SASSIAwesome time for our anniversary!Sassi is a go to place for great authentic Italian dining. The facility is beautiful and is usually holding a wedding event every time we go. The Caprese salad is one of the best in town and DO NOT miss the Canoli for dessert. Their staff is attentive but not overbearing and is willing to give honest recommendations. We had an emergency at the end of our meal and the staff helped expedite our bill so we could rush home. We truly appreciate all they did to help and are looking forward to our next uninterrupted meal there.

It is like being in Tuscany but its only a mile from our place in Desert Highlands. We bring friends there to expose them to the dining experience. To say the least my expectations were long surpassed. The service was amazing, the food had to be the best I had ever had (lamb out of the three course meal was the best), and the setting was perfect! Plus my girlfriend said yes :)

From the moment we stepped in to the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the staff the evening was magical. Our waiter was attentive, helpful, and charming. It gets better. It was Phoenix Restaurant week. I ordered the eggplant cakes prepared and served in its own skillet--popping with flavor---high quality ingredients. The short ribs were soft and perfectly cooked. The spices were a perfect compliment to the meat. We were so full we could not eat the cannoli dessert. The pasta dish, meatballs, gnocchi, and scallops were the dishes ordered by others. This meant that the tables were spread out and I never felt like I was sitting "on top" of someone, like I have felt elsewhere. The food was delicious. The Gnocchi was by far the winner, my date had the half chicken, which was a tad dry, but came with the drippings to make up for it. They were out of two of the appatizers.. which was a bit of a bummer. But the my meal, the short ribs, was amazing.
Not a big drinker, but the berry mojito was a great way to start off the night. Our server was fantastic, very attentive but not overwhelmingly so.

Reminds us of the great Italian food we enjoyed whenever we visited Italy while we lived in Europe for 5 years. The restaurant itself reminds us of a great Italian farmhouse---whenever we are there we think of it as a great model for a private home. The servers work extremely well together as a team---they are there when you need them, but respect your privacy when not needed. We were all delighted with the open bright eating area we were given and the food was outstanding. Service was OK given the fact that they were really very busy. All in all, it was very enjoyable. One negative comment I have is that the automatically included 20% tip seems both excessive, given the expensive price for food and drinks, and denies the opportunity to provide a comment on the quality of the service.
My suggestion would be to eliminate the mandatory tip amount (%) and assign a percentage of the meal total to the tip. We got married there 3 years ago and have gone for dinner every year since on or arround our anniversary. We try to make it in the fall too, as the menu changes throughout the seasons. It's an amazing place with a supremely romantic feel to it. I always love. Our night was not like that - the weather was a beautiful 70 degree day in Scottsdale but Pinnacle Peak did not cooperate.
We had really bad winds and could not get them to put the fireplace on in time for us to feel good while we were eating.
The service was actually GREAT and the food was FANTASTIC but hard to enjoy when you are actually freezing.

My major criticism is that when I request the outdoor terrace seating at 7:30 pm I am told that it is first come first serve which means getting there at 6 pm...which would be too early unless I am dining with my 80 year old parents.
And then even the tables inside with view are taken. The other rooms are nice but dark and lacking the atmosphere which is possible at Sassi. The staff is young and not that concerned about my interests in seating choice. I have been there many times but probably wont go back until I can book the table I desire. They were absolutely correct. Great views, beautiful atmosphere, wonderful helpful staff and of course great food. The only negative was they were out of the beer that night I really wanted (Anchor Porter). I would have compted me another beer for not having my first choice, but I guess that's just me. Especially, when there is such a small selection of beers on the menu. Small beer list...you'd better at least make sure you have it on hand.
