A word from Sayat Nova
Located just steps from Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago's thriving Streeterville neighborhood, Sayat Nova is a cozy, romantic enclave tucked back from the city's urban sprawl. Since 1970, we have offered Armenian cuisine that presents a slightly earthier variation on typical Mediterranean fare.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My family and I were visiting Chicago , and Some of us wanted to explore different foods and others not so much. This was the perfect place. My husband and I ordered the kabobs and the kids ordered more authentic Armenian food. We all enjoyed our meals. Service was good, but nothing special, not warm and inviting."

  • "Was planning dinner with the family and wanted a reasonable priced restaurant near Michigan Avenue. Sayat Nova was tasty! Really enjoyed the hummus, and the different kabobs we ordered were very well seasoned. Prices are reasonable, and the meal fills you up without being overstuffed! We'd stop back again!"

  • "We went here for Valentine's Day and it was great. It was a regular menu, not some stupid premade menu with two choices. the servers were very attentive, the food was great, they even seated us about half an hour early."

  • "This is the only Armenian restaurant I've ever eaten at--judging by the offerings at Sayat Nova it's an overlook cuisine. Great food, nice atmosphere, fair prices. Go and enjoy."

  • "We've made two trips to Chicago this winter and ate here both times. We are trying to eat healthier and their menu suits this. And we don't feel like it is diet food at all. We love the appetizers we have tried and their red lentil soup. We have enjoyed our meals there. I like their intimate booths. This place is also so convenient to where we usually stay (Conrad Hotel). We will come back when we are in town!"

  • "The Armenian food was very good, and all types of foods offered vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian options. The ambience was very nice - the seating is nice for small groups. The music at the bar was a bit too loud, though. Overall, though, it was a very nice experience and I would recommend it to anyone."

  • "Fresh, flavorful middle eastern food. I have had many of these dishes before but never from an Armenian perspective. The lamb chops were excellent and my husband enjoyed the Armenian combo plate. We were there on a cold snowy night, few patrons but the help was attentive and the food made to order was delicious. It was a romantic setting with comfortable booths. Will definitely be back."

  • "Our daughter and her 3 sisters wanted to do something different for her birthday - we suggested Armenian and they had no idea, but were intrigued by the idea. We checked with the host on our way back from the Mag Mile and before our reservation time of 6:30 to see if they were up to the challenge of keeping happy twin 11 years old girls, the 6 year old birthday girl, a 3 year old and a 16 year old plus the parents. They were welcoming and excited to have us, treated us first class, and accommodated a few minor changes requested to the menu prep. What a great time and a culural experience! Our girls enjoyed looking up where Armenia is on the map and reading about the fantastic history! Thanks for the great memories and outstanding food."

  • "This was our first visit to Sayat Nova. We had several appetizers: The Raw Kibbee (Armenian steak tartar) was one of best raw dishes I have had, large portion enough to share for four, the Bab Gannouj (eggplant dip) and Hummus were excellent. We also tried the Armenian pomergrantite wine, it is quite sweet so not all diners may like it. The main dishes: we had lamb chops and shis kebabs: all were excellent. Would definitely visit again!"

  • "Came here one night out of the blue. Nicely nestled just off of busy Michigan Avenue, so it was a nice quiet place for dinner. The food was spot-on; the chicken and steak kabobs were juicy and tender. The veggie sides that accompany the meat and rice was a little odd though - the peppers and the onions were nicely burnt, but not fully cooked. It was almost like they were for show and not really for eating."

  • "We went to Sayat Nova for my son's birthday. Although the food was good, the service was rushed. I felt like they were practically pushing us out the door. Our waitress seemed almost annoyed that we were there, Also, we could hear loud music and heated discussions coming from the kitchen. So loud that is was a distraction to the conversation at our own table."

  • "We live out of town and make a point of always going to Sayat Nova when in Chicago. This time we also brought a guest--she hasn't stopped talking about how incredible the food was! Everything is always exquisite. Great service, even when the restaurant is packed."

  • "An old favorite restaurant of ours is slipping some. While you can't find better Middle Eastern appetizers in the city, the lamb in my sautéed lamb dish was uncharacteristically tough and another in or party had dry chicken in a kabob. Wine prices were way up for this casual restaurant and our service was just over okay. We've been going to Sayat Nova for many years and would hate to see it slip in any way. We'll be back for sure hoping that this was just a one timer."

  • "Being in Chicago on business and staying in a hotel on the Magnificent Mile, the restaurant options for a traveler are overwhelming. Having a wife of Armenian descent, I was surprised to find Sayat Nova and decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. Very good eastern Mediterranean dishes at a reasonable price for downtown Chicago. I'll be back on my next trip."

  • "Always thought Aremian cuisine would be closer to Eastern European than Mediterranean, learned differently at Sayat Nova. Most of the dishes would be at home at a Turkish or Greek restaurant. The charbroiled chicken legs & thighs (came with 2 leg quarters) had a definite lemony taste, the lamb shiskabop was also nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. Keeping to a low carb diet, when we asked for the rice to be left off the server offered to substitute them with grilled veggies - brought out a nice mix of grilled onions, peppers, zucchini and tomato."

  • "Friendly service and good food at a reasonable price 1/2 block off North Michigan Avenue. YUM! Cozy/close interior includes shallow alcoves for some diners, but those seem to amplify the noise (music plus people's voices). Enjoyed a mezza platter (your choice of 3 appetizers) with pita bread -- just enough for 2 without overfilling us before the entrees. Combo kebabs provided a nice quantity of grilled chicken, beef, and lulla (ground beef & lamb with spices, form into sausage shapes -- very tasty) with rice pilaf. My spouse was "daring" with a whole platter of stuffed grape leaves, which some places are too tough/sour/vinegary for me, but these were good. Will return to try more Armenian options. Many vegetarian choices, too."
