Diner Reviews
  • "It was a perfect place to go before a show, and my daughter got to experience a wonderful New York restaurant!"
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "I am sure that this was a great restaurant in the past, however, I cannot recommend it now. Went for a pre- theatre meal with my husband and while my shrimp sardi was ok his spaghetti with chicken scalloppini was abysmal. The spaghetti was so so but the chicken tasted rubbery as if was roasted the day before and then sliced and re- fried as needed. My husband left most of the chicken on his plate, thankfully, as an hour later and a third of the way into the show he got stomach problems, only remedied by a large brandy as soon as he could get one. The service was good, a great shame about the food."

  • "I was able to book (and even to change the booking) on this website with ease. I mentioned I wanted a nice table because it was a birthday of a relative of advanced years. They went above and beyond. The service was outstanding. One person got the steak tartare, another the pork chops, I got the special canellonis which were very satisfying and tasty (cheesy). There's something about the food that is satisfying like home cooked food yet epicurean enough for a night out. The seating is always comfortable whether at the banquettes or tables. The cocktails are always generous. You can never go wrong with Sardi's."

  • "We took our granddaughter to Sardi's before a play. When the waiters found out that it was her birthday, they made a lovely fuss over her. They couldn't have been nicer. They made her day very special."

  • "Nice to be a part of one of new Yorkshire landmarks"

  • "We were late for our reservation and it was not a problem. The staff was friendly and the food was great. And the waiter brought over a piece of cake with a candle to celebrate our anniversary. I highly recommend"

  • "We went with another couple who had never been to Sardi's before. I had not eaten there for a long time and it was just as I had remembered it. The portraits are a great conversation piece and the room is full of energy. There were large parties, couples, families, the place is appropriate for everybody. The appetizer was outstanding and although the wine list is not that extensive, our wine was very good. We were right next door to our theater as well as our parking garage so you could not beat the convenience of the location. Our guests were very impressed and said they would definitely go back again. We intend to dine there again and highly recommend Sardi's as a theater district classic."

  • "After hearing so much hype about Sardis we could not wait for our reservation. We had the worst service imaginable, could not find our waiter or any other waiter to stop at our table, Never did get my Frenc Onion soup and the 2 items I did order were just OK Tables are very close together so no real ambiance but I was able to hear everyone else's conversations. Tried to order a drink and get another piece of bread, but of course that never happened either. Oh yes the waiter did finally show up to present us with the bill for $100 for the 4 appetizers. I will not ever go back - famous or not. And because we were not famous we were totally ignored."

  • "Being a historical landmark and in the center of the theatre district, we were concerned about it having become just another "tourist trap". However, the food was very good, the service was impeccable, and they have the timing down to a science. Overall, it was a surprisingly good experience."

  • "We invited friends who love theater, but had never dined at Sardi's. They were delighted. Excellent meal choices, well served by friendly staff. The place to see and be seen."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "We never went to Sardi's for the food, though some dishes are very good. We go for the cocktails and Old Broadway ambiance, and both are strong as ever. We enjoy comfortable seating, a noise level that doesn't hinder conversation, people watching (tourists and Broadway stalwarts), and those wonderful caricatures lining the walls ("is that Carol Burnett from the '50s?"). The chopped salad at lunch is new and not heavy. Fish is always a good choice. Pastas are better than any of the other tourist-centered places in the area. Duck into the bar just off the entrance for a quick martini before or after your show (or even during - I've done it). Welcome to Broadway."

  • "This restaurant in the theater district was a unique experience before Kinky Boots. From the decades of caricatures on the walls to the steak tartare our experience was unique. A piece of New York that is not to be missed."

  • "This is one of New York's best restaurants -- yes, there are tourists but the service and food are always consistently good."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "Location is perfect for pre or post theater dinner. Food was good, ambiance theatrical, service good. Would definitely recommend eating at Sardi's."
    Dined on 4/1/2014
  • "Sardi's had such high expectations for me. But it was really really disappointing. The atmosphere was the only good part. The food was only half way decent, and the service was the worst I had in New York. Always had to flag down someone to notice us."

  • "I had the salmon with a teriaki glaze and my husband had chicken Marsala. We had the Sardis special appetizer which is basically one of everything. The food was good. Desert was a new York cheesecake. Yum. The service: Mike, a professional who has no doubt been there for years was fantastic. We were crammed up on other diners, thank God they were nice people. This used to be the place to see and be seen. Doesn't seem like it now. Only recognized a few of the drawings of the "famous", assuming the the better drawings are someplace else, maybe another room has more of the "old school charm" of yesteryear."

  • "We only had dessert after the Broadway show (~10:45pm) and got good service and had the warm chocolate lava cake. Yum! Service was good. The was some noise to the place but not too bad. Would definitely stop in again."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Food was average. Service was reasonably good. It's worth going once because of the history and decor but once is enough. Unlike most of do the restaurants we tried this time in New York we felt like we were being rushed through dinner. That said our server was helpful and pleasant."

  • "While an iconic place the food the last two visits has not been memorable. Very sad, but with so many choices in the city it doesnt really matter I guess."
    Dined on 10/8/2013
  • "Servers suggested food choices, when our server went on break everyone made sure we were taken care of in his absence. They are definitely a team of servers. Everyone was great. I thought that it would look a little different on the inside. It was cute. Now I can say that I have been there. It was a good experience."

  • "Lovely lunch with a very attentive staff. Realizing it's a landmark, it needs a major overhaul! At least bring some photos of current day Hollywood to the walls! Food very simple...very well done...and ridiculously over-priced for what is offered! A must-do once! That's it!"

  • "Right in the heart of the theater district, Sardi's is a well known establishment, and fun to see the caricatures on the walls. Food was delicious, but the dish that stood out was the salmon, excellent. We also had a yummy dessert , the chocolate cake with melted center & ice cream. They have a nice attendant in the ladies restroom. Service was excellent."

  • "Sardi's is where to go;either [re- or posr-theater. The waitstaff works in teams to serve one cordially and efficiently. The food is excellent once again, and one should ask for the prix fixe menu at lunch. A rave from me."

  • "Just go because it's tradition!!! The food was ok, the service great! Although we were the last reservation we didn't feel any pressure."

  • "3 for lunch after crowds left. Waiters interesting and helpful. Had fixed price lunches, which were marvelous. So much food, had to take some with me. Quality of the steak was superb. Would go there again whenever in NYC. Both my husband and friend agree!! Enjoyed the paintings of all the theatrical celebrities, and others."

  • "The food was excellent. We chose Sardi's for it's diverse menu. The service was excellent too. Will be visiting again for our next play."

  • "Our party of four enjoyed the evening from food to service. Everyone was pleasant and we didn't have to wait too long for the dinner. It was my 2nd time at Sardi's and I would go back."

  • "I always feel welcome at Sardi's. Staff is very sensitive to your needs especially your need to get out and to a play. Wonderful for kids."

  • "Been here in the past (heart of Broadway) and it now proves to be at best average. Location is prime if your doing Broadway"

  • "The service was good and the food was great. The noise level was quiet as it was not too busy but it also had great ambience."

  • "Went to Sardi's before a show and it was absolutely incredible. The prices were completely reasonable and the service was tremendous. It is a "tourist" location - but it is definitely worth the visit. I would go again....and again....and again!"

  • "Great for a quick bite or lengthy dinner. Good cocktails, friendly staff."

  • "We had a large group. Everyone enjoyed their food and without feeling rushed we made it to theatre without angst."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "It was very comfortable for me and my wife who were out on the town. Dinner before the theater as it was. The waiter asked about whether we were going to a play so he would know how much time we had to eat. He was very nice and expalined our menu in detail when asked. The wine was excellent and the food was good but my steak was a little blah. I had tasty steak here before so this was a surpirse. My wife has the crab cakes which she said were terrific. But all in all we will return."

  • "We made reservations for 2 on a Friday night before a show. My niece showed up for a drink (and then an appetizer) and they accommodated us nicely. The food was very good. I had glazed salmon and my husband had a steak. Good quality and flavor, but not terribly memorable. The prefixe menu came with dessert and that was the highlight of the meal - very good crème brulee and the chocolate mousse with fresh raspberry sauce went over well with my husband and niece. I can now check off Sardi's off my list of famous restaurants. We may return, especially since the service and location were good enough to get us out in time for the show."

  • "A Broadway must! Very high ratings for the food -- 5 * for many other cities. In the heart of the theater district, a natural for pre/post-theater meal. We dined before our show. wonderful room with the countless caricatures of stars adorning the walls. Well worth the time & effort to be a small part of the Broadway legend. Professional & highly competent staff. Impeccably fresh seafood. Modest (&largely modestly priced) wine list. All in all a wonderful way to introduce our nine-year-old to his second Broadway musical (Matilda, directly across the street)!"

  • "Really overpriced flavorless food. So many better options in NY. Don't let the big name drawl you in. Go somewhere else."
