A word from Satterfield’s Restaurant
Satterfield’s Restaurant & Catering, located in the heart of Cahaba Heights, right behind the Summit, is one of Birmingham’s favorite dinner destinations. The freshest and best ingredients, friendly and knowledgeable staff and elegant ambiance ensure that your occasion will be memorable. Pastry chef and owner, Becky Satterfield has built her restaurant upon the principle that fine dining doesn’t have to be pretentious, but that it must be relaxing for each guest and that every possible detail should be attended.

The menu is a daily changing mix of “Old World flavors and New World sensibilities” that offers familiar favorites—steaks, fresh seafood, veal, rabbit, quail—served with French, Italian, Spanish or Mediterranean influences.

There is a chef’s counter, patio and full service bar, where the full menu is also served.

Live music every Wednesday and Friday.

Diner Reviews
  • "Very pleasant service and tasty food. Menu is anything but ordinary. "

  • "Never been to Birmingham before and looked for a local restaurant (non-chain). Satterfield's sounded good and was better than the reviews. Great service. We were looking at a wine and he suggested an alternative which actually was cheaper (not what typical happens) and proved to be quite enjoyable. He was very helpful with describing the menu items and we were very pleased with our selections (Snapper and duck dishes). It was a somewhat quiet Thursday night so the noise level was very low. Would definitely go again."

  • "We have been eating at Satterfield's since it opened and have always had a pleasant experience there. The food and the service is always excellent, and the ambiance is welcoming and comfortable. Highly recommend. "

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary. We wanted to sit where we could observe the meal presentation and really enjoyed it! The food and service was excellent. We look forward to going again for a special event."

  • "Satterfield's is my "Go to" restaurant for out of town guests. This was an unusually quiet night at the restaurant, but we got excellent service. My boss was impressed."

  • "My wife and I went to Satterfield's for a celebratory dinner date after I got a promotion at work. The atmosphere is just what we were looking for, classy but not uptight. We started with the lobster skillet (don't remember the actual name), and it was my favorite dish all night. Lobster and shrimp in a creole sauce with a fried egg on top... amazing. The entrees were very good, but a little overpriced in my opinion. I had the swordfish with artichoke hearts (everything cooked perfectly) and my wife had the New York Strip. She thought the portion sizes were perfect, but I thought they were a little small. For dessert, I had the beignets and my wife had the homemade sorbets. Both were very light and delicious. Will visit again!"

  • "I love food, and I am somewhat of a foodie. Although I had never eaten anywhere really fancy. This place is top of the mark. By far the best food I have ever put into my mouth. It is expensive, but believe me when I tell you it is worth every penny. If you are looking for a true fine dining experience in Birmingham, this should be your first stop."

  • "The food is consistently great every time we go. Their menu changes periodically and keeps me coming back. I had to arroz dish and the rice and vegetables had tons of flavor and the mussels were succulent. The oysters are always fantastic. My date had the steak and said that it was perfect."

  • "Party of 4, March 24, 2014, early evening, main dining room. Had Pan Seared Gulf Swordfish, Filet Mignon x2, Beef Short Ribs. All very well prepared. Recommend Satterfields if you want to enjoy culinary artistry, by those who have an appreciation (and passion) for what they present."

  • "BHAM has garnered a lot attention for dining excellence and this is arguably my favorite white tablecloth restaurant in town. My wife and I had just our 4th visit and we've never had a meal that wasn't terrific. Nice place in terms of ambience. Attentive but nonintrusive staff. I had, this time, a duck duo (medium-cooked duck breast and then a leg/thigh confit; Brussel sprouts cooked in duck fat; and an amazing puree of rutabaga and orange. Just perfect. My wife had the red snapper, expertly cooked, served on some vegetables that kept it just over a bowl of incredibly rich fish broth. We also split the artisanal cheese plate...delicious."

  • "The food was really good and our server was very helpful, pleasant, and did a great job. The ambience leaves a little to be desired but overall it was an enjoyable experience. It is expensive but if you are willing to pay more for a delicious meal then it is worth it."

  • "I made reservations for my husband and I at Satterfield's to celebrate his birthday. Colleagues of mine have frequented Satterfield's for business dinners, but I had not had the opportunity to attend. So, this was our first time at Satterfield's and it was a treat! The service was impeccable, and the food was a true delight! We are self-proclaimed foodies, and each course and each mouthful was an experience unsurpassed. I would definitely recommend Satterfield's to anyone looking for a fantastic gourmet experience in a wonderfully comfortable environment. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Wonderful dining experience once again; Satterfields never disappoints! Bread offerings are sublime; there are non better. Both of our main courses were superb. My wife had spare ribs with crawfish risotto, while i had the steak with mushrooms, fingerling potatoes and broccolini, and then we shared the heavenly creme brulee. Our server, Jennifer, was focused, well versed with both dinner and wine menus and made helpful suggestions."

  • "Quiet and elegant restaurant some 1/2 mile from the Summit. It was not the easiest place to find, but the restaurant was surprisingly nice. Food was good, albeit a bit pricey. Menu was interesting and the guys in the group migrated to the filet. Wish I had been more adventuresome. Service was excellent. Great setting for a business dinner or romantic evening."

  • "Very nice restaurant! Great location and atmosphere. Bar is open and not crowded. Table was ready on time and our waitress was excellent! Yes the food was outstanding."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner with a nice variety of fresh offerings. The wine/beer list was also very good. Our servings were ample but not so much that we felt overfed. The only down side is that it is pretty noisey - my husband has a hearing deficit so we asked for, and were given, a quieter table. There are several booths and the private dining room that allow for a quieter table. We consider this one of our favorite "special occasioni" restaurants."

  • "This was our first visit to Satterfields, which happened to be on Valentines Day. We had made a reservation and we were seated right when we arrived. Our table was cozy - great ambience. There was live music (an upright bass and guitar) in the bar next door, so it was a great background atmosphere. The food was incredible - though we were disappointed that the famous "fruit & cheese plate" wasn't on the menu that night. Our server was personable, energetic and helpful. The only issue we had was the wait time for food. We had to ask for bread and the wait time for our meal was thirty minutes. Other than that - it was perfect. We will be back again!"

  • "Satterfield's was well recommended by a friend and surpassed the recommendation. Service was outstanding and the food was equally as good. It is now on my short list of favorites."

  • "Great food, great service, but very overpriced overall. We go here often on non-Holidays, so to pay eighty something dollars for three courses seemed very steep. You'd think for that type of price on a price fix Valentines menu it would include at least a glass of wine or an additional small course. At almost $30 per course it was quite an absurd price point. But, an enjoyable night nonetheless."

  • "Due to the cabin fever imposed by the recent inclement weather, we decided to celebrate Valentine's day on Thursday and were lucky enough to fine a cancellation. The service is the best. Our server was knowledgeable of the food and beverages and took excellent care of us while putting us completely at ease; a rare talent these days. The duck breast was perfectly prepared with an excellent sauce. The presentation was such a work of art I almost felt it a pity to eat it and briefly contemplated framing it. However, as a true duck junkie, my addiction overruled my aesthetic sentiments. The breast was perfectly prepared. In short, it took a strong application of moral imperative not to lick the plate. I highly recommend the beignets!"

  • "Not only our favorite restaurant in Birmingham, but as we travel around the States, Satterfields is the standard by which all others are measured. Excellent food, great service, and all at a price that is as economical as any 5-star restaurant in town."

  • "Tabitha was a great waitress. Very helpful. Food was well prepared, great blends of flavors. Cheese plate was a bit disappointing, and the presentation of it wa simply a regurgitation of the cheese names. Don't know if the guy was the monger or not, but would have expected more. Food was described well by Tabitha, and the flavors were well balanced, and unique. We had the scallops (perfectly cooked) and the rabbit papperadelle."

  • "I want to Sattrrfield's several months ago and thought it was quite good. We made reservations to go this past weekend and even ordered some of the same appetizers that we had the first time. One thing that I like in a restaurant is consistency and that was definitely lacking. I thought that my oysters were oily and not crispy and things were under seasoned. Everything on the menu looked really good and it was difficult to make a choice. I had a taste of everyone's appetizer and entrée - absolutely nothing stood out. I will not be going back."

  • "We started with beautifully crafted cocktails from one of the best bartender/sommeliers in town. Then headed over to the dining room to be charmed by our knowledgeable server and feted with the beautiful, delicious cuisine from one of Birmingham's best chefs. This made for a memorable night with dear friends. Delightful!"

  • "First visit New Year Eve - quite pleased so we booked anniversary dinner for 6PM -1-17-14. Took very long time to get our food and the place was not busy. Wife ordered medium well steak, I ordered fish. The fish was overcooked and therefore TOUGH, but the flavor was good. My wife's steak was on the rare size of medium rare - quite bloody - sent it back for recooking - another long wait and upon receipt of the recooked steak - it was between medium rare and medium - still bloody. Wife was so hunger by this time she ate. Medium well steak SHOULD NOT BLEED. NOT a place I care to visit again when there is little attention following a send back. Do not usually send back food for recook. In Houston - not typical service or food prep for $$$$$."

  • "My wife and I made an 8:30p reservation on a Saturday evening. We arrived about 30 minutes early to have a pre-meal cocktail. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and made very good drinks. My wife commented that her Cosmo was the best she has ever had. Our table was available promptly at 8:30 but we were not rushed from the bar to the table. The waiter had a good grasp of the menu. We both had salads which were very good. My wife had the trout served with a Meyer lemon vinaigrette which was good and I had the best duck I have ever eaten. The only gaff in the meal was the dessert...we shared the Lemon tart which was not to our liking."
