However, of all restaurants, Santorini is the one that stands out. The interior of the restaurant is clearly visible to all that walk by. THe decoration and colors are very appealing and that was one of the reasons that my friend and I thought of trying eating there. The menu is perfect for anyone wanting to try this type of food. The service was good; I didn't give them a "5" because we waited a long time to pay for our dinner. But, our waiter was an attentive, handsome Greek so we didn't mind much. The spinach salad and lemon rice soup were both really, really divine. The side salads were generously portioned and all the food I sampled was really tasty and didn't seem like typical chain restaurant meals at all. The entire experience was very good and I would not hesitate to use Open Table or go to Santorini. Santorini exceeded our expectations. The restaurant had a great vibe, the service was outstanding, and the food was excellent. I had the lentil salad to start and it was outstanding - so fresh and tasty. The salmon was delicious, but my friend's lamb chops were better. The potato and mushroom mash was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Our waiter was attentive without hovering. No issues with getting separate checks and we were not forced into an 18% gratuity which probably resulted in better tips for our waiter. We were able to make a reservation thought OPen Table and were seated promptly when we arrived. Will definetly come back when I am in Detroit. The decor is much lighter and warm than it was when it was Mosaic. This is the type of place where it's great to order a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees, and split and share. We had saganaki, shrimp with peppers, and then shared two entrees. One was the veggie trio, and the other was phylo wrapped shrimp. All was very good - the Moussaka was done lighter than traditional greek restaurants, and was delicious. They have a nice wine and cocktail selection. I had the appetizer special of beet greens and beets with olive oil and vinegar. Glad I took our servers advice to try - it was delicious. Feta cheese on Greek salad was wonderful. The tzatziki sauce with my Gyros was the best I've ever had. Server was attentive and friendly. We decided to go to this new restaurant Detroit Restaurant Week. I ordered a lamb shank dish. It was extremely good. The lamb had the flavor of American Farm raised lamb (The lamb from New Zealand or Australia is too strong for my taste). The portion size was very good. The sides with main entree was also very true to real Greek Food.
We tried the Shrimp appetizer, it was as good as the main entree. The Greek Salad also had its own house made sauce. I like the flavor of Greek olive oil.

The true test is avogolemeno soup which most restaurants serve as a gelatinous bowl of goo. Santorini executes perfectly on this delicate soup. We asked our waiter (Greek) for an off menu combination of food, plated for the three of us. He was happy to oblige and everything was absolutely outstanding! Pastichio and Moussaka were both heavenly as was lamb shank and dolmathes. FIVE STARS! Oh, on ambiance - toooo bright in there. Could be much cozier with proper lighting.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
