Diner Reviews
  • "It was quiet since there were no more than 4 people in the restaurant at a time. The food was OK, but they still have the best Vietnamese Spring Rolls in town."

  • "Satay serves up Thai Curry Roulette on Tuesday nights. Each Tuesday, Chef Foo prepares three different types of curry. Often it will be curries not found on the regular menu. Its an all you can eat feast! I highly recommend trying it out if you are a fan of curries. And leave room for dessertr! We had chocolate silk pie (amazing) and sticky rice with mango (very Thai!)."

  • "We have had food in Thailand and are very critical of Thai food and this place was very impressive. Very authentic from the decor to the food, we had a very enjoyable experience there. Highly recommended!"

  • "This was the first experience I have had in a restaurant that I felt fleeced by the food prices. Average food at a very high price. I felt like a fool paying the bill."

  • "We were so disappointed in our experience at Satay. I used to eat there all the time many years ago and assume the full menu is still fantastic. But the limited menu choices for Valentines day were disappointing. The service was friendly, but so slow. We got our meals first after a long wait in a full room of hungry food-less people and felt like we were in a fish bowl. On top of that, the food wasn't that great. It was expensive for the portion size we got and we were so worn out from waiting, we left before dessert (even though we paid for it)."

  • "Our first visit, and, as vegans, we were very pleased with the options available. We'll be back!"

  • "Unfortunately the kitchen was unprepared for the Valentine's Day meal. We had a reservation for 6 people and were seated at 6:00pm. By 7:45, we had only gotten appetizers, and each person's arrived separately at about 15 minute intervals. Our waitress walked out of the restaurant at 6:30 (which we discovered an hour later) and no other server waited on our table. Finallly, with no hope of ever getting our meal, we left at 7:45. Other diners also left without being served."

  • "Had dinner here with another couple recently. Attentive waitstaff and fantastic food. Can't beat it. Love the authentic atmosphere...not just someone trying to make an experience happen."

  • "Satay has been around for a long time, because they have figured out how to serve reliably good food with attentive service. There are plenty of choices, a reasonable wine list, and a good patio for the summer."

  • "While we have enjoyed many items from the menu, my friend and I always order the Tom Kha Gai. It is delightful. The Mango Martinis are pretty good too!"

  • "Thai Gumbo with a rich, dark roux and green onions"

  • "went on a Monday evening and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. There were only 2 waiters so service was pretty slow and our server had to be reminded about several items. I heard a comment to another table that they were shorthanded that evening so I don't expect this is their normal level of service, just bad luck for my party that night. The food was awesome which made up for the slow service."

  • "The food here is really outstanding - fascinating choices, all delicious. Our waitress was a little hard to find on occasion, but she was extremely knowledgable and very good at guiding our selections. Very quiet here, which we loved."

  • "lunch service was off, it was understaffed and slow."

  • "I've lived and worked in several of the countries that Satay offers cusine from. The Satay culinary version of the dishes are excellent. The The spices are perfectly matched with no spice overcoming all the others. The flavor and aroma of the food is outstanding. It may take a couple of vists to find your favorite but the wait staff is more than helpful in explaining the dishes to you."

  • "This is my favorite item on the menu. It is so flavorful and comforting. My friend and I share the Fire-pot and i am still left wanting just a little bit more. Mango Martinis are also sublime!"

  • "Always reliable. Food is well prepared and nicely presented."

  • "This is the best soup of any kind i have ever eaten. My friend and I have it every time we visit Satay. We first would get cups, then graduated to bowls, and now we get the firepot."

  • "I love the creativity used in putting the menu together. Nice quiet ambience: tasty tasty food. Not to be missed."

  • "Fried Goat Cheese - combined with grilled watermelon and Tejano ham for a truly excellent salad course. Totally Awesome. We always enjoy our meal and are treated so very nicely by the staff when we visit Luke. I love that the menu changes seasonally and I get so exceted innovative dishes each time we visit. Thank you, Luke, for a great evening."

  • "Satay is a really lovely place to dine. The waitstaff is sometimes a bit odd but the food and the atmosphere make up for it. It is somewhat pricey."

  • "We had a lovely casual family dinner at Satay. The service was very attentive. The daily special, a Thai treat with red snapper, Thai basil and seasonings, roasted red peppers, and fresh, crisp green beans was superb. The menu offerings were extensive, and servings were all very tasty, and generous in portion. We enjoyed the restaurant very much."

  • "We had a late lunch this past weekend and it was spectacular. Huge shout out and thanks to Dr. Foo and her staff!!!"

  • "We had a little glitch at Satay. I mentioned it to the Manager and he turned the glitch into a very positive experience. I give the restaurant kudos for this. We already loved the food now have another reason to return. My family and I will definitely be back and we will recommend Satay to all our friends. Thank you Satay!"

  • "OUTSTANDING! our first, but definitely not our last, time here! absolutely delicious, and the best service we've ever had! definitely recommending to all!"

  • "Very tasty food. The reason it gets a 4 rather than a 5 is because portions are small for the price."

  • "There should be a "When there is nothing else" Special Feature becuase I could not associate any of the ones above. The restaurant had good reviews so I decided to take my family. The flavor of the food was bland. I guess you can't expect much from Americanized Thai Food. Pad Thai by the Mueller Airport is more authentic if you are Thai or married to a Thai person. This was my first and last visit to Satay."
    Dined on 2/14/2013
  • "They had our reservation, good..but too many people and couldn't handle the crowd. Wait for food was 30-60 minutes. Not good. But our husband and I enjoyed ourselves despite the poor ambiance for Valentine's and long wait for food. Waiter did best he good and kept the drinks flowing and some on the house because we waited so long."
    Dined on 2/14/2013
  • "I was at first dissapointed by the fact that they would not take my coupon, but the delicious food and friendly service quickly blew me away and more than made up for the initial flaw. There was a live duet, and candles at every table. Most of all, the food was excellent. I would highly reccomend this to thai and food enthusiests everywhere. Try the siamese duck!"

  • "For great, flavorful, Thai food using healthy recipes designed by renowned chef and food scientist, Dr. Rommanee "Foo" Swasdee, you can't beat Satay."
    Dined on 1/21/2013
  • "The food is more Southeast Asia instead of Thai. The experience was terrible due to folks seated adjacent to us having a business meeting and their inability to keep their voices down (If you see an IPO from a Auto or Aircraft engine maker from Austin, TX, avoid it, their management is totally clueless). I had told Satay that this was a special occasion and they still did not have the common sense to move us after this group got loud. It will be a long time before I try them again."

  • "Birthday celebration. Food late and cold. Tea, room temperature . Complained to waitress. Another pot of hot tea was ordered but no improvement. Waitress commented that a machine had the control of temp. Cold food, cold tea, slow service....not sure we will be back."
    Dined on 12/31/2012
  • "The food could not be better. It feels like the items were especially prepared for you."
    Dined on 12/22/2012
  • "I hadn't been by Satay for a while but I'm glad we went recently. My spouse had a chicken dish that you consume in lettuce leaves which was very tasty and refreshing (low calorie, too). I had Bai Thong which is red snapper in a treatment of thai basil and lemon grass wrapped in a banana leaf. Really, really good. They have a full bar but we opted for a couple of Singhas which were served with a frosty glass. Nice."

  • "Disappointed in quality and preparation of food. Cabbage/bean sprouts on half of every plate.Entrees at room temp only. No Gin at bar."

  • "Always enjoy our dining here. Clean and friendly atmosphere."

  • "Another delicious dinner at Satay ... our favorite neighborhood Thai. I am now hooked on Dr. Foo's speciality, Bai Thong -- Red Snapper cooked in banana leaves ... spicy, but oh so good! Service, as always, was excellent."

  • "Our food was delicious and hot. The chocolate moose(sp) pie was amazing!"

  • "Satay is our favorite Thai in this area of Austin. The owners are just delightful - always greeting us warmly and often stopping by our table to welcome us back and make sure we are enjoying our meal. Satay offers excellent value and the attentive staff reflects the friendliness of the owners. The menu is varied with some delicious Thai dishes that are new to us and they have a very good wine list. The interior decor is attractive and inviting and, on warm, balmy nights, we really enjoy the outside patio with it's fountain and lush foliage. We feel so fortunate to have this restaurant in our neighborhood."

  • "Dumplings were great, but my main dish, one of the more expensive items on the menu (with supposedly sauce to die for) was tasteless. Had a better experience a couple of months earlier."
