Diner Reviews
  • "Sounded like heaven in concept, but the delivery was subar. Came out a soupy mess, sent it back and came back even worse the second time! Sadly, I didn't even get the chance to try a bite.I would cut into it and out came a river of liquid eggs and others soupy mixture. Sigh, too bad. Was really looking forward. Ordered the spinach/goat cheese omelette ( really can't go wrong with that) and it was lovely. Thus the redeeming 3.5 stars."

  • "Sarabeth's is always a great choice. It opens at 8am so don't plan to get in the door any earlier. The fruit plate and the baked goods plus great egg dishes make it a must for brunch/breakfast eaters."

  • "Remains a top breakfast location with super omelets , pancakes , etc. Portions more than ample. Great baked goods."

  • "The food was outstanding! The lemon ricotta pancakes melt in your mouth, and are just the right balance of sweet and tart. The scones were delicious, soft and creamy with just a hint of crunch. The service was perfect - they even put a celebratory candle in my Mom's pumpkin muffin! The Bloody Mary was unusual - there were enough vegetables in it to qualify as a salad!"

  • "Everything we had, including the bread and squash chick pea spread for it, was perfectly cooked and delicious. We shared and appetizer and main course (delicious sea bass in a slightly spicy sauce--cooked just right--not under or over done) and they were totally nice about it... This is a restaurant I look forward to returning to whenever I am in that neighborhood...."

  • "We went to dinner here after spending a day at the MET and it was perfect. The atmosphere, food, and service were all absolutely outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "It's all in the hollandaise sauce! We have been enjoying this neighborhood gem for years for brunch - we have never been disappointed. The signature Bloody Mary is wonderful too - enjoy the celery sticks!"

  • "was a bit disappointed by the food and atmosphere. Basically, it's just an average brunch restaurant, which is kind of overpriced."

  • "The place needs some TLC - it looks old and the leather on our booth had huge tears. The food was okay, but we were a bit disappointed with the whole experience. We went there after reading several positive reviews about the place, so maybe we just had higher expectations. The cappuccino was watery and a bit tasteless, and I've had better granola at home. The adult grilled cheese with tomato soup was really good though."

  • "Great breakfast as always! So glad we could reserve a table."

  • "Sarabeth is a great baker. So if you go to one of her restaurants, leave room for dessert. We had a fabulous chocolate cake and a "to die for" raspberry bread pudding. As for the rest of the food, it is okay but nothing to write home about. Avoid the chicken pot pie -- the chicken is very tough."

  • "Best for lunch and brunch. There are better meals to be had for dinner in this neighborhood."

  • "Great neighborhood location, close to the Met. We ate here before going to the museum. Great pot of hot tea. We ordered green & white eggs, popeye eggs, and french toast w/bacon. Absolutely delicious! Going to make my eggs like that at home! My husband loved the marinated tomatoes. It was a treat to have the scone with collated cream and jam. I wish I would have bought some jam and other goodies to take home with me! Service was okay, not mean but just not as sociable."

  • "We love Sarabeth's!! I love the atmosphere! I prefer the one in Amsterdam and 81th. It is so cozy and beautiful!!! In our one-month visit to NY we went six times for breakfast!! Our favorite dishes are the eggs Benedict and the french toast. Don't miss it!"

  • "I'm a long-time fan of Sarabeth's (and visit the Chelsea Market location frequently), I found the atmosphere at this location rather sad. We had a Sunday dinner there, and the worn out carpet and outdated fixtures, plus the dreary Muzak contributed to the impression that the place had seen better days (in the 1980s), and that it was now more of a place for older couples and lone diners (not that there's anything wrong with older couples and lone diners). Despite that, the service was excellent, and the food was good, though heavy. To be fair, it's probably a totally different environment for weekend brunch."

  • "I was with a group of 4 people and we really enjoyed the ambience, the food was very good and well prepared, the service was wonderful and it was on overall good dining experience. It was fun to buy cookies and jellies after we paid for our meal."

  • "Sarabeth's reputation for quality bit the dust years ago. Biting dust is exactly what eating their muffins is like. Yes, the jams and preserves are excellent, but any diner will give you better food."

  • "it was in upper east side. expected some elegant and comfortable brunch time but the reality was that it was just crowded and the service was not remarkable. the food? egg benedict was so famous but when i tried some, i felt the one i had eaten at hotel was better."

  • "Our dinner was good and we were looking for a quiet private table and were accommodated. I recommend the restaurant for dinner, lunch or brunch. It's a great neighborhood choice."

  • "Sarabeth's remains a reliable Upper Eastside restaurant. Its menu was improved, and included a delicious Seafood Cobb - with a good mix of crab, lobster, shrimp. We also had Almond-Crusted Chicken - somewhat bland but well-cooked. However, the chicken was served with mashed sweet potatoes and sunchokes ("Jerusalem artichoke") both high in carbs. Service was very good. Sarabeth's also serves unlimited bottled water - flat or sparkling - for $3 per person, a good deal. The upholstery at a large banquette is ripped and seems badly in need of repairs - but that didn't appear to bother a large family who occupied the large table without hesitation. We'll be back."

  • "Long wait. Food very good but not as outstanding as aspected from such famous place."

  • "loud kids all over this restaurant. Décor is in desperate need of an overhaul with ripped seats on the banquet next to us. The bathrooms were filthy as well which is reason enough to never return."

  • "Went for dinner with a few friends on a Friday night after going to the Met. Good food. Moderately priced (40 dollars a person entree and dessert)"

  • "A pleasant experience on a Thursday night. Our only complaint was that the lobster was too dry -- a bit overcooked with lemon as the only "moisturizer" available. We will return and try again another evening. "

  • "Three course lobster dinner for $39 dollars!! Outstanding duck entree also very reasonably priced and the fresh catch of the day was superb. We had a party of 5 and some were late. The server and hostess were very understanding and gracious (it was a Tuesday night, but still pretty busy). Our waitress was very attentive and great at guiding all of us first-timers to Sarabeth's to starters and appetizers that we really enjoyed. "

  • "It's an institution for uptown WASPs, with a well-earned reputation for its cookies and reliability. Its food is bland as can be, like pasta without a hint of garlic or a lobster roll drowned in mayo, but its clientele loves it that way, so who am I to complain? Prices are very high for what it serves. We were seated 15 minutes after the reservation time, and a waiter came to see us only after another 20 minutes, which is unacceptable. Think of it as a restaurant in a wealthy Connecticut suburb that some people are glad to find in Manhattan. "

  • "Great neighborhood spot for a quick bite with some friends, or even when alone. We had dinner at Sarabeth's upon recommendation from the 92Y website, and it was a great find. A true neighborhood gem, I noticed the host and servers knew some of the customers, but also made new faces feel right at home. Reasonable prix fixe too!"

  • "Overall glad my out-of-town friend asked to meet at SaraBeth's Upper East Side.. We reschedulead a midweek lunch reservation to the start of Tea Time.,3:30, so entered a near-empty room, with choice of Tea of Lunch menu. Friendly welcome to large, comfortable round padded booth. By 4:30 there were perhaps a half dozen other diners. My omelette was fluffy but somewhat dull with very fresh feta cheese and spinach but no other flavors/herbs detectable. Corn muffin hard + dry. Sarabeth gourmet jam DELICIOUS as always - I often buy it here in NYC. Service was inattentive. In a nearly empty room, should not have to remind to fill water and coffee during a meal! BEST FEATURE: quiet spacious room. We could talk softly not out-shout music."

  • "A Lovely comfortable restaurant in a refurbished old space that brings you back to an earlier time. Incredible tomato soup, great food and amazing cookies for desert with (relatively) reasonable prices for NYC!"

  • "We started our day at Sarabeth's on our son's 10th birthday. We made a reservation for 8:30am and were glad that we did. Food options were there for everyone (full breakfast, muffin and homemade jams, pancakes, yogourt etc...). Service was not rushed, despite the line up of people waiting for a table, and everything was fresh and nicely presented. We will definitely return to one of Sarabeth's locations when we go back to NY!"
