A word from Sazon
After nearly 3 successful years in Midtown Manhattan, owner of Sofrito, Genaro "JR" Morales decided it was time to expand and begin his search for a new location. Shortly thereafter, Sazon was born. An exciting and unique addition to Manhattan's downtown scene, Sazon brings authentic Puerto Rican cuisine to the heart of Tribeca. This dual-level establishment encompasses all the vibrancy and delectability of its sister location but adds a downtown flavor all its own. Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch: Sazon offers its patrons a variety of ways to experience Puerto Rican cuisine at its best. Buen ProvechoContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "The ambiance for this place is excellent; upscale without being pretentious or stuffy. The lounge/salsa background music was a nice touch as well. The staff was professional, and the 9 of us in my group had no errors in our orders. The only issue is that the food. Not that any of it was bad, but not all of it was phenomenal. My El Cubano sandwich was only okay; but the appetizers were excellent. The salad was awesome, but the rice was just good. This mixture keeps this location from getting an excellent grade on my food scale (I am stingy with my stars). However, I would definitely go back and give them another chance. Perhaps try the drinks and write another review. :-)"

  • "Nice decor, good food and drinks. They have a lounge/bar in the lower level. I would eat hear again. "

  • "The food is great but the service needs help. The ladies in the front will tell you to wait about 15 minutes downstairs by the bar for your table. As soon as the 15 minutes are over, they will tell you to wait another 15 minutes! Once you get to the basement, you get no cell reception on your cellphone. If you were waiting for your group to come and if they needed to contact you, you will need to step outside to talk or text. Other than that, the was food was 5 stars. I enjoyed everything and have no complaints. I suggest trying something you don't eat often. It's a great spot to meet up after work and for a birthday celebration. "

  • "Small location and felt rushed having dinner on a Thursday night. To many people hanging around bar waiting for tables. You will be sitting very close to table next to you! "

  • "It was my first time in this place and as soon as I got there I loved the ambience. The food was excellent and the drinks were really good too. At the end of my dinner a girl passing by my table spilled my drink on my dress. Management and their staff went above and beyond trying to comfort me and apologetic for the incovenience. I thought that was very nice considering the fact that it wasn't their fault. I will definitely come back."

  • "Great vibrant scene but forget about a romantic evening. You cannot hear yourself talk. Get there before 730pm if not long wait."

  • "We went because it was close to where we were and it was participating in restaurant week. For $38 +tax+tip each you get an app (we got fried calamari and fried shrimp) then we both got a paella as our entree and the coconut flan and a chocolate cake thing with dulce de leche ice cream We had 3 drinks too$14 ea. The appetizers were nothing special or nothing out if the ordinary. The paella however was full of shellfish but all of it was lacking taste. Very disappointing. I believe that the seafood was probably frozen hence the lack of taste The deserts were yummy. But nothing special. Btwn the 2 of us we spent $178! So would I recommend the place can't say I would buy can't say that I wouldn't.Maybe we were unlucky with our choice of food"

  • "My only problem with this restaurant was waiting to be seated. We had a reservation for three at 8:15pm and wasn't seated till 9:30"

  • "Was a 2 hour lunch. We had to ask for everything twice - the drinks, the appetizers, the lunch, the bill. Literally, everything twice. The appetizers took about 25 - 30 minutes to come out. The waiter actually overcharged us on the sangria and added in a 20% gratuity on a table for four. Who does that? We had to then wait longer for him to deduct the overage on the drinks and remove the tip. The waiter was always hard to get a hold of and the restaurant was only about half full. I definitely would not go back."

  • "Waited 1.5 hours WITH a reservation and hostess couldn't even give an estimate as to when our table would be ready . We eventually had to pull the floor manager who was busy socializing with pple he knew at a table. We were seated shortly after and our waiter was great. Overall had a bad experience and wouldn't go back or recommend this place. Considering the thousands of restaurants to visit in NYC ... Why would I go back somewhere that wasn't even apologetic for the wait. No thanks . First impressions are everything and Sazon should have done better . The food was good but I've been to other Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurants and had the same dish better elsewhere . Nothing to rave about."

  • "Way too expensive. They raised the prices on everything and changed the quality of food. I wish the originally owner was still charge. 70$ for 5 drinks was way too much."

  • "I've had a birthday dinner and recently taken my family out for dinner to Sazon and although the food is great, it's very busy so you have to get what you need when your waiting is at the table. On any given night there are at least 5-8 ppl celebrating their birthdays. They cater to big crowds and small intimate couples or a few girlfriends but the $35 gratuity fee added on to the bill with just me and my two daughter 9 & 14 was a bit excessive. We barely got any service, had to wait for refills of water, napkins and extra drinks. The scene is always energetic and I would go back but the servers need to tend to the tables more and EARN their tips"

  • "I thought the food and service was outstanding but I was suprised and put off by the fact that for a party of three a gratuitiy charge was automaticlly added to the bill. Was this because we were a party of all women? There was nothing on the menu stating that grtuity wasto be automatically added."

  • "Great restaurant and the food was great. However the music was so loud that everyone tried to speak over it which made it harder for everyone else to talk/hear each other."

  • "Been here several times, but was disappointed with the food been severed cold and turning our drinks back to the bar due was made completely wrong . Love the spot and service was great. Def will give another chance to Sazon"

  • "I went to Sazon during Restaurant Week and had a blast. The service was fantastic and our waiter was extremely helpful with suggestions for both popular food and drink items. I asked for a dessert item that wasn't on the prize fix menu and the waiter hooked it up with my very favorite Tres Leche. Everything that hit the table was delicious. My only complaint was the spacing. Once you sit down if you're at the farthest end of the table you have to stay there. Not much took for moving."

  • "Food was good and we got seated pretty quickly. Lounge downstairs was too cold ( heater not working?) to wait, and they had to look for us. To tell us table was ready. The constant start and stop to sing happy bday was cute at first, but after the 5th time in an hour, it got annoying. Vibe is nice and service was good"

  • "Had a 7:15 reservation and still had to wait 40 minutes. No standing room at the bar so we waited in our car. Food was great, drinks were okay but I wouldn't go back unless I wanted a party atmosphere. Music is so loud, you can't hear your waiter. Also, space is very cramped so my party of 3 were constantly scooting our chairs in for waiters and patrons to get around."

  • "We arrived late and had to wait for about 20 min. to be seated. Our table was then given to someone who said they were me (long story)... The manager rectified this by giving everyone in my party free white sangria, which was very good and strong. It was extremely loud and crowded. Service was fine. Our waiter was nic and always with a smile. I was underwhelmed by the food. We all felt like it was just ok. I would recommend Sofrito over Sazon."

  • "Although our server and the rest of the staff were impeccable, I gave a rating of 4 for service because the restaurant overbooked and we had to wait for over 30 minutes for our table as did many of the other guests. Also, even though we were a party of 2, 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. The explanation given was because it was restaurant week. Since our server was AWESOME, he would have received a hefty tip anyway. So my complaint is that the restaurant is not really offering restaurant week special charges, they are recouping their profit by hiding charges. Bottom line, if you can't afford the discounts don't participate as a business."

  • "Had a work outing to Sazon for restaurant week. The restaurant was small and loud but pleasant. Like a bar. The food was amazing with one small exception. The appetizers were 1. shrimp - great fried shrimp, very tasty! 2. empanadas - the least interesting of everything we got, but still quite good 3. carne fritas - the best of the appetizers 4. calamari - surprisingly good, I typically don't like calamari, but this was perfect, not too chewy or overdone. For main courses we had 1. pernil - this was enormous! 2. paella - serving size was also pretty big 3. chicken breast - was overdone and a bit chewy. We all got the chocolate lava cake for desert and I can't say enough good things about it. Very decadent."

  • "My boyfriend and I visited the sister restaurant of Sofritos last Thursday. I figured it would be a great spot to try during my restaurant week adventure. We arrived promptly at Sazon where we were ID and seated between a pretty congested dining area. We sat for about 15 minutes discussing our work day before we realized that we had not received glasses of water, menus, or any bit of attention or introduction from the waitstaff. As we continued to sit we searched the restaurant for someone who would be able to service us. Long story short, horrible service, great drinks, 20% gratuity for 2 people & dry pernil. Never going back!"

  • "This is my second time to this restaurant. Food is very good along with the ambiance. I decided to revisit after about a couple of years to take advantage of their restaurant week menu, which had a variety of options and had me salivating. My main issue was with the service. It was day two of restaurant week and the waiter was clueless regarding the menu. The first order and my dessert had to be sent back because it was incorrect. If the food was subpar, I would have been even more aggravated. There is no reason that I should know the menu better than the waiter."

  • "I dined at Sazon on 2/19/2014 for Restaurant Week. The drinks were excellent I had a "Lover" while my date had a "Boricua" both suggested by our waiter. If you are on a budget please be mindful of how many drinks you have. Each drink was $13 and we had 2 a piece which was a 1/3 of our bill. Our food was ok considering I had my mouth watering for the pernil which by the way they were out of so I settled for the Seafood Paella instead. My only con is the %18 tip which brought our bill from $138 (tax not included) to a whopping $177. I don't think I'll be going there for a very long time lol"

  • "To Sanzon. Friendly atmosphere and service at the table was very pleasant, except for the fact that the waiter took my cocktail away before I was done. At $13, a drink, I was a bit annoyed with that. Otherwise the food was good. Entree portions way too big but better have that than the tiny diet portions. Overall dining experience was. Great."
