food was good but not good enough for high price. Was very expensive, which i wouldn't mind if the food were amazing. My fish was very flavorful and well prepared, but my husband's "perfect salmon" was anything but. over cooked and bland. His peppercorn salad was excellent, but my strawberry & spinach salad was just so-so and again, bland. His cheesecake was delicious. My orange shortbread was not good. Frankly, i think i could have done better. waiter was very polite & attentive but he wasn't very familiar with the menu & didn't even mention the lobster special that i overheard being offered to another table. Overall, i would say it is not worth the price &i would not recommend even though it was good. I just expected better.

We just happened upon this restaurant. It's in a lovely spot on the river but does not have a view or outside dining that I was aware of. The food, to my taste, as mediocre. My husband had a filet that was done to his liking with a nice burgundy sauce. My chicken dish, however, was completely unappetizing with large peaches that were not even cooked. The chicken was tough. We did have coffee and expresso (which was delivered cold, TWICE). The best part of the meal was dessert, cheesecake and a chocolate cake that was excellent. Our waiter was obviously inexperienced, did not even serve cream with our coffee. They do have an extensive ( and expensive ) wine list for those who want to partake. I'd give it a B-.

The restaurant has a great wait staff and kitchen. A wide selection of waters, cocktails and wine are available. A full salad can easily be shared by two, rather than ordering two half salads. The iceberg with blue cheese, tomato, and bacon with egg had a fine composition. The maple teriyaki halibut was excellent, but watch out for the Fresno pepper slices. The ribeye steak with potatoes and spinach, were cooked to order and good. For dessert, coffee and piña colada sorbet topped off a wonderful evening!

While the food and service were both great, I think the menu selections are a bit pricy. For the menu prices I expect to dine off of fine china and drink out of crystal glasses. I also expect the silverware to be not looked worn.

Sargasso is a very nice restaurant with excellent food and a great wine list. However, one glaring flaw is the chairs. They are very old, dirty, and the cushions are extremely soft. So much so that you sink into them, and suddenly your table is chest height and I felt I needed a high chair or booster seat. I will go there again but this time ask for a table along the windows and sit on the bench seat side, in front of the windows. Maybe they will update the chairs into the 21st century.

  • Too cold and not so cold

Room where we were first seated was too cold. Cold air from a/c blowing directly on us! Waiter told me they would try to make it a "couple degrees warmer". He said they keep the room colder because they store wine in the room! Unbelievable! I told him the patron's are the people consuming the wine and the room temperature was too cold to enjoy our dinner. I ordered a bottle of white wine and the waiter said he would have to chill it. After "chilling", it was not chilled sufficiently. He said he would chill it more. Meanwhile, I checked out the temperature in an adjacent room which was much warmer and we moved to that room. Later, he brought the wine and was chilled adequately. The food was good and the waiter was accommodating.

Sadly, I feel like our dinner on Tuesday was over priced and that the server did not clearly state that the special was nearly $100 per person. For the price the meal was not worth it at all. Sad, as I used to enjoy Sargasso's.

You won't be disappointed. I have always had a great meal here. The iceburg salad is fantastic. For entre, I had the ribeye steak which was very flavorful and moist. My girlfriend got the pear roasted chicken, which was simply excellent. And the cheesecake is excellent. Only issues: their espresso is more like an Americano, and you really need to block off 2-3 hours for a meal. They are simply in no rush.

Possibly the best thing about Morgantown, West Virginia. We visited around 9pm on a Friday evening, stopping for the night to split up a trip to Michigan. Excellent food and good service by a server who had only been on the job for three weeks. He was still building up his confidence but was attentive and conscientious. The food was excellent, and the wine selection interesting. We did not find any other restaurant in Morgantown that compared.

This was our first experience at Sargasso in Morgantown, and hopefully not our last. The service was wonderful...attentive without being overbearing. I liked the new concept they're trying - giving out the menu for each course after finishing the course before. The waiter we had was enthusiastic, knew the menu & specials & was very helpful with our decision-making. The wine list was great, but I ended up with a signature cocktail that I loved. The food was fantastic! Unique but recognizable...and so flavorful. The reason for the 4 stars is that my entrée was not as hot as I would have liked but still very warm. The husband entrée' was piping hot though! Cannot wait to try this place again! Do yourself a favor~check it out!

The fanciest restaurant I have been to in Morgantown. It doesn't look much from the outside, but is gorgeous on the inside. Amazing romantic ambiance with the largest drink list I've ever seen. Options for everyone. The food was delicious. The portions are small, but still filling. A pricier meal than most places in Morgantown, but it was great for a romantic celebration. Great for a party that loves to drink wine as the selection was extremely large. The calamari was outstanding and different than any other calamari I've ever had.

A special occasion; the graduation from WVU of my younger son, brought us to Sargasso from N.J. The service from our waiter was exceptional, the wine selection was extensive and varied, the food was very good, however expensive. Sargasso is comparable to a fine N.Y.C. restaurant. As I wrote, it is expensive but after all, this was a special event. How many time does a son graduate from college, especially with honors?

May contains two special days for my wife & me: our wedding anniversary & Mother's Day, my wife's first Mother's Day. So I had to do something really special. Sargasso was the perfect place. The food, the service & the experience was top notch. One key factor is no one tried to upsell us on wine. We asked for a recommendation for a Malbec. It was delicious, and not the most expensive. Looking forward to our next dinner at Sargasso.

I have waited to digest my review of Sargasso's. Let me start with the positives by saying the ambience is good with low lighting, the view is a river or parking lot. Our service was wonderful and noise level low. All in all a romantic spot. My husband and I ordered the suggested appetizer and entrees. Mine swordfish which was fine and my husband ordered the Kobe beef. His was paper thin and fatty around the edge. It was delicious and melted in your mouth!!! The OUCH came to play when we got our bill. The Kobe beef entree was $141.00!!! This is fine and dandy if we had been told when our server was describing the special that it is billed by the ounce and there could not have been more than 2. Lesson learned ask questions!!!

I was disappointed in the overall quality of the ambiance, service and food preparation and in some cased the items that were served did not seam to fit the description on the menu. The service was perfunctory and it was confusing as they switched waiters on us mid-course. Bottom line, for the price, the quality, ambiance and service was very much below par and I would not recommend this restaurant to any one on the basis of this experience.

We made online reservations for Sargasso in Morgantown, WV. We went on Valentine's Day for lunch. I felt the menu for lunch was very nice. I am a picky eater, and I was able to find at least 3 items I would eat. We were a little disappointed in the fact that there was not a children's menu (our daughter is 7 and joined us for lunch) BUT the waiter suggested a specialty pizza (cheese) and our daughter was excited to get a special item. The food was DELICIOUS. Everyone tried everything and we all greatly enjoyed our food and dessert. Like the food, the service was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive to us even though he had a huge party that he was serving as well. We were so impressed with him we left a 25% tip!

I have eaten at Sargasso's a number of times and have enjoyed it. This time, however, the food was very average. The Sargasso salad offered a small amount celery slices with a few walnuts and feta. Very average taste. The scallops entree consisted of three scallops, which were tasty, with a large mound of lentils and sautéed greens. Again, the food was not particularly tasty--and would have expected more than three scallops. As I treated friends to a nice dinner out, I was a bit disappointed overall.

Sargasso is a lovely restaurant located in Morgantown, WV. It is probably the best restaurant for foodies in this area. My husband and I visited on New Years Eve. The chef had Price-fixe menu for the holiday. Each of four courses was accompanied by a champagne tasting (yummy). There were numerous selections available for each course. I choose their calamari; and, was not disappointed. My second course was lobster bisque. It was delicious and served at the perfect temperature. I selected Scallops as my entree....cooked perfectly with a nice sear. And ended with the chefs cheesecake with rhubarb sauce. The service was spot on and the meal was nicely paced....we were not rushed but never waited for the next course.

While Sargasso offers a short, but diverse and tasty menu, a visit between Christmas and New Year seemed to catch the kitchen overstretched. Specials of the day, soups & entrees, were tepid (temperature) on delivery and the overall experience lacked the attention to detail and sparkle that we have come to expect. Lamb and salmon were delicious. Wine list is good. Overall, not at all bad, but not superlative.
