Sardi'sALWAYS Good before going toALWAYS Good before going to the theater. Classic but definitely not old fashioned
!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a Theater SpotSardi's has a special place in the Theater District. It's walls are adorned with caricatures of the Theaters' greatest stars over a very long period of time. This adds to the overall experience and combined with very good food, makes it a worthwhile stop before or after the Theater. When you look at reviews of other area restaurants, Sardi's has remained consistent while others has been quite erratic. We tried the prix fixe menu and were happy with the food and very professional service. This is definitely a good choice if you are around West 44th St and near the Shubert, Majestic, of Broadhurst Theaters (among others in the area).6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA must do for Broadway goers!Everyone needs to go to Sardi's at least once to see all the caricatures!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA piece of quietAfter all the hussle and bussle of Broadway it was a pleasure to walk into Sardi's and be able to escape the mobs. Through the years this has always been a respite before or after a show. Please remain so.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there even thoughFirst time there even though we go to dinner in New York frequently. Will go back again. Everything was excellent, especially the food and service.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMout of townera wonderful place to dine before the theqtre. Great history .. Teens loved it, /delish lunch and fun waiter. Fun to look at the pictures! All in all a great success!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, but....Everyone enjoyed themselves. No complaints. But nothing outstanding. Prices were a bit high but not outrageous. Wine list was poor. But, it was right across from out theatre. Pictures on the wall were fun. But it was just a place to eat for the food. Sorry to say that6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMStill great. Yes, a bit pricey;Still great. Yes, a bit pricey; but no so for the area. Was surprised that I was able to get a pre-theatre reservation just two days in advance. The food is still good, the servers were friendly and attentive, and you can't beat the atmosphere before attending a show.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMpre-pippin matinee lunchAll i can say is Sardi's doesn't fail to deliver high quality old world service with class and good taste. To coin another reviewer "This is a staff that knows how to serve food to humans " The food is excellent and prepared the way it should be clean and vibrant tastes. The restaurant has years of experience in moving patrons in and out efficiently for the theater without making you feel in the least bit rushed. Highly recommend this restaurant.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great placeA legend that deserves the title. Great food and service6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat location if you areGreat location if you are seeing a Broadway show. Even saw actors from the show we were seeing eating at the restaurant before the show.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dining experience ever!Sardi's staff went above and beyond to make us feel special and make sure we were well taken care of. We made reservations for Sunday for brunch and were very happy with our selections from the menu (French toast! Delicious!) The atmosphere is unique and we are looking forward to coming back in the future!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBe a Star!!I've reviewed Sardi's before and my opinion that it's tops still stands. Summing it up, Sardi's treats everyone like a star!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMRich piece of New York HistoryWe saved our experience at Sardi's for our last night in NYC. It was fabulous! The food was incredible and the service, impeccable. The staff was so pleasant and accommodating. They even gave us a sample of dessert to try.
Even though it is pricey, it is apart of NY's culture. I would highly recommend giving Sardi's a try.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatFantastic spot for a pre- show dinner. The pictures all around the restaurant assures that each guest will always have something to look at. Sat in a table next to Milly Shapiro (Matilda on Broadway!), making for a very entertaining night.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall the food was prettyOverall the food was pretty good. Filet was excellent once it was cooked to proper temperature. The chicken was really dry...Dessert was fantastic! Service was excellent. We went at 5:00 due to 8:00 show and we were able to "hang-out" and enjoy dinner until time to leave for the show. They waitress did not rush us at all to try and turn table faster.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly SurprisedI had this impression of Sardi's as a tourist trap having lived in NY for many years. We gave it a try before a show and it was really very good. The servers could not have been nicer and the food was well worth the price given the old school atmosphere which is really what it is all about.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM12 yr. old's Birthday SurpriseMy honorary granddaughter had a very nice time at Sardi's. It was fun watching her trying to be as grown up as possible. She mentioned this was the first restaurant she ate at that didn't have music. I guess she's used to the chain restaurants in NJ that have non-stop entertainment. This is the perfect restaurant for a Special Occasion. It is not for the faint of wallet or for those that want the staff to participate in a Happy Birthday ritual. (Leave that for the chains). Our server very discreetly brought out a slice of cake with the candle I had given her at the conclusion of dinner...and I very quietly sang "Happy Birthday to You". She loved it.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFears allayedWe had heard it had become a tourist trap. I am a frequent visitor to NY and had not been to Sardi's in about 30 years. It was great then and now. I found the food top shelf and was not treated any differently than at most other well-known NY restaurants. I'd recommend it for any special occasion. It is a bit pricey, but very convenient if, like myself, you stay in midtown. We stay in the Marriott Marquis on each trip to NY and must use a baby sitter each time we spend an evening out. Sardi's is right there and saved us at least $50 on sitter fees because we didn't have any travel time to and from the restaurant, the theatre, or the after-dinner dessert. I would recommend it highly.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's and the TheaterWe live out of the city and come in to the theater as often as possible. Our choice of restaurants is always Sardi's. Great food, service and location.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA TreasureI choose Sardi's because it is one of the most famous restaurants known for us that reside outside New York. The place is a treasure with the 100's of characters lining the walls. This was one of my lower priced fine dining meals in New York (about $50 per person, including tip without bar service) and the food was better than a place I ate at two night later for more than double the price. The waited worked there a long time and made our evening enjoyable. I would go back to Sardi's again.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique decor with a noteworthyUnique decor with a noteworthy assortment of appetizers, entrees, salads and desserts. Great service from an attentive staff made a memorable after theater visit for a recent trip to New York.
I recommend Sardi's highly.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant and upliftingAs always, our evening at Sardis was delightful. The professional staff made us feel 'star-quality' special. The drinks were excellent, the wine superb and the food was perfect. From steak to pasta, every dish was spectacular! Like a fine Chanel suit, Sardis never goes out of style!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a gemGreat location, food and service. Enjoyed it immensely.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBusy place!I had come to Sardi's years ago, and last time it was lively, but a fine dining experience. The waiter was 'at your service' and seemed to be ours alone whenever we needed anything. It had a more reverent feel. We saw Carol Channing and another NY actor seated and eating dinner there, so we felt like we'd discovered a gem.
This time, we were led upstairs (didn't know there was an upstairs), and it was very busy and loud. The service was just ok - lots of waiters milling around, but we waited 15 minutes to give our dessert order after he dropped off the menu. That's not "long" to wait, but compared to my last experience, it was surprising. The food I ordered was excellent, but I didn't feel special anymore, just one of the masses.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Institution! If you order right, you can have a very nice meal here and enjoy the wonderful surroundings and service of this venerable Broadway institution. First couple of times I ate here, it was with relatives from out of town and I played it safe with my food choices...and was very disappointed. I decided to try it one more time and strayed from the tried and true and have discovered that some of the meals are delicious and it is perfect if seeing a show in the mid-40s. Last visit I enjoyed a Seafood Cobb with a citrus dressing that was fantastic! Give it a try and be adventurous.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMdiscover sardi's again..what a wonderful surprise..my last 2 visits to sardi's had been private buffets upstairs, which were mediocre. my expectations for dinner for 2 before the theatre were not high...boy was I wrong! the historic, NY theatre main dining room was so pleasant, the waiter was efficient and friendly and the food was surprisingly good. gravlax plate to start, crab cakes to follow..and a walk across the stree to our 7:00 curtain...can't wait to return.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood TimeMy Wife and I went to Sardi's and had a good time. Food was good, a little expensive but not exorbitant. Nice ambience. Relatively fast service and our waitress was very nice and personable.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's - A traditionAfter taking my mother to Sardi's a few years back, I knew what kind of environment I was going to find - something a little upbeat as far as the amount of people and great food! So, needless to say it was the first and only place I thought of for our anniversary dinner - and boy neither one of us was disappointed. A place we'd be willing to go to again for a fine meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great place!Sardi's had wonderful food. The Prix Fixe menu was great with a large selection at a decent price. Dr. Ruth was even seated next to me.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place Before TheatreSardis is a great go to restaurant for theatre. A bit pricey, but great food and drink..it's fun to see all the stars caricatures on the walls5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-theatre splurge!I always enjoy lunch at Sardi's before a theatre matinee. Celebrity siting does not disappoint, either! Kathy Lee Gifford & Hoda Kopfe were at a nearby table and the room buzzed.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional Times Square favoriteFood was good, but nothing special. Our waiter didn't speak English very well, so when we asked for the specials, he just pointed to a printed out listing on the menu.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOne thing I did note was whenOne thing I did note was when I told my waiter that I had forgotten to mention Open Table when I came in, he just said, Oh it doesn't matter.". I thought that was strange.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite Pre-Show dinner! Our favorite Pre-Show dinner! It never disappoints and the staff is remarkable.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Old Sardi'sThis is a typical NY restaurant with the addition of all of the personality caricatures that make the decor very interesting. Food is always excellent, service outstanding and they can get you out in time for your Broadway show no matter what else happens. A New york institution!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's is always fun, theSardi's is always fun, the food is good and you might spot a celebrity or two4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Choice before your ShowAttentive, friendly service, no problem making
The show. Good food, nice atmosphere !4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter theater perfectionGreat meal for after theater. Joined by 2 good friends and accomodations were easily adjusted. Center of theater district, making location that much better. Yes, it is an old standby, but there are reasons good places stand the test of times. Perfect for a late dinner!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMReturned again after briadwayReturned again after briadway play and had a fabulous meal. Great service.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our third time visitingThis was our third time visiting this restaurant. The service and food were excellent every time.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm glad to see this old NYI'm glad to see this old NY restaurant still thriving and will return because of it's unique vibe. It's time for a paint job but I appreciate so much the very professional service the "famous menu selections" which I think they have wisely kept on the menu and a decent bubbly for $8!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's definitely held upSardi's definitely held up to its tradition. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for making our supper a memorable one!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's -- 40 Years of Great MealsI have been going to Sardi's for over 40 years and can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. When you walk in the door, you feel an immediate connection to the Broadway community, to whom Sardi's has been a friend and partner for almost a century.
Their onion soup is one of the best first courses in Manhattan. I have two favorite entrees, curried chicken and cannelloni au gratin. I've also like Sardi's pasta with chicken, which is good old fashioned (Italian) comfort food.
Sardi's is a great place to take out-of-town guests who enjoy theater. If they have never been there, it will be a highlight of their trip. Whomever you dine with, Patrick, grandson of founder, Vincent Sardi, and the staff will ensure a fine dining experience.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSardi's is a New York institution,Sardi's is a New York institution, worth checking out for a throwback to three-martini lunches of the Mad Men era. A grand dining room with chartictures on the walls is the ambiance. The service is friendly, and the fact is the food is good and very reasonably priced, especially for NY.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food straight up presentationGood food straight up presentation waiters a little surely. If that doesn't bother you you will enjoy lunch.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAn old favorite for crab cakes,An old favorite for crab cakes, cannoli and onion soup.
The chick pea soup should never have left the kitchen.
Manager dialing cell phone when we arrived. Never looked up.
Because it was 9:30 on a Tuesday night the noise level was great.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRare for expectations to beRare for expectations to be exceeded.
