  • "My husband and I go out to eat a lot. One of the things we love is to taste authentic good food - whether it be from the Mediterranean or right here at home. Hence, we were excited for some Alberta beef. But the steak we had at the Sawmill, paired with the house salad, mashed potatoes and one very large piece of broccoli (this was described as vegetables) was disappointing. The food should have been exquisite but it was disappointing - in part perhaps because the restaurant had a "feed the masses" or buffet feel to it. In any case, I wouldn't go back to it and for all you foodies out there, I wouldn't recommend it. "

  • "The food was not as good as in the past. The Prime Rib was raw and the chicken was very ordinary. The service was great and our waiter was a dream. It was nice to be able to sit and talk for the entire evening. Going there was my idea and I will probably return in the future but I don't think our monthly group would go back."

Tea was slow to arrive, no refills were offered and the left overs that we asked to have packed the waiter threw out in the garbage. I have to say that Nathan needs some refreshing on his skills of service to patrons."

  • "The service was fantastic - our waiter, an older gentleman, had clearly been doing this as a career for years and his service was impeccable. The food on the other hand was mediocre. Not bad, not good, just...okay. Everything was just a little bland and soggy. For the price, I expect a little better. French onion soup was blah. My steak (filet mignon) was pretty good and cooked just right. Will I go back? The Sawmill just seems to be one of those places that I go to once every 18 months or so and have the same sort of experience and then just enough time passes that I've forgotten if it's good or bad and I try it again with essentially the same results. So I guess I'll see you again in September, 2015. Oh - I love that sesame sauce!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went to the sawmill the other night and really enjoyed our mean it was prompt in getting our food out to us but other then bringing us out food I felt the waitress pretty much ignored us I wasent offered another drink when I finished mine and after our meal I asked for the bill and I waited almost 30 minits to get it.... We were sitting right beside the waitress console so a little ridiculous but amazeing food"

  • "A table of four receiving excellent service. We visited quite a while and were not feeling rushed to leave. Server was gracious and did a good job. Agreeably friendly without going overboard. Good sense of humor. Food came out - everyone had something different and there wasn't a complaint about anything. There was a large group present celebrating a birthday and they were in an area that seemed to be set up just for them. (All the tables were removed when they left). It was a bit difficult for our conversation while they were giving speeches and singing but it was nice to see them having a good time. We would look forward to eating here again. Nice to make reservations so easily on this site. Worked like a charm."

  • "Food always good at this restaurant While we were there, a group was celebrating the 72nd birthday of the deputy Mayor of Mundre. The group was in the middle of the restaurant, people stood up and gave long drawn out speeches. This was totally inappropriate for a public dining area, this group should have been segregated into a separate area rather than being allowed to intrude upon the dining experience of all the other diners in the restaurant. They then had a choir singing both happy birthday and songs in ukraiinian. No really, this was going on. And it was only his 72nd birthday, wasn't even a milestone or anything"

  • "Went for Sunday brunch as a family this time. Wife & I were here a week ago and breakfast was great. When we went this week it was terrible. Scrambled eggs were rubbery, eggs benedict were under cooked bad. Bacon was way to burnt this time and the coffee was brutal. The only good thing this morning was the salad bar cause it didn't involve any cooking. Oh, the ham was excellent as well. Guess it just depends on who's cooking on that day. Not sure if I'd go back to that location, might have to try a different one."

  • "Went on friday night made reservations I went early as it was 2 lady's 50th birthday. Service was poor and food was cold. I used my loyalty card so loyalty points were used. No special treatment for birthday ladies when he brought our dessert one of the ladies was away from table. Had to get attention of waiter to get coffee cream and had to flag down to get dessert. Very disappointed."

Said the Mongolie Grill or Old Spagetti Factory are more her speed. However, we know you run a steak house, and for we carnivores, it was wonderful. I will be back."

  • "We came here with a group of ten for a birthday party. Sat at 7:30 didn't leave tell 10:30- VERY SLOW. When dinner did arrive only 4 of the meals came, we waited a good 15 minutes for the remainder of the meals to come. After the meals arrived no one came around with the options for the potatoes, I had to ask our waiter 3 times to bring it, it took a good 10 minutes before it arrived, and by that time the potatoes were cold. My boyfriends steak was cooked medium well when it was supposed to be cooked rare, the waiter attempted to tell him that's rare, regardless it got sent back and it took 15 minutes by this time everyone was finished eating. This was just some of the problems"

We asked to move but the waitress claimed the booth we wanted was waiting for a nother reservation which didnt arrive untill 3/4 through our meal.. Great food made up for the seating though."

  • "We wanted a 5:00 reservation, but couldn't get it. The available options were 4:30 or 7:00. We took 4:30. When we left at 6 about 80% of the tables were unoccupied. Next time we will phone the restaurant for our reservation - we may be able to get a realistic one."

  • "We've made several trips to Sawmill restaurants in the Edmonton area. The quality of food and drink is consistent and good, though I am baffled at the number of times I've asked for a medium steak and gotten something between blue and rare. I've come to expect that I will have to send my steak back. I appreciate your happy hour specials on the bar side. Your wait staff is good but Bruno at Capilano stands heads and shoulders above the rest. If he was on an episode of "Undercover Boss" you would be putting him in charge of server training and performance, AND sending him somewhere warm for a long period of time!"

  • "I have a Sawmill Card and decided that this was where I would go for my Birthday Dinner. It was great and we all enjoyed ourselves. Did have a couple hiccups throughout the evening. My Waitress keep giving my orders to my Husband from Dinner to Desert. The Desert that I choice was okay at best. I did not enjoy the hard Chocolate bites in my Sundae and the menu only says Brownie, nothing about it having pecans in it. So my Desert went uneaten. Other then that they were friendly and will go again."

Our server, Bruno, was very professional & attentive, made it an even more enjoyable dining experience!. The food came out in a timely manner & was hot, well prepared, & delicious. My child's meal was perfect & the Prime Rib dishes were done to order: medium rare & were tasty, love the steak sauce. The service, atmosphere, & menu are exceptional! Very nice outing!   • "Went out for my birthday and this place was close so my wife and I went. I ordered the "undecided" which has a variety of items on it. The steak was supposed to be medium but it was allot more rare than that. Looked like I killed something on my plate and the blood invaded my baked potato and broccoli. The steak was a Top sirloin but there was nothing top about it. Tough to cut and even harder to chew, which didn't change after they cooked it more so it would stop bleeding. The shrimp tasted and felt like it was made quite awhile ago and they just heated it up when needed. The best part turned out to be the ribs which were excellent."

  • "We have obtained at Sawmill from a few places of Sawmill. We do not like this Sawmill in Sherwood Park which is horrible! They forget most of what you order and it takes a very long time to get your food. We really love going to the Sawmill in Edmonton Capilano. The food in that Sawmill in Capilano is fantastic, the service is great and don't let you sit there for many hours w hen not necessary. Take up dinner at the Sawmill in Edmonton Capilano take up place and you would definately be a good place to go at any time."

  • "Food was less than poor. Ambience non existent. This was supposed to be a nice relaxed evening as a trat for a senior stff member. The next corse would come out before we could finish the first. No time for chit chat one eating which really didn't matter. Food was terrible. Felt like we were being rushed along. Fine. Happy to leave and will never be back. Horrible dinner choice. Stick to the 30 minute lunch crowd maybe. Hopefully soup and sandwiches are edible. Whatever you do don't go near any chicken, no matter what kind."

  • "We enjoy the food very much-I love that the steak grilling definitions are right in the menu. This really helps a lot.. Super place for a special family occasion. I love to go to the Sawmill-the service is so great. All the hostesses, waitresses and waiters are so friendly and attentive without being interruptive while you are dining. It's a great place to take someone for a pleasurable dining experience-particularly someone older who doesn't like a noisy, in crowd kind of place. They re-cooked my dads steak quickly to suite him . The menu is very easy to read and understand-the waiters are knowledgeable about the details you ask about the menu or the food."

  • "I love the service and ambiance at Sawmill but the menu rarely changes and there isn't many chicken options. I've ordered the chicken cordon blue twice now (which is amazing) BUT the chicken always has very dry parts to it. Possible freezer burn?? The butter chicken dish is really great though but there jut isn't a lot of options for someone that doesn't eat red meat."

  • "Prime rib taste good, only a little dry, because we cannot book our table earlier, so when the food arrive to our table, it's 8:45pm, the juicy prime rib lost it's juice, but with the help of Au Jus , plus horse radish sauce, it's still taste good."

  • "It took our server quite some time to greet us and take our drink orders. We noticed that she had trouble keeping up with all the tables in our area, not just us. We had to place our drink order twice with her and instead of bringing a Kokanee Gold we got Coke. We decided to order something simple and so we had the couples steak and lobster. After a longish wait, which we expected because of the large group, our food came. I always have a steak on the rare side, but mine was almost blue. My husbands medium steak was rare. The lobster was not hot, but there was no way we were sending anything back. We asked for the leftovers to be packaged, but she put his plate on top of mine, so my food did not make it into the package."

  • "New Year's Eve 2013. We planned an early dinner and we made a reservation. We were tucked up in the back corner of the restaurant in a spot not that easy to get in or out of. The food was just not up to Sawmill standards. My slim cut prime rib was chewy and overly well done. The cheesecake was really quite awful. Coffee was weak and the service was slow - always just one step behind. For example the condiments for the baked potatoe arrived after we had eaten a quarter of our meal. Without alcohol and only one dessert, our meals (2) were more than $75. Fairly high price for limited value."
