Savory Square BistroQuality Food in a Quiet AtmosphereWe had a great meal,. The food was fantastic, fresh fish, melt in your mouth short ribs, perfectly prepared veggies. The fish sauce was sweet and fruity followed by a mild spiciness. Staff was friendly and welcoming. A peaceful dinner that flowed at just the right pace. Why travel to Portsmouth or Newburyport looking for an elegant restaurant., there's one right in downtown Hampton. It's set back in Depot Square so it's easy to miss if your just traveling through. It's one of those hidden gems that everyone looks for. To top it off, the prices are very reasonable. The French Onion Soup, Seafood Chowder and Duck L'Orange were all to die for. Service was a little slow, as they appeared to be understaffed, and the room is not very acoustically sound, so you have to speak softly if you don't want others to hear you. The food was excellent and varied enough for 15 'locavore foodies' from California, Maine, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The food was well prepared (our order ranged from the New England classics to duck, steak frites, vegetarian zucchini linguine, artisanal cheeses, and lobster ice cream); the wine list was fine, and everyone found something new to try. The service was excellent and very personal, and we were able to have a family reunion dining experience that we all agreed was delicious and agreeable. Well worth the trip, food was excellent, service was excellent as well. I had Mahi Mahi, my wife had chicken, both excellent, but the real treat was the Gouda bites appetizer, like gourmet mozzarella sticks - highly recommended. Our waitress was personable and attentive.
