Diner Reviews
  • "Not only was the presentation of the food "wowing", the flavors of the dish were outstanding. Everyone one at the table tremendously enjoyed their choice, as well as the gluten free appetizer. My friend was so impressed with the gluten free choices. This was a gem which was referred to us by a friend. We will continue to refer other friends to this restaurant and will make sure to dine here again. We also loved that reservations were available."

  • "Excellent food! Cheesy appetizer was yummy and large enough to share! The wait staff was friendly and very helpful!! We'll definitely recommend to others."

  • "We tried the Santa Fe Cafe for the first time during our recent trip to HH. We had late dinner reservations for the roof top patio. Fun and vibrant ambience, especially since they had live music that night. If you want seated outdoors, I would definitely plan ahead as there are not a lot of tables up there. Food was amazing as well. My husband had the appetizer ceviche and couldn't stop raving about it. Great quality food and presentation overall. Will defintely go back!"

  • "We brought friends to this restaurant which is a fav of ours. They thoroughly enjoyed the breadth of menu offerings and energy of the restaurant. Wine & beer list had some interesting and different-than-the-usual selections. Food was excellent as always - the Painted Desert soup (yes, it actually looks like a painted desert) was great, my Herb-Roasted Free Range Chicken with cornbread stuffing was seasoned just right, and my husband's Outrageous Chimichanga was, indeed, outrageously good. We were glad we had a table indoors; while outdoor rooftop seating was available, there was a torrential downpour while we were eating....dodged that bullet!"

  • "Nice setting, attentive server and good food. The scallops and fish tacos were excellent. Will visit again!"

  • "It was kinda cute. Decent view of outdoors and not many patrons. Food was good - sorta like an Olive Garden but pricier. No complaints. Great rosemary lavash!"

  • "Santa Fe cafe is just a nice treat and change from the usual seafood beach restaurant. Nice decor and atmosphere. We always request outside seating, but in the summer opt for later in the evening. Food and drinks are good, with a reasonable selection and variety, including seafood. The ceviche is my favorite appetizer with shrimp and scallops, cilantro and lime that makes it so fresh and light."

  • "Food was very tasty. Best scallops I ever had. Being so near to water wish there were more fish choices . Enjoyed the restaurant however ."

  • "Santa Fe is tucked away in a what appears to be a business strip mall. I am glad we found it. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. We had a large group (11) and Santa Fe was able to make it work without a problem. Management slammed our server with several tables at once, but the server did a great job managing the situation. After dinner, we walked outside to listen to some music. The bar and tables outside are great for a date night. I would recommend Santa Fe to the visitors on Hilton Head Island."

  • "Great authentic New Mexico SW food. The cerviche is always fresh and great. The LUX margarita hit the spot. Try the outdoor upper deck for cool evenings. Service is well trained and friendly."

  • "The food is fantastic, but the upstairs patio and live music is the best part!"

  • "Ate at Santa Fe on Saturday night, June 21st and had a very good experience. Open Table reservation honored with immediate seating on the first floor. Service was very good and food was quite good. We enjoyed the Chimichanaga, Shrimp Fajitas and Burrito. The only "not-so-good" item is the NOISE. It is deafening...the server couldn't even hear us !!! Other than that...wonderful dinner !!"

  • "Santa Fe had an eclectic mix of Tex-Mex - A portabello mushroom was not what I expected to see but it was very well prepared and tasty."

  • "We have been coming to Santa Fe every summer for years. The food is flavorful and piping hot. The service is friendly and well-paced. We always enjoy our evening here."

  • "Very overpriced for very average mexican food. Pictures of reatraunt make it look upscale, but far from it. Lots of young people drinking heavily at outside dining. Food not much better than fast food mexican. Service slow, waited a long time to take order, did not check drinks, and waited a long time for chek."

  • "Ordered trio with cheese enchilada, which was small and mediocre. The pepper was burnt, not roasted and the "sweet corn tortilla" is not Southwestern but more of a dessert for a child's sweet taste. Gross! Lived in Southwest over 21 years and this is NOT Southwest food!!! Also, the prices are exorbitant for the quantity and quality of the food!! Never again!"

  • "Good service and great food. The good was flavorful and we tried many appetizers. Very enjoyable place for a nice dinner out. Not fine dining, but definitely not run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex restaurant."

  • "On our last night on HHI we dined at one of my favorite Restaurants, Santa Fe. If you like Southwest cooking flavors Santa Fe is a must. The Service is prompt but not pushy, the wait staff is knowledgeable and accommodating and the food, both quality and quantity, is exceptional. We split a quesadilla of brie, mushrooms and peach jam. Excellent ! I had Crab cakes with asparagus and wild rice with a red pepper sauce and my wife had parmesian crusted Grouper. Both dishes were excellent. The wine list is not extensive, but covers a decent range of red's whites and sparkling wine."

  • "This is our fourth experience for dinner at the Santa Fe Cafe. The guacamole is awesome. With the mesquite aroma floating in the air you must try your favorite from the grill. Steak, lamb and fresh fish all grilled to perfection! This is not the restaurant to visit if your looking for a burrito!"

  • "We never miss a chance to have the Grouper entrée at Santa Fe Café when we are visiting Hilton Head. This is my favorite fish dish of all time. The tastefully done Southwestern atmosphere is a nice change from all the seafood themed restaurants on the island and service is always spot on. We usually dine at Santa Fe a couple of times a year for the past 10+ years and we love it. It's always the first restaurant we go to when we get to the island. Great Margaritas too!"

  • "We dine at Santa Fe Cafe at least once a year. Staff are always very pleasant and we really enjoy the Southwestern atmosphere. The Painted Desert Soup is excellent but almost too attractive to disturb. The Grilled Pork Tenderloin with habanero sauce is cooked perfectly and is the tenderest port I have ever head. Always a great experience."

  • "Again and again, my favorite of many on island of Hilton Head. Arrived a few minutes early (Open Table res), and our requested table was open and waiting for us. Had our usual chips and salsa (our favorite salsa anywhere) and drinks. Relaxed and talked before ordering. Had my usual Cowboy Cut Rib Chop (bone-in Ribeye) and wife had grouper (a signature dish). Both were awesome. Previously wife had burrito, which she said was the best she's had anywhere. So many great options. Server very attentive, as all of them are, and they recognized us again as regulars, even though it's months since last visit (we're from out of town). Owner always stops by to say hello. Everyone around us had great time too. Perfect ambiance, awesome food. "

  • "Made reservations on opentable for a table on the rooftop only to be told when we arrived that opentable requests are not honored. If you wanted a special location you have to call them directly. We were seated upstairs in a dark corner and was told that was the only table available. Very rude. To top the evening off 2 of the 4 of us got ill from eating the rib eye meat. Very unhappy. We live full time on HHI and will certainly spread the word of the way we were treated. We have eaten there before without any issues but this is the second time we were disappointed in the behavior of the front employee."

  • "Santa Fe is one of our favorite restaurants on HHI. We were meeting another couple to celebrate anniversaries, their's on May 17, ours on May18. We made reservation through Open Table two weeks in advance. We added special request to have outdoor seating which is great at Santa Fe. Someone dropped the ball on this as Santa Fe said they did not receive this as part of the reservation. The restaurant said we should always call if we have a special request. If that is the case, and you have to call, why use Open? You need to figure out how to make that work."
