Diner Reviews
  • "This is a quiet, neighborhood restaurant serving unpretentious food and drink. It's a real relief in an area filled with crowded, over-priced high-energy, noisy, touristy restaurants. Sarabeth's is not a singles scene or nightlife place. It offers good food, prompt pleasant service. While on a four day visit to NYC we actually dined at Sarabeth's twice, the second time because we were so pleased with the first. On our second visit, when my wife's salad wasn't quite what she expected, the staff cheerfully made it to her liking. They definitely strive to make the customer happy. Don't miss the salted caramel ice cream which they make themselves."

  • "Sarabeth's is a tradition with my girls and me before a day of back-to-school shopping providing good food and quiet ambiance. Not so anymore. The place was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk. The food was mediocre and the staff exceptionally rude and uncaring. We had reservations but still waited. So no more Sarabeths and on to greener, quieter pastures."

  • "As good as usual ! Eggs benedict super tasty . Good omelette and perfect pancakes !"

  • "I visited there just for experience because Sarabeth's in Tokyo is a hot spot. I had pancakes, my dauter also did so and my wife had fruites. Totally they costed me $85 including tips."

  • "Horribly noisy, formerly terrific food just mediocre-very disappointing."

  • "We saw others' reviews and decided to try. At certain times of the day there is a wait because the food and service as that good! We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere as well. All of the small touches, right down to the hand-painted ceilings, offered a light and refreshing environment for the great food. Sarabeth's offers fabulous variety in the menu, no matter which meal you're there for."

  • "What a huge disappointment. Go to Cookshop or Pain Quotidien"

  • "Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff. Loved it - right across from Central Park which was wonderful."

  • "When we arrived we were seated in mediated and greater by wonderful staff and server. The inside was a bit stuffy so we sat outside. It was a great brunch and the omelet and drinks were solid."

  • "The lemon and ricotta pancakes are delicious, even if a bit too expensive. The cappuccino and coffee are ok, but they can be improved. 8$ for an orange juice is really too much."

  • "Good Eggbenedit, but poor service as always. The servers are hasty and not paying attention"

  • "For this recent trip to Sarabeth's, I surprised my mom for a special mother-daughter lunch. For a Friday afternoon it seemed to be very busy but with a reservation booked at the beginning of the week, we were seated right away. Breakfast items were being served until 3pm so of course we had to take advantage of that. I ordered the spinach and goat cheese omelet with a pumpkin muffin on the side and my mom ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was delicious! Sarabeth's should be a must on everyone's list. I highly recommend making reservations ahead of time because the wait could be very long, especially on the weekends. But the food is always amazing!"

  • "This restaurant is a great place with plenty going on, the food and service were very good although it was a little noisy and chaotic for us. From the moment we entered we were crammed into the foyer and just stood around waiting for a table. I know space is a premium in NYC but we are not used to this bring from the uk. Overall a good experience to say we have been but and although you must go, wouldn't go again!!!"

  • "I've eaten at this Sarabeth's before for lunch and had a great experience, so we decided to try it out again, but this time for an early weekday breakfast for a party of six. I'm delighted to report that the experience was just as good. The food here is always prepared extremely well, the service attentive and cordial, and the ambience pleasant but not too upscale. Overall, I highly recommend this place for any meal as I've now had two in a row that were equally superb."

  • "We took a chicken pot pie, which was delicious!! The cookie plate was a bit disappointing compared to the chocolate pot-de-creme, but they were both very good! The service was good but a bit too pressing. Overall, it's a good place, and I would love to come back try the brunch!"

  • "They didn't read my opentable request in which I asked for a nice table for this special birthday dinner. The restaurant was nearly empty but they gave my group a booth table with no extra space and no view of the park. Service was very slow. Took 10 minutes to get water and the bread basket came after the food was delivered. Finally, someone mentioned it was a birthday when the check came, and the waiter said we should have mentioned it sooner... but I had put it in the opentable special requests. The food was great, but sometimes that's not enough."

  • "Overrated. Food was basic and not well-executed. I ordered an omelette that was not at all seasoned, tomatoes and jalapeños were not cooked. Rest of our orders were mediocre. Ambiance is noisy and no air conditioning!?!? I fear this is a tourist trap, don't understand all the hype."

  • "Fantastic place for brunch. Great location. Beautiful ambiance. Next time, i want to come here for dinner for the great view."

  • "Even making a reservation a week ahead we still waited 15min which wasnt so bad until we see our table . I had a party of 3 yet they tried to cram us onto a two person tiny table! Ridiculous! Other parties who didnt even make a.reservation and only waited 30min had better tables . We complained and got moved to a slightly bigger table. Ontop of that because of it being overcrowded it was a noisy lunch. And the food pancakes/french toast was good but nothing special i think. Our server was nice and friendly though."

  • "This restaurant must be on every tourist to New York's to-do list. The breakfast is a mob scene, but, as always with Sarabeth, the food is original and delicious."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "Service was efficient but waitress was a little brusque with us. Not impolite, just not particularly friendly. Also, air conditioning in the back where we were seated was definitely not working--pretty uncomfortably hot and humid. Food, as always at Sarabeth's, was delicious."

  • "Sarabeth's is on my list of favorite NYC spots! Loved it!"
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "Sarabeth's used to be my favourite brunch spot in NY. Now it is a bit of a machine, cold and unfriendly. A little too crowded, a bit rushed, reservation (if made) do not seem to mean a whole lot and you just fall into the same queue as walk-ins. The food quality has also dropped a bit, cold (and extremely small) latte, lukewarm and somewhat tasteless eggs. Chicken sausage and jam still excellent. We actually were seated in what is effectively a hallway with no air. Come on Sarabeth's, you can stop squeezing in tables in places they should not be in order to multiply revenues. Bring back the old Sarabeth's."

  • "We had dinner there on Saturday evening, August 2nd. First of all, we ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees. The appetizer came out the same time as our salads - strange? Secondly, my husband ordered the fresh pasta with shrimp. It was so spicy, he could not eat it."

  • "Enjoyed an amazing brunch sitting outside with a view of Central Park. Incredible food. Enjoyed a kale and eggs salade which tasted really great. Loved sipping coffee early in the morning while having a view of beautiful Central Park."

  • "Omelette was mediocre. Ricotta pancakes had good lemon flavor but were undercooked. Ew. Best part of meal was toast with house jam."
    Dined on 7/31/2014
  • "The service and food were great. The tables are practically on top of each other to maximize seating--this was a bit of a turnoff."
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "Service was EXTREMELY slow, considering that we were one of only a few parties there. Our waitress never seemed to be there. All told, the meal took 2.5 hours for a burger and a bowl of gelato."
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "We tried the eggs and the lemon ricotta pancakes. Both were good. But I don't understand what the hype is about. The line is long, even with reservation, we needed to wait for c. 15 minutes."

  • "After a day of sightseeing, found the menu had something for everyone, a good wine list and quiet atmosphere with a view of a garden. Of course good dessert options. Outdoor tables on Central Park South were available."

  • "Inside is great, but outside is even more fun. My favorite is the Lobster Roll, but there are many choices! The cocktails are fun, strong(!) and delicious. One of my favs when in midtown."

  • "The service was unusually quick, food was delicious and staff were really friendly and helpful!"

  • "My friend and I each ordered a hamburger. Everything was good about it except for the flavor of the meat which tasted nothing like sirloin as noted on the menu. The taste was similar to a fatty fast food burger. This was a big disappointment coming from Sarabeth's knowing that their food is normally of the highest quality."
    Dined on 7/27/2014
  • "We ate at Sarabeth's in the evening. Not the famous brunch. The service was friendly, which is itself notable in New York. Not obsequious or fawning, but genuine and friendly. The environment is casual enough that we didn't feel out-of-place dressed to walk in hot July weather. The food was outstanding. I had the lemon sole. It was as good as I've had anywhere, at any price. My teenage son had the chicken caesar salad, and it was not only excellent and fresh, but had more chicken than he could finish. As it was my wife's birthday, we shared a delicious fudge cake."
    Dined on 7/27/2014
  • "The food was served in about 12 minutes after being seated. The menu says no substitutions during brunch so all food is just preprepared and picked up. It just didn't taste freshly prepared. The air conditioning was not working adequately the day we were there. It was quite warm inside."

  • "I visited during my holiday with our family for bruch and the serviced meal have good quality and have good service."

  • "We have been to SB several times--though mostly for brunch--this time dinner. The salads were very good. Would not recommend the pizza--looked and tasted like a frozen pizza from a grocery store."

  • "Stopped here for breakfast with family and friends during a visit to NYC. Good food and attentive staff. If Sarabeth's has one downfall, it is perhaps that it only opened at 8 a.m., although saying that, the staff were accommodating and allowed people that were early to sit down inside before being seated at their tables."
