A word from Satterfield’s Restaurant
Satterfield’s Restaurant & Catering, located in the heart of Cahaba Heights, right behind the Summit, is one of Birmingham’s favorite dinner destinations. The freshest and best ingredients, friendly and knowledgeable staff and elegant ambiance ensure that your occasion will be memorable. Pastry chef and owner, Becky Satterfield has built her restaurant upon the principle that fine dining doesn’t have to be pretentious, but that it must be relaxing for each guest and that every possible detail should be attended.

The menu is a daily changing mix of “Old World flavors and New World sensibilities” that offers familiar favorites—steaks, fresh seafood, veal, rabbit, quail—served with French, Italian, Spanish or Mediterranean influences.

There is a chef’s counter, patio and full service bar, where the full menu is also served.

Live music every Wednesday and Friday.

  • Entrees were fine...appetizer was not so good

All in all, the restaurant's entrees were fine...unfortunately, I got off to a bad start when I ordered appetizers. Looking to split appetizers among our table, I made the mistake of ordering the charcuterie plate...thinking it could be easily split...well, two thin slices of salami, a half a slice of prosciutto cut into two, and two slices of capicola ham do not make a very fulfilling charcuterie plate. Additionally, there was also a piece of head cheese, a pickled okra (1) sliced in two and three wedges of white bread toasted to round it out....all for $14...I inquired with the waitress about the lack of substance on the charcuterie Plate and she informed me that it was exactly as it was supposed to be...for a restaurant of this caliber, it was hard to get over this slight (both the food and the server's).

I recently had jaw surgery, which prevents me from consuming anything other than a liquid for 6 weeks. Surgery can't and won't prevent me from doing what I love the most, eating at fine dining restaurants! I would just have to focus on soup and in some cases request that the ingredients be blended into the base. Based on our patronage at many of the restaurants, I expected the chefs and staff to work with me. Up until visiting Satterfields I had been very disappointed. Not only did the chef blend the protein and garnishes into the incredible soup, but the server SUGGESTED 2 off the menu purées as an appetizer! I almost cried I was so happy! Satterfields went the extra mile and made me forget that I have this temporary set back! Thank you!

First time visit to Satterfield's - mid-week dining - sophisticated ambiance - skilled wait staff - delicious meal. Enjoyed the perfectly seasoned shrimp & grits (large shrimp with tails on top of dense grits - perfect!) and light & smooth creme brûlée (this version has a thick, hard & crunchy caramel coating on top - different than most I've exoerinced in Paris and other parts of Europe but enjoyed it just the same). Will return!

Food had good taste but pork tenderloin was cut in such a thick piece that to get it done in the middle, it was over cooked on the outside. it was so loud it was difficult to talk. Service was excellent. There was only one salad on the menu and not a real healthy vegetarian choice which my friends needed for their Eat to Live diet.

Satterfield's is a great restaurant in the Cahaba Heights Neighborhood. It's menu is small, but everything is delicious and locally sourced. Portions are somewhat small but the rich, flavorful food will not leave you wanting. They have excellent cocktails and beer and wine selection. There is nothing about it I wouldn't recommend.

This neighborhood restaurant lived up to all of the other reviews. A bit pricey and smaller portions than some. However, the fantastic service, good atmosphere, and delicious food made up for it. We started with the cheese plate, nicely presented, and made even better as our server explained each one with care and knowledge. We had salmon, chicken, and tuna. All were good. I would definitely go back and take friends. On a Friday night, with 6:30 reservations, we were surprised that the restaurant was almost empty. But, by 7:30, it was full....go early!

We chose to eat at Satterfield's based on a previous time there which was also great. When I made this reservation I added a note that we're celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and asked to sit at the bar where the chefs cook in front of you. That will be our requested seat every time we dine there. The chefs are friendly and answered any questions we had about the menu. It's fun to watch them work with such a passion and enjoyment at their jobs. They use fresh produce from local farmers which I believe really makes a difference. When they gave us our menus they had printed Happy 5th Anniversary at the top for us to keep! And also accented one of our desserts with the same message. A wonderful evening! Highly recommend it!

But my husband chicken was spectacular. When we sat down, there were not a lot of customers. But when we left, the place was buzzing with couples and conversation. Great staff and good food.

A second visit, after having dined here several months ago, was a wonderful eating experience as I treated my partner to her birthday dinner. Aside from the usual expected noise of a busy, popular restaurant (mainly a large table of men talking and laughing loudly) we had a perfect point of view of the room, facing the kitchen, and could enjoy our evening with great food and observational conversations.

i always seem to have the "misfortune" of going to towns while they're hosting restaurant week. This means it's harder to get a reservation, and the restaurants seem to have a lot of people who aren't accustomed to going to higher-quality restaurants. the employees get stressed out. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Plating was very nice. That said, I don't feel right reviewing this place after a visit during restaurant week. One thing that i didn't much care (even though it had nothing to do with the food, which was very nice) for was that the table we were at was too big for just a couple. it was awkward being sat so far away from my husband while we ate.

Hubby and I went on Sat night during B'ham restaurant week. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. Indoor décor was pleasant. We both ordered from the restaurant week menu. Both had butternut squash soup. Very tasty. We also ordered a bottle of wine. Bread basket had 4 different types of bread (2 pieces each). Very good. Both had Amberjack fish dish. It was good though I thought a tad fishy but hubby thought great. The dessert was really good - a beignet with peaches and vanilla ice cream. Our server was very good and she checked on us to refill our wine glasses. It was a little loud and had to ask server to repeat a few things when she was describing menu items. The hostess thanked us for coming in. Nice touch.

  • Terrible Experience
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 8/16/2014
The service was terrible. It took over 15 minutes to receive our first drink order. The next wait was for our main course which took over an hour. Once we completed our main courses, it was another 45 minutes before our waiter reappeared. At that point, we refused the pre-ordered desert and demanded the check. All of this was noticed by the hostess and the manger, but neither offered to expedite the service or apologize for the poor service. Also, both main courses were way too salty. I would not recommend Satterfield's to anyone.

My wife and I dined at Satterfield's on Friday August 15. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated promptly but then didn't see our server (or a menu) for 10 minutes. I was almost ready to walk out when she finally came. Once we ordered and received our food, I noticed that my fish (pan-seared Wahoo) was over-done so I mentioned it the manager. He took my plate back and promised a quick replacement. The replacement piece of fish was slightly over-cooked on the outside and RAW on the inside, I barely touched it. He offered to bring me something else from the menu but we didn't have time for them to try again. He was nice enough to comp my dinner and a dessert. I would not recommend this restaurant and we will not be back.

Satterfield's continues to be one of our favorites . We enjoy sitting at the Chef's counter (seats are always available- on time!) and watching the preparation of all the fabulous food that comes from this kitchen... and sometimes they give out samples!! It is never a problem to change a set up on an entrée or substitute a sides. The wait staff are professional, courteous, and aim to please. Wine list certainly is notable and has 'something for everybody'. Despite the recent departure of the head chef - the food, service and experience remain the same... possibly even better (at least things in the kitchen seem to run more smoothly then times in the past~)!! Make your reservation and ENJOY!!

We had a wonderful meal on Monday night to celebrate a birthday. They even printed on the menu "Happy birthday!" which was a nice touch. Two in our group ordered the snapper (which was incredible) and the other two ordered the duck which they said was divine. We started with oysters and the bisque and both were exceptional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
