Sapphire Laguna reach-in wine vaults house an eclectic collection of wines – more than 900 bottles, emphasizing varietals from around the world. All vintages are stored in temperature-controlled units behind a rustic wall made from actual wine staves. In addition, approximately 25 wines by the glass are available. Menu samples and wine offerings can be found on Sapphire Laguna's website.

  • "The food here was good but not as special as our haughty waiter told us. We will not return here since the waiter had no idea how to make us feel comfortable. It was more about him and how special his restaurant is. My 22 year old son who lives in New York ordered crudo and he asked him if he knew what that was. Buddy, crudo isn't that unique. He also cleared some empty wine glasses and didn't realize I gave my daughter some wine and spilled a little on her and her phone. He didn't apologize or offer to get her more or anything. We eat at a lot of nice restaurants all over the country and this isn't one of them."

  • "The bartender was very nice and gave us excellent service. It was when we sat down that things went down hill. Our waiter was awful from the get go. The food was delicious but it couldn't make up for the service. When you spend over $300.00 for dinner you expect to have a good experience. We will not be back."

  • "This is a excellent restaurant for the meals are imaginatively created and well-prepared in a casual yet totally lovely setting. I much prefer the dinner menu as being more interesting menu than the lunch offerings. Some of the lunch items are somewhat conventional, though they are excellent. A favorite lunch item is the sampler box, which changes weekly. It offers variety. Serving sizes are modest. On a busy summer day lunch can mean a fairly long wait once being seated. Fine preparation for meals takes time. Margaritas are outstanding for they are freshly made from scratch, none of the usual bottled lemonade that most bars use. Sapphire recently designed the menu for the Tastes open-air restaurant on Crystal Cruises. A big hit."

  • "Saturday brunch menu looked great, with many choices. We had fish tacos, fried chicken salad, and eggs benedict. All were poor! Eggs were nothing better than an open faced Egg McMuffin with a lot of sauce, nothing to make it a gourmet standout; fried chicken salad was grossly overcooked and dry, with more overcooked batter than edible chicken; fish tacos had way to much blackened seasoning so they were impossible to eat."

  • "Walking in the door you immediately notice the exquisite glass light fixtures. The heirloom tomato salad is crisp and tasty with a light, fresh dressing. I was told the halibut was outstanding but it disappeared so fast, no one else at the table got a taste. The steak with lobster ravioli won rave reviews and the whole grilled branzino was delicious. Dessert was dark chocolate crème brulee with a home made marshmallow was yummy but you just have to try the bananas foster bread pudding - OMG."

  • "Great restaurant with very good food, however they detract from the meal by being so slow. When everyone starts looking at their watches wondering where the food is, there is something going on! I am basing this on several visits, so it wasn't just one slow night (which can happen to anyone). I like this place because their patio is very nice and comfortable, the food and service are both good, but the speed of delivery is just that bit too long that it takes away from the overall experience. I understand that when things are cooked from fresh it takes more time, but others perform in a much more timely manner. Really a shame, it forces me to think twice if i want to invite people there, nothing worse than a dragging dinner."

  • "Sapphire is a fun spot for lunch or dinner! Outside seating is a premium. We sat inside by windows and loved it. The pork loin was outstanding with mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts!! My husband was not happy with the beef tenderloin and lobster ravioli because the beef lacked flavor and the sauce was overpowering. The lobster ravioli was delicious, though. Wine selection was great. Our server suggested a wine after we told him the type of Pinot Noir we liked and he was spot on. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry. We would go back the next time we are visiting Laguna Beach. Reservations are helpful as weekends are busy."

  • "This was our first time at Sapphire. When I made my reservation I put in a request for a patio table, but was told they cannot guarantee it. When we arrived for our reservation we were immediately seated at a beautiful patio table even though the restaurant was packed. We were greeted right away by our server who was knowledgeable and attentive though out the whole evening. Service was outstanding and the only reason I did not give the food 5 stars was because I ordered the wrong entrée for myself. I ordered the whole Branzino fish which was clearly noted on the menu, but I did not expect to find as many bones in this fish. It was very tasty, but very difficult to eat. My fault for ordering the fish served whole. I would come back again."

  • "I took my daughter there for her 20th birthday dinner. We and a delightful and relaxing dinner. The food was very good. The only critique I have is that the Hamachi Crudo was too spicy for my liking but I'm sure those who don't mind spice would love it. The ambience was lovely and the service was very good as well. We have dined there many times and will go back again."

The unique menu offerings are delightful and we were pleased to find our favorite dishes at Sapphire as well. We are fortunate to have Sapphire close to home and will certainly return."

  • "We hadn't visited Sapphire Laguna in several years, but fortunately, nothing has changed. It's still a reliable place for tasty, well-prepared, creatively presented food that crosses many international culinary borders. They tend to emphasize seafood (especially fish), which is a good thing, because they're experts at it. Portions tend to be large, so plan accordingly, especially with appetizers. There are several on the menu that are almost too much for one person and would be better shared (e.g., the corn soup). The octopus salad is excellent--some of the tenderest octopus I've ever had, because it's sliced so thin. Main dishes: they have a super paella, and their version of surf and turf is a great beef tenderloin with lobster ravioli."

  • "My son and I decided to have an early dinner/late lunch (linner). We were sat beside the service station. When asked if we could sit elsewhere the hostess told us that she expected us earlier and the whole place was reserved for the night. We had a reservation. The food is worth a trip;BUT, we could not get a meal. We were there at 4:30 and after making our decision the waiter took the menu and said that we had to order from the small plate menu. So they could make sliders but not a full sized burger? Our waiter was very nice, very helpful. There was no one on the patio when we left, not packed like the hostess gave as the reason why we could not seat elsewhere. Hopefully they will up their service because the food deserves better."

  • "I am a total soup geek and I eagerly tried the corn chowder here and it was off the charts amazing! The corn puree was thick and tasty, had chunks of smoky, thick-cut bacon and Dungeness crab... amazing! Everything else we had was great (we ordered 6 apps for two of us for tasting), but the chowder was the standout. We would love to come back again..."

  • "Our waiter raved about the amazing things the chef-owner was creating. We were not amazed at all. Sardine app was pure vinegar. Artichoke salad was mostly frisee. The paella was blah and flavorless, served in a cute copper pan. The only universally liked dish in our party was the fresh tasty corn crab chowder. Cocktails also missed the mark. They have an interesting wine list with fair markups. Seating outside is nice, but PCH traffic noise can be irritating."

  • "A pre booked Birthday dinner at a favorite restaurant. Great! To be greeted by a host who gave us an afterthought table that everyone walked around in close proximity was disappointing. This was not the intimate setting previouly enjoyed. Service started good then tailed off. Noise from the bar some 5 feet away was loud. Food was very rich this time. We didn't take dessert. Plus points: the view. Negative points: the location of the table and service that tailed off. It will be a while before we come vack at this cost."

  • "I eat at Sapphire at least once a week. It's the best restaurant in Laguna hands down. Truly an innovative and delicious menus. HOWEVER, On my last visit as I arrived for my reservation I requested a patio seat. I looked out and there was only ONE table sitting outside. Yet both the manager and the hostess said "wait let's see if we can find you a table" to which I was blown away. They made wait a few minutes to see if they could find me a seat outside. Finally the hostess came back and said "the only seat we have for you is a communal seat" which I actually would have preferred in the first place IF they had taken the time to ask. Instead they recited some policy nonsense about I didn't put "patio" as a preference in my reservation. "

  • "Went for an early dinner with a friend, and we ended up with all appetizers and dessert instead. Not a fan of the house Vodka-fruit Martini, but then again, I'm a Stoli girl! Lamb Dumplings were phenomenal! Herbed Potato Chips were amazing. And to top it off, we had the Chocolate Creme Brulee with Marshmallow Fluff for dessert with really good coffee. Service was friendly. Parking in the lot behind the restaurant was easy. Hostesses were helpful. Chef Azmin came around to tables and said hi. We had a great time!"

  • "The service and general friendliness was reall top shelf. The appetizers and salads were very good; however, the entrees (lamb and rib eye steak) were not very good. My rib eye steak was full of fat and grissle. With a check for $170 (including cocktails), I would expect better, especially after our waiter told us that everything on the menu was excellent!"

  • "Had dinner for two on a Thursday. The little place was packed so thank goodness for reservations. The Chardonnay was great with the barramundi. My server, however, forgot my appetizer and our drinks were not refilled timely. I love the place but it cost me $158 for the two of us with only one glass of wine each! I think the service should have been better."

I would recommend asking your server for opinions they seem to have a pretty good knowledge of what to consider and what to pass on. Ambiance is wonderful, inside or out. Sapphire is a good choice for dining out in Laguna. "
