Great place to watch sunset6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNothing like sunset on MauiI haven't been to Sarento's on the Beach for a long time and my visit reminded me of what I've been missing all this time. We were able to get a table outside on the lanai just off the beach. Quieter than the main dining room and the sunset view was very nice, reminding us of just why people come to Maui.
The wait staff were attentive without being obtrusive and the food was excellent. Extensive wine list.

It was my birthday and I had a craving for seafood. I had the lobster, my sister had the snapper and my mom had the tiger prawns. All of these things were soooo delicious. The service was a little odd because one waiter would take your drink order and then a couple other ones would try to take it again a few minutes later, so we would say "no someone is already bringing us one" but then our drink never came... We still had an awesome time, I just thought it was strange that our table had a hostess, and 3 different waiters. Overall best birthday dinner though! Over the years we've been to most of the best restaurants in Wailea, and I can honestly say for us there is no better dining experience. The food, view, and service level is first class! We reserved a 6:30 pm front table with a perfect view of the waves breaking on shore and enjoyed every minute of the beautiful Maui sunset. First class relaxed dining experience! My tip; spend the $20 with the Sarento's photographer and have your picture taken with your loved one(s) and the Maui sunset as your backdrop! I ordered the smoked pork chop which was over done and dry. The potato au gratin was under done and not edible. My dining partners had clams linguini which was loaded with clams, crab cakes, seafood and sausage stew which were all lauded as great. For desert we had a very rich and lovely chocolate gelato. The wine was reasonably priced and very good. At times we had as many as three waiters attending to our needs, which sounds confusing but it really was not. Instead, our every whim seemed to be instantly attended, which was really kind of neat. Anyway, the food was very good, and a killer view of the bay and distant islands completed the experience. We arrived right before sunset and the view was amazing. The coconut pineapple cocktail was great and we enjoyed the bread too. Service was good. Our primary server was professional, informed and attentive. However, some members of the waitstaff seemed especially clumsy and while we were there, we saw two drink trays get dropped on the floor and heard someone drop another one somewhere in the restaurant so that brought the romantic ambiance down a bit. Our food was tasty (my husband thought his Ahi was a bit overcooked though), the presentation was nice and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Food was fantastic. We had the Gazpacho - one of the best I've ever had - the Penne Bolognaise, with hints of Cinnamon, and the Spaghetti & Meatballs. Simply awesome. And the Tiramisu dessert was hands down the best - and that's the only dessert I order when dining Italian. Chef knocked it out of the park.
Our table was 20 feet from the beach. Fantastic views. Would like to go again for sunset dinner.
