A word from Sava's
Sava's Restaurant, originally Sava's State Street Cafe, opened June of '07 at a small location across from our current space. We started small, every year adding, changing, and working with our customers to achieve an atmosphere and menu that we were proud of. The quaint cafe was merely a jumping off point for the elaborate expansion that later followed. In August of '09 we opened Sava's Restaurant in the beautiful location we're in today, making a name for ourselves based on great service, a young, welcoming atmosphere, & delicious dishes.
We cater to a wide range of clientele, including students, professors, townies, out-of-towners – we open our doors to everyone. From our eclectic menu our best dishes are homemade, with quality ingredients from local vendors. We like Michigan beef, produce, and beer! Join us and experience Sava's for yourself!

I love this place! It's definitely a date place, but also great for a family after a Michigan win! The food is of the highest quality and ingredients, the service is always top-notch, and I am extremely picky about both. Top three best places in Ann Arbor!

Sava's is quickly becoming my absolute favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor. Not only can you walk to campus from their location, but the food is outstanding. They have a great menu and the problem is deciding what to get. I have never had a bad meal there, nor had any of the other diners I ate with. They also have great vegetarian options as well. So whether you have a sandwich, a burger or an entree, you are bound to leave happy...very happy!

My wife and I had dinner at Sava's several weeks ago and had a memorable evening with great service and very good food. The appetizers and entrees were exceptional. The dessert so-so and the coffee just passable. Ambiance was nice. We returned this past weekend and were somewhat dissapointed. The appetizer was marginal. My wife's Greek salad with salmon was very good. Instead of ordering a a main entree I ordered a mushroom/Swiss cheese burger with sweet potato fries. When it finally arrived it was almost stone cold. I sent it back (no apologies from the waiter) and in their haste to replace it for me the burger was very medium rare, as opposed to the medium it was supposed to be. Since we were running out of time I didn't return the second plate. The waiter didn't return to ask me how it was..I think he knew when he bought it to the table for the second time that it still wasn't correct. They have a good thing going but they really need to be more attentive to what is coming out of the kitchen. Not everyone goes there for the bar scene.

  • No understanding of the word "reservation"

    Dined on 11/19/2014
We've dined at Sava's before on several occasions, and the food is what brings us back. We made a reservation this time because we were on our way to a concert. Unfortunately, the region was hit with a snowstorm, but I called as we were on our way to let the restaurant know that we would be about 15 minutes late. I was assured that there would be no problem seating us when we arrived. But when we got to the restaurant, we were told that the people at our table were "lingering." What would have happened if we were on time?! Although we told the hostess that we had limited time, they kept us waiting, and seated several parties of our size before they seated us. I understand that a restaurant can assume we are not coming if we are late, but we extended the courtesy of advising them of our delay and were told that they could accommodate us. As we were on our way out, the hostess told us that our table was ready. Once we were seated, it was great. We told the server of our time restriction, she put our order in promptly, and we were served without delay. Great comfort food here, especially the mac n' cheese! But I'll find someplace else to dine if I'm on a schedule. Also, a word to the wise. This restaurant can be noisy, although it was not on this occason.

We celebrated a family birthday at Sava and had a wonderful evening. It was very busy in Ann Arbor that evening but we had reservations and were seated promptly. The young man who served us was great. He was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and gave us great recommendations for appetizers and main dishes. We were all happy with our food will definitely go back to Sava.

Another Ann Arbor Restaurant that has settled into its own level of "good enough". The service was unfocused and disinterested, although the server was knowledgeable. The food was ok. Good salad, good burger, over cooked and over sauced shrimp. Drinks were expensive and kind of amateur. They do get points for thanking us as we were leaving. Overall, kind of disappointing.

A fine restaurant with a great menu, good wine list, and a welcoming ambiance, all just a block from the University of Michigan central campus. Well, I'm old enough to remember when this property was Zanzibar (how I miss that ambiance and menu) ... but Sava's is nice addition tothe Ann Arbor food scene. I met a few friends here for dinner prior to a concert outing around the block at the Hill Auditorium. We are essentially an adventurous bunch, so an appetizer, a salad, and two entrees and a dessert were shared. There were no complaints! The service was offered by a lovely gracious lady. Just a little noisy since the ceilings are high and the tapestries from the original Zanzibar didn't fit the goals of this operation. My friends and I left unhurried and satisfied. All in all, a fine outing that requires further exploration. I will definitely return...

This place keeps getting better and better. We first found this place in April 2014 when visiting AA for college purposes. We've been back about 8 times now and it's just terrific. I took my daughter and her friends to dinner the other night and they had an entire menu of gluten-free options for one of our diners. Outstanding!

Sava's is fairly close to campus, right on State St. So most surrounding restaurants are cheaper, good for college students, nothing fancy. But Sava's has a pretty nice variety of good food and gourmet burgers. The food was pretty good, maybe not worth the price. But if students ever want to go for something fancier without having to walk downtown, it's a good place

Wonderful brunch atmosphere, albeit a bit loud (seated upstairs). Our party ordered a combination of bloody Mary's, omelettes, huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, and eggs bennie. Taste was great with generous portion sizes and remarkable service. All the food came out according to our order (including several add-ons/substitutions). Price was reasonable. The only drawback was that our booth was a bit of a squeeze for a party of 5. Would definitely come back, perhaps to try their lunch or dinner menu next time as it appears this place would have a great happy hour atmosphere.

We usually go for dinner at Sava's before a concert at the Hill or Rackham. The food is very good. However, having such a big group up stairs talking/screaming so loud (happy hour?) is very annoying. We were sitting in a booth and couldn't understand each other very well. That was no fun.

Burgers were dry and kind of Luke warm and was not warm throughout my whole meal. The table was sticky. The outdoor table was placed so close to the table next to us that we could not fit a chair in between the person sitting at the next table and our table. The waitress was pretty slow about bringing us bill and did not bring refills for beverages. While we arrived early for our reservation we requested a table outside multiple times before recieving one. So I thought that communication between hostess and seaters was not as good as it should have been. I most likely will not be going back to savas and won't be recommending it to anyone else.

The atmosphere and menu offerings were good. I appreciated Lambic as a beer choice. The Chicken Strazzapreti was unexpectedly dry. The flavors were there, but to me the term "cream sauce" really doesn't mean dry pasta- which it was. My feel is that I may have had an uncharacteristically poorly executed dish, as my general vibe is that this is a good foodie destination.

We have eaten at Sava often. It is the only restaurant in the area that will take a reservation. The food was overall good, but one person's chicken was not cooked through. I had a delicious pasta dish that I have almost every time I eat there. The service is always good and we get the booth which we ask for when we make the reservation. the restaurant is very pleasant but very noisy. We were looking forward to a nice pre-concert dinner, but ended up with a very disappointing meal. Service was extremely slow. Our choice of appetizers sounded great, but were poorly executed. Short rib pierogies were dry on the inside and the dough was too thick and dry also. I doubt if they were ever boiled. The tuna tartar was served poke style with seaweed and taro chips, but the tuna was totally lacking seasoning, cried out for soy. The goat cheese tart was heavy, more like a cheesecake. Entrees were better but overpriced, as was the wine. Half way through we were assigned a new waitress who worked hard to turn it around and comped us a few of the items we had complained about. I'm glad the concert was fabulous and saved the night.
