We made our reservation through Open Table knowing nothing about Savory Orient. What a pleasant surprise. The food was outstanding in freshness and flavor. Service was excellent. None of us had a complaint. Would not have stopped if it weren't for Open Table. Will be back!

Savory was a perfect place to spend vday! The staff was wonderful, the owner even came out to ask about our experience and to tell us about his creme brûlée. It was even better than he said! It was very very quiet but besides that we loved our experience very much!

We were the only ones dining @ 6:30 on a Tuesday. I don't understand why this place wasn't packed other than it is not on the main drag. Highly recommend the Asian Corn Fritters, the Sweet-Basil Lettuce Cups with minced chicken and the Tom Kha soup.

We had a lovely dinner and great choices for gluten free peeps too! They accommodate large parties without a charge. We had reserved 22. The host and waiters are always so lovely! It truly is a gem in our San Rafael hood.....

Ran in for a quick bite to eat and to check out this place ::: Our appetizer of Fried Corn Fritters was a 10/10 - perfectly crispy and flavorful with just a hint of kafir leaf, just outstanding! ::: Our two other samplings were not as impressive, we plan on returning to sample the menu more to truly judge if this is a real diamond in the rough...

Down a side street in downtown San Rafael sits Savory Orient. The food is over the top delicious, i could drink their sauces and the prices are very reasonable. Everything is promptly and beautifully served.

We go to this place often. First time using Open Table. It is the best Thai restaurant we've been to. The sauces are always clean, flavorful and have depth even when made veggie or with tofu. Sauces at other places have fallen flat when meat is removed, or are greasy. Veggies are fresh and crisp. Desserts are to die for! Everyone there is friendly and the service is wonderful. Such nice people!

I've found my new favorite Thai restaurant! I went here for the first time on my birthday. A friend had recommended we come here for the best Thai food in Marin, and they did not disappoint! I ordered the Panang street noodles but was a bit hesitant at first. I've ordered this dish before at another restaurant and found it to be entirely too salty, but they did an excellent job of combining flavors with perfectly cooked vegetables. The calamari was also fantastic, as well as the service. Overall a very pleasant experience.

We were a group of nine, and we had reserved. However, the staff still didn't appear to be ready for us. The first food came out after about 20 minutes, even though it was only salads and soups. After that, the main dishes came out in fairly good time, but one of us had to leave for an appointment. The restaurant was nearly empty, and the lunch took us an hour and fifteen minutes at least. Others enjoyed their food, but my yellow curry was boring and uninspired, as was the chicken satay that accompanied it. On the other hand, our waiter was unfailingly courteous. He was the bright spot of the meal. I wouldn't bother trying it again.

I brought my bride hernformlunch.mit was her birthday and it was our first visit. I had China iced tea , fresh veggie spring rolls 4 of em, and a bowl of Tom Yum Prawns. The spring rolls were good with a slit heat in the sauce. The soup was dandy. I couldn't find something that excited me on e lunch menu but the main menu was available. I'm looking forward to coming back for dinner.

Took my bride out for lunch on her birthday. It was quiet in the restaurant. I couldn't find much on thlunch menu so I ordered off the main menu. I had China iced tea, veggie Spring rolls, and Tom Yum Prawn soup. A nice light lunch that kept me on my diet. There were 4 spring rolls.. I would have preferred just three with a nice sauce with a touch of back heat. I loved the soup.. Fresh mushrooms popping on the top, a few shrimp hiding on the bottom and veg in the middle. Not spicy just tasty. I look forward to going back for dinner.

If you are looking for fresh, great tasting food, this is not it. It's OK but not worth going out for. For example, the lettuce wraps were OK but served in lettuce and spinach that was not chilled and looked like it had been sitting out for quite a while.

We chose Savory Orient for Valentine's Day, as our first time dining there, and we were not disappointed. It's a handsome and elegant dining room, that was clean and very comfortable. The menu is extensive, and includes daily specials, a variety of curries, poultry, seafood traditional Thai dishes and fresh vegetables. The service is friendly, but not intrusive and the staff is attentive. Excellent value for perfectly prepared, clean and flavorful favorites.

A very good addition to San Rafael's downtown dining resurgence. Well-prepared dishes from a variety of Asian cuisines, in an attractive room with attentive service. The special care for those with special dietary considerations--vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free--makes Savory Orient a truly welcoming establishment. [The soups are especially fine...clear-flavored, fresh and savory.]

We absolutely love Savoy Orient and have never been disappointed in our meal or time spent at this beautiful restaurant and its Thai, husband/wife owners, who are charming as can be!!! We have always enjoyed the healthy and fresh preparation of Thai food and love visiting Thailand to experience it first hand. Back home, it doesn't get much better than Savory Orient to reproduce such an experience! The presentation is beautiful with great care shown in the selection of fresh vegetables, finely sliced, light sauces and a great variety of selections on the menu. We always ask Tas what her recommendations for the evening are. We add in a few of our own and all share the plates. A real gem!
