A word from Saxon + Parole
Saxon + Parole, conceived by the award-winning AvroKO Hospitality Group and Executive Chef Brad Farmerie, creators of NoLIta's PUBLIC, brings a global approach to traditional grill fare, within a warm and inviting space on the Bowery. The 112-seat restaurant – named after two prize-winning, New York-bred racehorses – features rich design elements and modernist details, paying homage to the numerous horse stables that once populated Lower Manhattan. The menu explores traditional grill fare, with a focus on domestic meat and seafood, as well as seasonal and sustainable produce. Diners can expect a global twist in the seasoning, cooking methods, and ingredients – highlighted in dishes such as 28-day dry-aged NY strip steak with bone-marrow béarnaise, Heritage farms USA roasted pork rack with purple-potato salad, and roasted Atlantic cod with a tomato-caper broth, Manila clams, braised fennel, white beans and Tuscan kaleContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "This place has a great vibe - lots of energy and friendly folks. The menu is varied and interesting. They even have something for vegetarians! Servers were attentive but not interruptive; very hospitable. And the s'mores dessert is to die for! We'd definitely head back for another fun night!"

  • "This place was great. I went there with my girlfriend and we were both really pleased with our meals. The food came quickly and was very good! We also split one of their Truffled Portobello mousse pots as an appetizer which was amazing. the service was very friendly and un-intrusive. Overall the experience was great, not overly expensive, but also not cheap by any means. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family who want to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "Had 4 courses and were all good. I asked for the s'mores dessert twice since I thought it could have been done better: I asked for extra cookies and it was just perfect. Butter can be improved as to match the bread!"

  • "The food and ambiance here are exceptional. The mushroom mousse and s'mores dessert were truly memorable. We came for my best friend's birthday and it was worth every penny! I plan on taking my sister for hers as well and cannot wait to go back!"

  • "Everything was beautiful, including the food presentation, but the cheese portions were actually ridiculously small (as someone who makes a habit of ordering charcuterie and cheese plates), the tomato base for my cod a bit too salty, and the clams a bit off--perhaps undercooked. My cocktail was good, but a bit gimmicky with olive oil floating on top and the smoky clarity of the mescal overpowered. My friend's duck looked well prepared, though I did not try it myself."

  • "I loved coming to this place. The music was great. The atmosphere was just what I like. The cocktails were fantastic. We ate at the bar and K alli and Richard took care of us. They were very helpful and welcoming. I would definitely come back to Saxon. We had a great experience."

  • "Everything was perfect. S + P honored my request for a table in the front dining room (birthday request) as well as making no mention or candles for the occasion (also as per request). Entire wait staff was excellent. Waiter was very knowledgeable about food, wine and what went well with what."

  • "My fiance (now wife) and I took our parents to S&P before our wedding. As always, the food was exceptional and the experience was amazing. The mood and music was vibrant and a great way to kick off the great weekend. We will definitely be back again."

  • "I love Saxon & parole, that burger and fries is freaking amazing as well as the brussel sprouts and celery gimlet cocktail. Service is great too, our server was really sweet. Can't wait for round 3!"

  • "Came here with my boyfriend for a birthday and it was everything we wanted it to be. Unfortunately, service left a bit to be desired but it was also busy when we got there so that could have been why. Amazing food and cocktails."

  • "This place is great for brunch, dinner or drinks. They have a hip staff and cool menu without being overpriced. I love it."

  • "While the food was well prepared (when it finally arrived), the wait staff & front of house were indifferent and lacked customer service skills. There was an endless wait for our main course, and when we questioned our waiter, he didn't even check with the kitchen before replying that "it will be right out." Which of course, it wasn't. There was no need to stay for dessert, or for that matter, return again. There are so many good restaurants in the area that treat diners better than this. My suggestions it to take your business elsewhere."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday and he loved it! It has been a while since we went, but I do remember getting the bone marrow, and it was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back here again!"

  • "My favorite spot in the city. I eat or drink here 2-3x a week. Very cool vibe, but not excessively hipster."

  • "I booked the restaurant 1 Month in advance and noted the staff that I would be celebrating my 30th birthday. Upon arrival there were no congrats, no special hello whatsoever. Instead we were placed to stand and wait for our table for 5-10 minutes. Great start. The waiter was friendly but stressed and did not feel present. First and Main were great. Red cabbage badly cooked and not eatable. Waited 30mins before we could order dessert. Our waiter literally dissapeared. It was not fancy or special at all. No one asked if we enjoyed any of the food. I expected something totally different. Regarding their reviews in papers and general reputation. Atmosphere was good. But service more like a basic diner. Did not feel like tipping."

  • "This place was a great find. Three words- black shaved truffles. The entire meal was spectacular from start to finish. The crispy brussel sprouts were perfect. But save room for the s'mores- speechless on how good it was. We shared it but honestly you might want a serving all to yourself. Have already recommended to others and will definitely try and get back. It has been a while since enjoying a dinner that was this outstanding and memorable."

  • "We've eaten here before and the food has been superb. My only complaint, if any, is that if you're sitting in the bar tables or the first room the noise can be overpowering, particularly if you're dining with older individuals. Luckily, we asked the hostess if they could give us a quiet table in back, my father has a hard time hearing, and they were more than happy to accommodate us. We had a wonderful meal, thank you!"

  • "Saxon and Parole has such potential, it has a great ambiance and very cute decor. Most of my group was happy with their meals (though most were cold by the time they came out) - I was not. I ordered a pork belly sandwich, that was essentially fat slabs on a soggy bun. The bloody Mary bar is a joke - its a mess. But that major disappointment that day boils down to the service. They claimed to be short staffed, but what I don’t understand is that only a quarter of the tables were occupied when we were there. It took 45 minutes to even GET A MENU! What blows my mind is that there was no attempt to apologize for the situation. I was embarrassed to have chosen this place for brunch with my group of friends."

  • "Overall the experience was great. Food is delicious and interesting, highly recommend the pork chops. It's not an inexpensive evening, but at the same time we left feeling that we had a good and satisfying dinner. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. We ventured east from the west village and will make this trip again..."

  • "A comfortable rustic atmosphere greats you as warmly as the staff. The food/drink creations and presentation are of quite good quality and the staff cares for you without at all hovering. We were there for Valentines 2014 so only experienced the prix fixe menu (which was varied and enjoyable) - but the standard menu looks exceptional. Be prepared for cozy bristro-style dining, as with many city restaurants space is at a premium. The atmosphere was 'up' and lively without being annoying loud - for us far preferable to stuffy silence."

  • "Make no mistake even though we went there to get ripped off, as going out on Valentines Day normally is....we were very happy with the food and the waiter and the sommelier. We are not regular meat eaters but we had the rib-eye for two. My wife says it was as good as Peter Leuger's, I say it's a tie. But, it was great. We did not feel ripped off even on valentines day!! Japanese single malt was a treat as well. Enjoy"

  • "(and) Im not quite sure I have my finger firmly on the pulse here, but there was something about every server/bartender/door staff I interacted with...seems to be a lack of general warmth. They were all professional...but the experience left us feeling there is something a tad off in the genuine department. Ill chalk it up to endless winter but still...."

  • "This was such a great find. Everything we had for dinner was amazing. Our waiter knew absolutely everything about the menu, even though they had just switched out a few things on the menu. The cocktails were delicious and inventive. The Meat and Cheese was fantastic to start. I had the pork chop and my boyfriend had the duck. Loved everything that came to our table. Would definitely go again."

  • "I heard great things about Saxon & Parole, and did enjoy the ambience and great service, but the food was just okay and extremely overpriced. The steak was so fatty it was hard to believe any restaurant would even serve something like that. A good bar scene, but don't bother with the food."

  • "Excellent setting for a Monday night catch up dinner with old friends. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good was spectacular. The burratta special was out of this world and the burger was just as delicious as I remembered from my first time around."

  • "This was easily one of the best dinners I've ever had. I work in the restaurant business and absolutely love great food and my nights out. This is actually my first time ever writing a review... But I've been telling everyone I know to go to Saxon & Parole if they visit NYC, so why not say it here too! All the food was excellent. Some of the best oysters we've ever had and although we loved everything, the pork chop (which normally neither of us order) was incredible. Also, our server, Emily was awesome. She made sure everything was perfect. Especially in choosing wine, ensuring she was giving us the best recommendation. In fact the whole staff was great and really worked as a team to create a truely memorable experience."

  • "We love coming to S&P but boy it can be an expensive night out. There is nothing special about the gin and tonics to justify the price and expect to pay no less than $150 per head. Saying that we did have 3 course meal and it was a special occasion. The food is delicious although slightly rich, but well worth the extra calories :) The desserts are not what you expect so it was nice, and it finished our evening off quite nicely. I would recommend S&P any day. Service is consistent, food is tasty and its a nice ambiance. ***They are not forthcoming in offering a coat check but they do have one you just have to ask***"

  • "I went with a group of friends and my family and this place was incredible. The cocktails were unique and delicious. I got a campari champagne concoction served in a little bottle, which was fantastic. As a group we ordered a Rib Eye special with incredible sides (their shisito peppers are to die for) - the steak was like butter and we polished it. The music is great, the atmosphere is wonderful and there is a ton of space, which is always a huge plus for me in NYC."

  • "I was hosting a group from out of town and decided to give S+P a try. We went for a weekend evening reservation for 5. The table was ready for us when we arrived, and we didn't have to wait to sit down. The wait staff was professional and friendly, but a little slow. The main courses were a bit overshadowed by the side dishes (try the polenta). However, the desserts were amazing. I ordered the chocolate pudding s'more and was blown away. It was served in a jar full of smoke that made the marshmallow topping taste like it was cooked over a campfire. Above the theatrics of presentation, the quality of the chocolate pudding was beyond compare. I would recommend going just for dessert!"
