Sava'smadness for mamasRecently went to Sava's for Mother's Day. Anticipating a crowd, I made reservations but still waited 30 minutes after my scheduled time for a table. The pastries were especially delicious and the staff is very attentive about keeping all the dishes full. Not only was the table ready when we arrived, but they were very accomodating when we needed to include additional guests beyond our reservation. I had a burger and sweet potato fries, my friend had brunch. Our server was pretty attentive overall, but the food took a long time to finally come out. Other than that, no complaints! Our reservation was ready when we arrived. Service was friendly and efficient, food arrived promptly and everyone enjoyed the meal. The Sunday brunch is particularly amazing. Their menu has an array of dishes and prices, so if you do not want to spend over $25 on a main course, you can still get a generous salad or sandwich for around $10. Their wine list is not that fantastic to me, but their cocktails are great and so is their beer selection. The menu has a wide range of items, ranging from burgers and sandwiches to more serious meals. You might think the serious items suffer for this, but they are always excellent. When my sister was in town last year, we went there two days in a row, because we couldn't think of anywhere we liked better! I am especially fond of their small plates, particularly the risotto balls. The small and large greek salads are also wonderful. Sava's is a notable exception to the Ann Arbor service dilemma. Offering tasty comfort food with a variety of updates (vegetarian substitutes for traditional meat offerings, spices galore, fresh versus processed), Sava's is great for a long lunch or quick bite before or after a show at Hill Auditorium or a film at the State Theatre. The staff is friendly, fast and well-schooled on both the food and drink menus. Seating can accommodate large parties as well as a romantic dinner and the atmosphere is lively, if a bit loud.
