A word from Sant Ambroeus - West Village
Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room.
We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.

  • "Met with my aunt and two of her friends. It was cozy, the food was good, and the service was great."

  • "The food and service are top notch. Everything was excellent. The pasta dishes and the Branzino were superb. We know Italian food and this restaurant serves it extraordinarily well. Our waiter Jorge was fantastic. The ambiance is very nice too!!"

  • "It´s not vibrant but feels very local, peacefull and homy. We went there for brunch on a sunday and got there 10:00 am according to our reservation. Althou they were already open they told us that because neighborhood regulations they could not start service until 11:00 am. We were the only ones that had made a reservation and had to take a walk to come back later. Service was good as also the food, but what we liked the best was the Street view and looking how west village started to wake up before our eyes."

  • "good stuff: the restaurant was beautiful and service was great. mediocre stuff: the food was not impressive, thought the chocolate mousse might have redeemed the restaurant a little. maybe good for a business dinner or something but i don't think necessarily worth the $70 we paid for dinner and wine pairing as part of restaurant week."

  • "This was not the first time I dined at Sant Ambroeus West Village and not the last time. Fantastic service and food."

  • "Solid Restaurant Week experience. I ordered the melon salad, filet mignon, and gelato. Everything was good but not amazing. The drinks, however, were delicious. I enjoyed the limonata and three martinis (with basil and muddled strawberries). Those were the real standouts. Service overall was pretty good, though the waiter forgot to bring our desserts - I had to remind him. Seating is kind of tight, but doable. I was kind of annoyed by the solo unisex bathroom - there never seemed to be a line until I got up to go! And it's right by the kitchen so the busboys and waiters are always whizzing by in the narrow hall as you're standing in line for the loo. But overall, great place for a good meal. And we sat right next to a celebrity, too :)"

  • "Went here for restuarant week on a Monday night. Ambience was cozy and welcoming. Want too crowded or loud since on a Monday. Good was delicious- had the avocado and buffalo mozz salad and then veal bolognese for dinner. The bolognese was absolutely perfect- couldn't recommend more. Staff was helpful and attentive. For future reference, if you want a table outside they will easily give you one as long as you request through open table. Overall, great dining experience. Will be returning."

  • "I came here with my boyfriend for restaurant week. Actually, I had booked it on the wrong day and we showed up a week early, but they were very nice and accommodating. The food was pretty good, though nothing to go crazy over. His main course portion was much smaller than mine. Ambiance was nice, and overall we enjoyed a pleasant evening."

  • "We were lucky to come to New York for one of our business trips during Restaurant Week and we couldn't miss Santambrous, our favored Restaurant in the City. But we kept this experience as the last of our Restaurant Week Tour, just the night before flying back to Paris. One more time, it was the best of them all. The menu gave us a lot of options and everything was delicious, trofie with pesto sauce was really special. The staff was nice and accommodating, we were seated outdoor even if we hadn't request it, the service was very attentive and friendly. Too bad I don't remember the name of our European server, but he did an excellent job. Thank you again, Santambrous team!!"

  • "The blonde haired man (waiter,) acted as if he had somewhere better to be, he hardly came to the table even though he was not AT ALL busy, and when I called the manager over to order food & wine because the waiter had been ignoring me -- I was greeted with a very condescending attitude and not much concern for my awful experience. The restaurant is extremely expensive and not worth the $. I was very disappointed as I love the Southampton location."

  • "Such a cute west village gem. It was a nice first date spot. Not too loud. A lot of people watching. The service was great. Loved the waiter. Gave us privacy but helpful tips as well regarding ordering."

  • "I came for restaurant week and was very impressed. Not only did they have great options for every type of palette, they were delicious options. Everyone at the table ordered something different, and I tried a little of everything. The pastas were delicious. The salmon carpaccio was magnificent, very fresh. I definitely recommend the artichoke salad. It's to die for! I'd recommend this place for date night or for a low key evening. It fills you up and leaves you satisfied."

  • "S Ambroeus sits in a great location. The restaurant is small so reservations are a must. The menu is small so the diner must be flexible. The wait staff is small but friendly and attentive. All of these characteristics are fine except that the portions themselves are extremely small. Too bad the bill never is."

  • "This place is a Restaurant Week regular for us! It never disappoints and each dish is unique to this place. For example, I ordered gazpacho to start and a bowl of devine yellow liquid was presented! No it wasn't Mexican like....It was terrific, in a Mediterannean way. GO!"

  • "Delicious home made pasta and wonderful appetizers. It would have been a romantic dinner except that the noise level is pretty high. But for 2 couples out for a great meal, it was perfect. They even had a candle in the delicious chocolate mousse cake for my birthday. It couldn't have been nicer."

  • "RW lunch. Great choices.....including vitello tonnato...very hard to find on NYC menus..as an appetizer choice! Wine pairing,,one for each course..offered for an additional $15.00. I started with the vitello, then pasta with veal Bolognese, and the Sant Ambroeus pastry for dessert! Superb! Lovely atmosphere and attentive service! Perfect break in the workday!"

  • "We ended up in the area much earlier than our reservations so we were hoping to be able to eat at the bar. The maitre d' was so accommodating, even though this was our first time, we were treated as if we were neighborhood regulars. When our daughter showed up after our entrees but before our dessert; without even a blink, they made room for her and brought her a vegetarian restaurant week appetizer and entree. Everything we eat was fantastic; the lentil salad, grilled octopus, gnocchi, and chicken. This will definitely be our go-to restaurant when we are in the West Village."

  • "From the minute we walked in the staff of Sant Ambroeus made us feel welcome! Taking our coats and offering us drinks our waiter Dimitri was so friendly and attentive, even noticing small things like when one of us did not like our drink (which he replaced!) to bringing us a small plate of assorted cookies on the house at the end of the meal. The food was superb, with all the pasta cooked exactly right, nothing over cooked, the best of all our dishes was unanimously the fettuccine with clams. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends for everything from casual weekday dinners to special occasions!"
