A word from Sapphire
Sapphire serves multiregional fare in an airy, serene space. The food is well worth its price, and the prix fixe lunch is quite a buy.

Diner Reviews
  • "We love Indian food but have found our children ask to go to Sapphire. It is always delicious and feels special. Plus, there are not a lot of interesting food options in the West 60s."

  • "What a great restaurant! I really enjoyed the lunch buffet and the place. It's close to where I live and wish I've visited there before. Great food for great deal!"

  • "This restaurant is convenient to Lincoln Center. The food was good but the service was I attentive and the staff in general was rude."

  • "Sapphire is a perfect place to dine with people you really enjoy talking to. The Indian food is excellent. The restaurant is quiet! The tables are well-spaced. This meant that our party could have real conversation, and because we were dining at 7:30 on a rainy Monday night we were able to linger for more than two hours with several empty tables around us and not get nudged along by the staff. Most hospitable. Most delicious."

  • "Not great flavours or tastes but I think that's pretty much par for the course in US Indian restaurants. Definitely not worth a visit if you like your Indian food."

  • "We recommend it before a performance at Lincoln Center. I highly recommend the tandoori shrimp."

  • "The lunch buffet can't be surpassed. Delicious, graciously served, great variety."

  • "Only steps from Jazz at Lincoln Center, this was perfect for pre- or post-performance meal. Attractive space and good service. I love Indian food and the variety here is appealing. Everything was delicious."

  • "Reasonably priced near Lincoln Center. Very nice buffet Saturday, well-priced."

  • "If you love great Indian food this is not the place for you. The food is sub par. Ambiance and service were good. I think my water glass was topped off at least six times. The food was just not very good. After sitting for a few min the palak paneer developed a puddle of oil near the spoon. The vegetables in the byrani were plentiful but over cooked"

  • "Food was OK but we have had several much better currys (in the UK to be fair) . Service was fairly grumpy! Would not recommend."

  • "I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants over the years, and I've liked this one among the best. Friendly, attentive service, lovely surroundings, most of the dishes you'd expect plus several I haven't seen elsewhere. I have eaten here quite a number of times over several years and never had a bad meal. The lunch buffet is also particularly good. I particularly like the chatapata poori appetizer and the lamb kohlapuri and lamb xacutti dishes. My wife likes the kerala chicken. They make a mean Bombay Sapphire martini, too."

  • "So glad that we finally tried this. Interior design and background music are both outstanding. Cuisine was just fine. Will keep on our Lincoln Center list."

  • "A moderately priced Lincoln Center area restaurant, helpful when a curtain deadline looms. Food is good, there is an ample, reasonably priced wine list, BUT----service is variable. From the unsmiling, borderline surly welcome to the waiters who rushed about without stopping to ask what we needed, to the semi-suave, obsequious waiter who alternated between too jokey to oily--and he could not divide the check when told to put 40% on one card and 20% on each of the other 3. A mixed bag."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "A very pleasant experience in a difficult neughborhood. We we're veer happy with the food, and they got us out in time for a ridiculously early curtain. I don't know how I've missed it all these years, but I will go back."

  • "One of my favorites. The food and service are always wonderful. It is usually relatively quiet and we have always been on time for the performances. We have loved this restaurant for groups of two to fifteen and it has worked quite well."

  • "Ideal before Lincoln Center. The restaurant is an elegant and calm environment which is lovely and soothing."

  • "The best Indian food around! Never disappoints. Great before going to Lincoln Center or just for a wonderful meal."

  • "Within easy walking distance of Lincoln Center this is a most useful restaurant. The service is quick and excellent. The ambience is pleasant. There is a wide variety of Indian dishes to choose from and the prices are moderate for this quality in this area. Most of all, the restaurant is quiet, unlike many other places near Lincoln Center. The quality of the food is consistently enjoyable if not exceptional, and there is a good wine list."

  • "This restaurant is a valuable resource in the problematic Lincoln Center area. The food on our visit was excellent, drinks competently made, and service professional. The room is large, elegant and well appointed. We also appreciated the low noise level, affording the opportunity to have a relaxed conversation at which every word could be easily understood. From my research, it seems that prices have recently risen, so our tab was more than we had planned on. Nevertheless, we will return."

  • "Love coming here: dishes are very tasty, beautifully presented. Portions are generous, so the appetizer spicy shrimp Balchao would be plenty as a main course with another side dish. The Lacha Pratha (multilayered bread) is fun to eat and excellent. Service is very attentive, atmosphere is attractive, calming, with well spaced tables. We never tire of coming here and always receive a warm greeting."

  • "The exquiste food and exceptional service make for a real treat. The $14.95 all-you can eat lunch buffet is certainly the best lunch bargin in the area. Dinner is a bit more expensive, but worth it by all means. The baby lamb chops are divine!"

  • "We brought our young friends from India (we are senior citizens). They are most happy eating their own foods. They were so pleased with the choice of restaurant, the quality & taste of the food. Their 2 year old son kept opening his mouth for more. This is a special place that I would bring other friends & relatives."

  • "Very good food. The coconut sorbet is the BEST anywhere. Worth a visit just for this wonderful dessert."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "I go here fairly often, usually to have lunch with friends and the buffet is reliably tasty and diverse--not always trhe same old things. Without wine and with tip it now costs us about $20 each. Up considerable from when I started going there, but still I think a good value for the money. Hot bread provided with buffet."

  • "Excellent service from the moment you walk in till the time you leave. The staff caters to you & is totally knowledgeable about each meal which is important for people who have never had Indian food or only familiar w/ a few of them. They also serve dishes that I've never seen in any other Indian restaurant in NY. The owner makes a point to visit each table & he's quite personable & charming. He often buys drinks for his clients & spends time w/ them as well. Once thing I will emphasize is that the it is a bit pricey but that puts them a cut about all the small mom & pop shops that really can't come close to them."

  • "The food and service are always reliable, the staff attentive."

  • "Baby lamb chop was delicious! Chicken tikki masala could be more spicy but the flavour is good and subtle yet complex."

  • "We were at Sapphire on a very cold night so the restaurant was relatively quiet. Hard to evaluate some of the categories in the above list -- for example, "Vibrant Bar Scene.""

  • "One of the best Indian restaurants in Manhattan, conveniently located close to Lincoln Center. The lamb chops are outstanding!"

  • "Nice ambience...good service...delicious food...you never feel rushed....what more do you want. It's a moderately priced restaurant that tastes more expensive than the prices! We've been here a number of times and will return again."

  • "The food was very good but not exceptional. As restaurant has a broad menu, it definitely warrants a second visit. Restaurant was very busy and loud but service prompt."

  • "During this visit to New York City, my husband and I ate twice at Sapphire. The first time, we had the stuffed poori and the scallop appetizers, vegetable biryani, okra and paratha. The second time, we skipped the appetizers and added saag paneer to the rice and bhindi masala dishes and exchanged the paratha for poori. I love eating at Sapphire because of its convenient location at Columbus Circle and equally because of the service. The food has consistently been outstanding over the several years that I have dined there. I'm getting hungry thinking about it!"
