Satterfield’s Restaurant & Catering, located in the heart of Cahaba Heights, right behind the Summit, is one of Birmingham’s favorite dinner destinations. The freshest and best ingredients, friendly and knowledgeable staff and elegant ambiance ensure that your occasion will be memorable. Pastry chef and owner, Becky Satterfield has built her restaurant upon the principle that fine dining doesn’t have to be pretentious, but that it must be relaxing for each guest and that every possible detail should be attended.

The menu is a daily changing mix of “Old World flavors and New World sensibilities” that offers familiar favorites—steaks, fresh seafood, veal, rabbit, quail—served with French, Italian, Spanish or Mediterranean influences.

There is a chef’s counter, patio and full service bar, where the full menu is also served.

Live music every Wednesday and Friday.

  • "My wife and I dined at Satterfield's on Friday August 15. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated promptly but then didn't see our server (or a menu) for 10 minutes. I was almost ready to walk out when she finally came. Once we ordered and received our food, I noticed that my fish (pan-seared Wahoo) was over-done so I mentioned it the manager. He took my plate back and promised a quick replacement. The replacement piece of fish was slightly over-cooked on the outside and RAW on the inside, I barely touched it. He offered to bring me something else from the menu but we didn't have time for them to try again. He was nice enough to comp my dinner and a dessert. I would not recommend this restaurant and we will not be back."

This was much more rare than I requested. My spouce was very delighted with her roast. I'm uncertain if I or we will return anytime soon. Thanks"

We enjoy sitting at the Chef's counter (seats are always available- on time!) and watching the preparation of all the fabulous food that comes from this kitchen... and sometimes they give out samples!! It is never a problem to change a set up on an entrée or substitute a sides. The wait staff are professional, courteous, and aim to please. Wine list certainly is notable and has 'something for everybody'. Despite the recent departure of the head chef - the food, service and experience remain the same... possibly even better (at least things in the kitchen seem to run more smoothly then times in the past~)!! Make your reservation and ENJOY!!"

  • "Very happy with the service. The recommendations were awesome, I hope they keep the Pork Coddled Egg on the menu full time! The porterhouse flavoring was awesome, however I had some pretty tough ligaments in mine. For that I gave food 4 out of 5 stars - but overall is still a 5."

  • "We had a wonderful meal on Monday night to celebrate a birthday. They even printed on the menu "Happy birthday!" which was a nice touch. Two in our group ordered the snapper (which was incredible) and the other two ordered the duck which they said was divine. We started with oysters and the bisque and both were exceptional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "We arrived early, so we went to the bar. We were immediately waited on and treated very nice. Once we were seated for dinner our server was right there to help us with our ordering. It was our first time at this restaurant and she was very helpful. Her suggestions from appetizers, wine meal and the dessert was spot on. We will definitely go back. Thanks to Open Table as well for making a reservation less complicated."

One diner had the pork chop which she did not enjoy It was not tender and the relish was much too spicy for her taste. The service was fast and friendly. We all had desserts, two beignets with peaches, one crème brulee and a pot of chocolate. All were delicious."

  • "Well, I don't know how much better Highlands or HotnHot could be than Satterfield's on June 3. I ordered sea scallops with mushroom risotto and my wife ordered lamb chops. Both entrees were excellent, as was the appetizer ( a new creation by the chef). Service was also excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful. We will "stay in our area" rather than traveling downtown where the lights may be bright but parking is hard to find."

  • "We began our evening with a glass of champagne in the bar. At $15/glass before tax it was $40/two with tip which is way too expensive. The noise level was so loud it felt like we had to shout to speak. The food was fantastic and the server was good but for a night when the restaurant wasn't full it took way to long for our food to be served. It wasn't the server, who was very attentive, it was the food coming out of the kitchen. I got the red snapper which was a 4-6 oz piece which was good put small. The dining room was smoky from the kitchen and when I got home my cotton tee shirt smelled of smoke. "

  • "We have dined at Satterfield's more than 10X as our go-to restaurant for fine dining in Birmingham. We prefer it to the Southside better known places. Satterfield's recently changed chefs. Although not a vegetarian, I have enjoyed vegetable plates at Satterfield's many times. The previous chef, Haller Magee, freshly prepared good-sized portions of vegetables without salt at a fair price. The new chef prepared overpriced ($25) and salty vegetables and pasta (??) in puny portions despite specific instructions to the server for large portions of unsalted, non-starchy vegetables (e.g. potatoes). This chef doesn't know starch from shinola and believes the southern tradition of mac and cheese as a vegetable. Listen to and don't cheat customers."

  • "The wife and I went to Satterfield's for the first time for her birthday dinner. We sat at the bar and had a couple drinks before being seated. The bar is quite nice and relaxing, with very good drinks (great dirty martini!). For the meal I had the gulf snapper over risotto and she had the scallops. While the snapper and risotto were very good, the scallops were some of the best that I've had. They were cooked to perfection. It is definitely a special occasion type place for us because it is a bit pricey. However, you definitely get what you pay for. If there is one tiny criticism, we were very close to the neighboring diners making it a bit awkward to hold a conversation. I believe next time we will just eat in the bar area!"

  • "I'm from out-of-town, and found this restaurant thru Opentable. This restaurant is simply awesome. Every part of the experience was first rate. The food was outstanding. Any bread offered must be tried. Appetizers sizzled. Entree's were fantastic. Dessert was a must. Service was exceptional too. I recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Birmingham. My only caution is that cabbing to the restaurant is recommended. It is not in the city proper, and is a bit difficult to locate."

They were very nice to recongize us as we walked in and throughout the meal with small touches related to the anniversary theme. Ambiance was good, and service was very good and helpful. However, don't go there hungry. Portions are small, particularly relative to the price you pay. Definitely paying for ambiance, not food. Taste was very good - just not enough of the entree there- it was more about pretentious presentation than a satisfying meal. If that is what you like - enjoy."

  • "We were in town for the night on our way back to TN from New Orleans and were glad Satterfield's was open on a Monday night. After all the great food in New Orleans we were not disappointed. We sat at the chefs counter, enjoyed several dishes and the service was excellent. Very impressive wine list too. We'd definitely return and highly recommend Satterfield's to food lovers."

The Red Snapper was a generous portion served over a veggie enhanced risotto. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The bread assortment that preceded the entree was wonderful, each variety on a par with the others. The soft-shell crab appetizer was quite delicious. As a person with some food allergies, I must express appreciation for the helpfulness of our server in working with me in selecting my course options. I would definitely go back."

  • "Never been to Birmingham before and looked for a local restaurant (non-chain). Satterfield's sounded good and was better than the reviews. Great service. We were looking at a wine and he suggested an alternative which actually was cheaper (not what typical happens) and proved to be quite enjoyable. He was very helpful with describing the menu items and we were very pleased with our selections (Snapper and duck dishes). It was a somewhat quiet Thursday night so the noise level was very low. Would definitely go again."
