Sardine FactoryMother's Day Brunch.We love the Sardine Factory and frequent occasionally. We made reservations for Mother's Day Brunch at 1:45. We arrived 5 minutes late(I called to say we would be). We didn't get seated until 2:55pm. I had the Filet Mignon Benedict. Both of my eggs were hard and had very little bernaise sauce. Our waiter was Richard. He was very attentive. The 4 of us had the sole, the halibut special and the Thai scallops. The flavor of the scallop juice was divine, subtle, delicious. And the scallops were BIG, perfectly done. My friend raved about the halibut. My husband loved the sole. The Sardine Factory was an excellent choice. It is comfortable and at the same time world class. The food was wonderful and the serving staff have that knack for knowing when to approach the table. They always seemed to be there just when we needed them but did not seem at all intrusive to our conversation. The ambiance is very special out in the conservatory. It was perfect in every way! Yes they have sardines on the hors d'oeuvre menu and they are excellent! The abalone bisque soup was excellent. We shared our entrées which were lobster stuffed ravioli and Alaskan halibut, both were excellent. It is one the finest dining in Monterey/Pacific Grove. Johnny, the wine steward, has been serving us for years. The abalone soup is excellent, a "must have" item. The preparation of the escargot is unique, Oysters Rockefeller fantastic. The steaks are always prepared perfectly. If you are seeking a steakhouse, the Sardine Factory serves quality beef, making it the absolute best steakhouse in Monterey. Someimes we dine here twice during our stay. The bar is always fun, good piano music. The bar menu is great and the restaurant does allow you to order off the full menu in the bar as well. But the lamb was awful: undercooked, impossible to cut, chewy, etc.
It is beautiful in their atrium. The rooms are gorgeous, the service is excellent, and the food is amazing. This last time though I was a little upset because whoever their launder is needs to be fired. Me and my date had lint all over us from their napkins. I complained about it after dinner and was told it was the launder and that other people had complained as well. If that is true I would think they would have made the effort to remove the lint or utilize other napkins to appease their guests. I will go again but I was a little upset considering I brought my date their for the first time and we had to use a lint roller after dinner. The main dining room was beautiful and unique. The staff was absolutley superb in their attention to detail and helpfullness with the menu. They truly made the evening. The Seared Salmon and Seared Scallops were perfectly done and complemented nicely by their House Chardonnay and House Pinot Noir.
