant in New Orleans. The latest iteration is a disappointment. The atmosphere, once lively with elegant tables, is now flat and uninviting. The greeting was very welcoming and the service very good. As for the food -- we ate there four days ago and neither of us remembers what we ate. There are too many good places to go in New Orleans to keep this one on our list."

  • "Highly recommend this historic restaurant. The food was interesting and very tasty. The staff and owner made us feel like special guests in their home. Recommend going early when they are not too busy."

  • "I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. We had one of the best meals we've ever had, and we've had some great ones, here. S'bisa has only been reopened for a few months after being closed for a number of years. Please give it a try. They deserve to make it! We ate there on a Saturday night in mid-January, and I was disappointed to see people walking by look in and see the place nearly empty and walk on by. Three of us ate there that night, and all of us had different yet equally wonderful food. Go, go now, and then go again!"

  • "Very good New Orleans neighborhood restaurant. Service was solid if a bit uneven; allowing for the fact that it was a busy New Year's Eve, I think that's probably as bad as it gets and it wasn't bad at all. The food was very good. I had the pork chop which was prepared with a semi-sweet glaze and served with excellent greens and a good sweet potatoe soufflé. My wife had the rabbit special which she said was a little bland. Clientele was eclectic. Everything from oldsters to young twenties to the middle-aged like us. Some obvious locals and quite a few tourists. Our waitress invited us up to the balcony to watch the midnight fireworks; nice touch on her part."

  • "Meal was wonderful, and the specialty cocktails were delicious. It is a bit loud, with a large bar running most of the length of the main floor dining room- but the loudness was more ambient than distracting. Weird art makes for great conversation, and the tables are close together, so don't go here if you are looking for an intimate romantic dining experience- we made new friends at the next table over, though, and that was great. Overall experience was very convivial and pleasant. Servers could have been more attentive, we really only saw them a couple of times, but that may have been due to the fact that there only seemed to be two for the whole restaurant, and it was fairly busy. Would return with friends."

  • "Had a table of 10 for a group dinner. What staff were very personable but couldn't quite seem to get the orders quite right. However, they were very apologetic and patient with the repeated requests to correct the orders. The food when it properly arrived was delicious. Hopefully they were just having an off night. I would definitely try again with a smaller group."

  • "This would be a great spot for a late night snack and drinks - great atmosphere - felt like a turn of the century saloon or bordello - Great bar. Friendly, attentive staff Food disappointing; gumbo and shrimp bisque not up to New Orleans standard; fishy redfish"
