With special arrangement with Chef Dr. Foo, the main dining room can be reserved for a more formal private party with a minimum guaranty of 100 guests on Sunday-Thursday nights excluding New Year’s Eve, Valentine's and Mother's Days.

Join us for New Year's Eve celebration, Valentine's specials, Mother's Day and Father's Day specials, Independent Day, as well as Thai New Year "Song Kran Water Blessing ceremony and Khan Thoke Dinner" on April 13th, our King's Royal Birthday (December 5th) and Queen's Rayal Birthday (August 12th) with Thai classical dancers, and special Thai Dinners for the ceremony. For special Holidays meals, we offer "Thai Turkey" for Thanksgiving and "Rijstaffel (Indonesian Rice Table)" for Christmas Holidays celebration. You can create special events for your favorite Non-Profit organizations at SATAY on any night of the week (except Friday and Saturday nights and major holidays)and SATAY will donate 15% of the sale to the organization. SATAY has been an Austin tradition for 26 years with several Zagat -rated and local awards. We offer fine Thai cuisine and special menu items from countries surrounding the South China Seas with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan menu options. Our MSG free cooking and great tasting food have made us a favorite and an Austin landmark.

SATAY Restaurant was founded in 1987 by renowned chef and food scientist, Dr Foo Swasdee. Our focuses are using fresh, homegrown organic herbs, sustainable/local ingredients for recipes created by Chef Dr. Foo with nutrition concepts in mind. Seasonal menus offer dishes specially designed to give the healthiest options for weather changes. Examples are slow-cooked dishes such as Star-War, Duo-Beef Panang, Thai Gumbo, or our famous GET WELL SOUPS. We offers a full bar, banquet room for private party and business meetings, a tropical patio and an experience of culture, music and cuisine all at once.

  • "Satay serves up Thai Curry Roulette on Tuesday nights. Each Tuesday, Chef Foo prepares three different types of curry. Often it will be curries not found on the regular menu. Its an all you can eat feast! I highly recommend trying it out if you are a fan of curries. And leave room for dessertr! We had chocolate silk pie (amazing) and sticky rice with mango (very Thai!)."

  • "We were so disappointed in our experience at Satay. I used to eat there all the time many years ago and assume the full menu is still fantastic. But the limited menu choices for Valentines day were disappointing. The service was friendly, but so slow. We got our meals first after a long wait in a full room of hungry food-less people and felt like we were in a fish bowl. On top of that, the food wasn't that great. It was expensive for the portion size we got and we were so worn out from waiting, we left before dessert (even though we paid for it)."

By 7:45, we had only gotten appetizers, and each person's arrived separately at about 15 minute intervals. Our waitress walked out of the restaurant at 6:30 (which we discovered an hour later) and no other server waited on our table. Finallly, with no hope of ever getting our meal, we left at 7:45. Other diners also left without being served."

The flavor of the food was bland. I guess you can't expect much from Americanized Thai Food. Pad Thai by the Mueller Airport is more authentic if you are Thai or married to a Thai person. This was my first and last visit to Satay."

The experience was terrible due to folks seated adjacent to us having a business meeting and their inability to keep their voices down (If you see an IPO from a Auto or Aircraft engine maker from Austin, TX, avoid it, their management is totally clueless). I had told Satay that this was a special occasion and they still did not have the common sense to move us after this group got loud. It will be a long time before I try them again."

I had Bai Thong which is red snapper in a treatment of thai basil and lemon grass wrapped in a banana leaf. Really, really good. They have a full bar but we opted for a couple of Singhas which were served with a frosty glass. Nice."

Satay offers excellent value and the attentive staff reflects the friendliness of the owners. The menu is varied with some delicious Thai dishes that are new to us and they have a very good wine list. The interior decor is attractive and inviting and, on warm, balmy nights, we really enjoy the outside patio with it's fountain and lush foliage. We feel so fortunate to have this restaurant in our neighborhood."
