Diner Reviews
  • "We love Sarabeth's for dinner. It is quiet and has a great menu and great servers. The prixe fixe is a great value. I had a very delicious tomato soup and the steak frite. We also had the kale caesar and tuna tartare and both were very good. There is a nice selection of wines by the glass (and a slightly larger version, which was perfect!). And, no surprise that the desserts are great - we had the rasberry bread pudding, which was excellent. It's one of the best kept secrets on the upper west side!"

  • "such a quaint, lovely spot with absolutely DELICIOUS food! I went by myself for breakfast and the staff was amazingly friendly - I can't wait to go back! p.s. the lemon ricotta pancakes were perfect!"

  • "The service was slow and lacked the attention we expected-- 15 minutes after I ordered I found out that the entree I ordered was not available. Ok I ordered something else. Once we received or entrees, no one checked up on us. My guest actually had to get up and walk to the bar to ask for drinks. The food was very good, and the noise level good, which we really appreciated since my guest and I really wanted to converse. It was just a shame that the service was lax."

  • "Went to SaraBeth's on a recommendation. Although my scone and jam were good, my expensive breakfast was not good. I have had a better hash in the hospital cafeteria. $50 for two is too expensive for mediocre food. When I asked to try some berry jam they brought aprox 1 Tablespoon in a little dish over. Funny but stingy. Would not go there again."

  • "I come here a lot for client meetings since my local Popover Cafe closed and while Sarabeth's doesn't serve popovers, the food is great and the restaurant offers nice opportunities to sit and talk for extended time."

  • "Had a great celebration dinner last night. Reservation was early (5:30) which meant there was no noise....We could talk and enjoy every mouthful without shouting at each other... Service was super great. We are so lucky to have this restaurant on the Upper West Side but Sarabeth is in several locations around the city. I have eaten at all of them and have never been disappointed. Everything on the menu is great!"

  • "You never have a bad meal at Sara Beth's. The creamy tomatoe soup was so delicious! I took my parents here for lunch and we had such a wonderful time. The lobster roll and coleslaw were excellent as well."

  • "SaraBeth's has excellent, wholesome, fresh well prepared food. They also have a good kid's menu. Service is very pleasant, friendly, and watchful."

  • "We went on a Friday morning, and it was packed and loud. I ordered a farmer's omelette, and it was pretty good - but not substantially better than what I would have gotten in a diner. The pumpkin muffin that accompanied it was on the dry side. My juice - the "four flowers" - was the only stand-out element of the meal. I liked the decor, but between the noise level, average food, and long wait for a table, I'm not sure why the place is so popular."

  • "The girlfriend and I started our valentine's night here. They had us seated exactly at our reservation time (8:00PM). I love the ambience in this UWS location, and even though it was packed on Feb 14, our little booth still felt private. Wait staff was amicable and expedient. The food was by far the best part, and if you don't get the lobster Mac & Cheese, then you and I have a problem. Overall one of the best dining experiences I've had in NY."

  • "This restaurant is the real deal. Fabulous food and service. I highly recommend it."

  • "My life-girlfriend and I had a delightful Valentine's Day dinner; excellent service; good wine list and cocktails; memorable chicken breast and steak frites, the latter with good gravy; nice beet salad shared; grand chocolate confection dessert. Love the quiet, wood-paneled ambience. Good upper west side location near 79th Street IRT stop, Museum of Natural History."

  • "Popular UWS cafe with an eclectic take on traditional fare. Amazing tomato soup and grilled cheese on pretzel bread! Will be back again and again!"

  • "The food was not as good as usual . The chicken pot pie didn't have much chicken and the sauce was watery and tasted like it was canned. however the service was fine and the place is always nice to sit and talk in."

  • "Of all the Upper West Side restaurants to end up in, this wouldn't be one of my choices. The server raved about several of the dishes, for example the brussels sprouts. So I order the grilled pork chop with wild mushrooms and brussels sprouts and gnocchi. Pork chop was tough and only warm; mushrooms were cold and looked more like button than wild. Brussels sprouts were limp and not at all roasted-tasting. Gnocchi was tasty but oddly seemed to have been fried. The dessert was completely disappointing: a "flite" of ice cream sandwiches made from cookies and gelato. Pistachio gelato was like ice milk, but the vanilla gelato was very nice. Maybe they do better with brunch and breakfast, but based on our experience, can't recommend for dinner."

  • "I love this restaurant and always go there when I am in NYC. The Lemon-Ricotta pancakes are "to die" for and so are the Pumpkin pancakes."

  • "I was celebrating a birthday and realized I hadn't been to Sarabeth's for quite a while. What a wonderful reunion! The ambiance and high food changed haven't changed and the dinner crowd is Soooo much calmer than the long lines often seen at brunch. The shrimp and chorizo quesadilla and mussel appetizers were phenomenal. And my guests really enjoyed the steak frites, lobster Mac 'n Cheese and chicken salad. I look forward to returning on a regular basis."

  • "This is a great place for food! The guacamole appetizer with very large homemade chips was great. The chicken pot pie is chock full of tender white meat chicken with a delicious crust. Could only eat half! Desserts are amazing. We had the raspberry bread pudding and the pot de creme. Wish I lived next door! They also make a great cappuccino."

  • "My family had a post holiday dinner, and overall we were quite pleased. We started with the guacamole, tuna tartar and crab cakes. All three tasted great, although there was only one small delicious crab cake per order. For entrees we tried the roasted chicken, flat iron steak and lobster roll. Again, everything was enjoyable and well prepared. We shared a couple of bottles of white wine, and the service was attentive but not overbearing. I would definitely go back."

  • "First time dining at Sarabeth's West and it was Christmas Eve. At 8:30pm I would have thought the restaurant would have been more crowded but it was nice to have it half full so that our service and food would be swifter. I did notice one thing about the wait staff of women - all beautiful and meeting a certain cup size. Reminds of the Seinfeld diner episode. That aside our waitress was fantastic - helpful, charming and attentive. The prix fix food was excellent - cream of tomato soup, shrimp risotto and chocolate cake. Wine excellent as well. All in all an excellent experience."

  • "Still has good food but always crowded. Very important to have a reservation and one can't expect the waitress to attend much to one's needs. Convenient place to go but not if you want attention from the staff."

  • "That's about it. OK, but not exciting. The service was a tad slow, given that it wasn't extremely busy there. A very pleasant place visually, and lovely to eat without having to shout across the table."

  • "A friend took me to Sarabeth's two years ago while I was visiting from California. I had the most delicious French Toast. It was definitely on my list of places to eat on my trip back to New York. The food was just as I remembered, I highly recommend this place!!"

  • "Overall, enjoyed our dining experience on Thanksgiving Day. There were sufficient choices and ample, delectable servings. The wait staff could not have been more cheerful or helpful. They really made our day! It was a bit off-putting to be directed to wait outside (in the frigid air) until the dot of 1pm, the time of the first seating for dinner."

  • "We had a lovely dinner - traditional Thanksgiving but with a twist - excellent cocktails, and our server couldn't have been sweeter. We left full and happy."

  • "We have eaten here before and it has always been good. Based on that, we thought that it would be a good place to have Thanksgiving dinner rather than cook a big meal at home. Our first time ever to do that (eat out) on TG. This is a very nice restaurant, food it good, service always friendly and efficient. Most of that held true on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the Thanksgiving dinner we paid almost $200.00 for (tip, two glasses of wine, and the set menu) was nearly inedible. The food was so salty it was completely unenjoyable to eat. The turkey (processed breasts), stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry dressing, crabcake, were all so salty all you could taste was salt. We will eat here again, but not for Thanksgiving."

  • "The restaurant has a great breakfast menu and the eggs are very good. We did not expect it to be so busy and loud on a Monday morning, though! The place is nice and has a cozy look but the tables close to the windows are very chilly, making the dining experience in winter a bit uncomfortable, as you have to keep your coat on. The food gets cold quickly too. Perhaps a table further inside might have been warmer, but the restaurant was very noisy."

  • "This brunch hotspot actually serves up quite a dinner as well — some of the food was served colder than ideal, but the taste was supreme."

  • "BETWEEN THE WAITRESS & BUSBOY THEY FORGOT TO BRING US BREAD UPON SEATING AND GETTING MENU. ONLY AFTER EATING THE MAIN COURSE AND SEEING OTHERS GET A BREAD BASKET DID WE SAY SOMETHING TO THE WAITRESS WHO REPLIED THAT THE BUSBOY FORGOT. SEVERAL OTHER TABLES HAD TO ASK THE WAITRESS FOR BREAD PLATES. WHEN GETTING THE DESSERT MENU ONEITEM WAS A BERRY CRUMB PIE BUT SHE FORGOT TO SAY WHAT KIND OF BERRIES IT WAS. WE HAD TO ASK AFTER HER RETURN TO ORDER DESSERT. I BELIEVE THAT THE MANAGEMENT HAS TO DO A BETTER JOB OF TRAINING THEIR WAITERS & WAITRESSES."

  • "As someone who had often visited the Sarabeth's near my son's school (Hunter College Elementary through High School), but only for many brunches, I've been surprised at the excellence of the food at dinner during two recent visits to the Upper West Side venue. This is a very pleasant, quiet dining experience, with excellent waitstaff. But the food is surprisingly fine, with a recent trip including pork chop with fried gnocci, my vegetarian date enjoying pumpkin tortellini in brown butter with spinach. Desserts really are close to first-rate, especially the chocolate pudding. This is by no means an inexpensive restaurant, but I'd rate it high for value, good for an extended dinner experience."

  • "Pretty good food, service was fine - there were 8 of us, and we went on a weeknight, so the restaurant was quiet. It was a good place for my family to catch up."

  • "I don't understand why this restaurant is popular. The food is nothing to write home about & they are so overpriced for what you get. Although our waitress was nice, we did not get adequate flatware for our table of 7 (not enough forks, no teaspoons when we ordered tea & coffee), we didn't get our "doggie bag" (one person in our party ordered a hamburger ate half and wanted to take the other half home) but after we paid and asked for the other half, we were told that they threw it out & we would have to wait another 20 minutes while the chef made a new one. If they had any class, they would have taken the hamburger off the tab. We will not be returning to this restaurant."
